Illumination - Dark Heresy

Walking past the bickering Carcer and Blake Garrus glances at neither instead he intently studies the surrounding terrain.
"Quiet Garrus, whats done is done, no need to moan about it. Our job ain't to talk its to make sure these 'fine gentlemen'" ensuring the heavy sarcasm is followed by a sneer Garvel continues his rant whilst still looking at none of his companions "aren't killed in the course of their...our duties."

Turning back to his companions Dakka narrows his eyes as he studies each one as if for the first time, with a significant pause when his eyes rest on Garrus the Mercenary continues his visual sweep of the three men.
"Why were they wearing rebreathers?" he suddenly asks them.
"Noticed young Blake looking at them and it got me thinking...no one wears a rebreather without a pretty damn good reason, they limit your field of view and the cheap ass lenses in 'em can throw off your aim."
With a shrug the older man turns back to staring curiously at the star port.

"If we're lucky, they'll assume those these two are the inquisitors and we're just baggage," Blake said, rubbing his eyes, "which suits me just fine. The rebreathers though..."

He took a breath, tasting the air again, eyes resting on the flying child ahead of them. The air didn't taste poisonous, and the intimidation factor was a viable enough excuse, but something was suddenly nagging at him. Zoning out the other three for a moment, he tried to picture the two guards as they had been, flanking the official.

"They never said anything," Blake remarked, "didn't even cover us with the shotguns. Just stood there, watching."

That could have meant a lot of things, but they seemed to at ease to be well disciplined, either that or they didn't consider the four of them much of a threat.

"The only reason I can think of is to hide their faces, but why they'd do that..."

Carcer keeps the outward appearance of cool and smug but is boiling over inside with hatred for all his companions.

"Listen up, boys. I know just as much as you do, we all got the same briefing. We share the same mission, the same objective. We're a team. We aren't four people. We are a inquisitorial retinue. Our job is the same, damn it. Don't alienate me or the priest, Garrus." Carcer states, going nice and slow. "Though we do have roles...You two are muscle and muscle don't think. That would be the Priest and my own role. Be silent and be intimidating."

The party moves quickly leaves the port area of the establishment and come into the main streets of the city. Here you are quickly surrounded by a mass of workers and locals. All of different types and sizes. Some are obviously residents of the town, they wear more standard Imperial Clothing and converse in a understandable level of Low Gothic. Some of them however do not hide their barbaric roots to well. Their hair is unkept and long, they sport brightly painted faces and the like.

It is hard to make any progress through the crowd, and the servitor is constantly rushing ahead, only to stop and wait for you when it realizes that the group have fallen behind.

Calaestius falls back slightly in order to talk to the rest of the group. "Shall we make this quicker? The people will move aside if they realise I am a priest..."
At least, I hope they will.
"Of course, Carcer may drown our reputation slightly." He remarks.

OOC: Some sort of test here MoW? I don't know which, I haven't got my rulebook near me. Oh and, sorry for it being a short post.

After the quiet bustle of the spaceport, the city proper came as something of a shock. Still, Blake hid his disgust at the milling mass of people with ease. Quite apart from the smell, Blake was accutely aware of vulnerable they'd be if anyone attacked them here. Anyone could be hiding in ths crowd. Anyone. If there was ever a time to convince Carcer to keep his mouth shut now was it. He listened to the priest's suggestion quietly and shook his head.

"No," he said flatly, "we've started this charade, we may as well keep it up. Stay behnd me and look important. If anyone asks, you're here to consecrate the cathedral, no more, no less. Garvel, fall back behind these two and keep an eye out for anyone following us, I'll see about opening a path."

Resting one hand lightly on the butt of his laspistol, he suited action to words and began clearing a path with his elbows. The going was only marginally faster than it had been before, but it afforded him a better chance to observe the crowd and the buildings ahead. That and keep a firm grip on his guns. For all that, he found the number of 'uncivilised' faces almost nostalgic, and incongruously out of place with the square, rust red buildings that filled the streets to either side. However common they may have been elsewhere, they struck him as out of place, and he had to fight occassionally to keep his mind on the task at hand.

above is a perception test, if I read it right, I rolled ten so I passed (with two degrees of success!), if there's anything worth noticing, like someone suspicious, a decent bar, or even an attractive woman, let me know.

You continue to make your way through the crowd, doing your best to keep up with the floating servitor. As you do so, Blake's eyes scan about the place, looking for anything out of the ordinary. He doesn't notice much, the road you are travelling on appears to be one of the main roads of the Space Port. A few taverns, some pretty girls, etc, nothing to strange.

The servitor takes you down an alleyway. As you do so, a half-naked, badly sunburned man, his hair dirty and unkempt, dirt all over it, and bue and white flame tattoos across his face.

The man approaches you, grabbing Carcer by the arm and shouting incoherently at him.

Garvel, as well as Carcer manage to make out, "He's here, he's here again, the Crow Father acome to drown us in lies!" However, neither the priest nor Blake can understand a word the man says.

Carcer nods empathetically at the man. "Its ok, Sir. What has he planned this time? We've come, the crow father is doomed to fail." Hoping to get some sort of response out of the obvious lunatic. He might just have something if Carcer can sort through the jibberish. Beggars always see things because no one pays them any heed.

OOC: Tried a roll but the man is too crazy. WOuld of worked on normal people.

"You cannot stop him! His hill shall run with blood!" The lunatic replies.

Turning to the priest he says, "False, false, the two faces he has! First of three has two!"

Garvel lunges forwards to make a grab for the lunatic/beggar, before the man's survival instinct can rear it's head the Mercenary is grappling him to the dusty ally way floor.

Carcer sighs, turns around and takes a few steps away from the wrestling men. He was hoping to get some information out of the beggar but it seems he is too far gone. "Snap his neck." The red haired youth commands simply. No use in letting this stall the group any further. Carcer looks around to his companions and then looks for the bloated servitor. "Lets catch up to that thing..."

As Garvel smashes the man to the ground, a group of local thugs, about 8 strong notice, they roar in anger yelling, "Begone off-worlder! We don't need your kind!"

The men rush at you, clubs in their hands and guns at their belts.

Thugs - 8 + 2 = 10
Garvel: 9+3 = 11
Carcer 5+4 = 9
Calaestius: 10+3 =13
Blake: 4+3 = 7

Okay... post up what your actions are you don't have to be specific mind you, just tell me what weapons you are using, and if you are using a gun, how fast you are firing. You'll attack in initiative order so it will be Killer, Garvel, the thugs (all eight...) Carcer and then Blake. This order will continue until combat ends.

Carcer sighs once more. "Come on boys, we don't gotta fight!" Carcer uses his best knowledge of gangs and people in general to try and calm them...but they seem far to worked up by now.

But despite his words the red head discreetly slips on his brass knuckles, draws his pump-action, and pumps the shotgun. He stands maybe a pace behind Gravel and as soon as the Mercenary opens fire he does too...And hopefully hits something....Carcer isn't much when it comes to open battle, he tries to avoid it!

Garvel glances first at himself then at Carcer as he discreetly loosens his Lasgun's strap.

Swinging his Lasgun into position and flicking the safety off the Mercenary fires a bolt from the hip at the nearest thug- with his Drill Sergeant's 'advice' ringing in his head "If in doubt, shoot"...

Calaestius raises his weapons and begins to attack in an absolute fury. "May God-Emperor save us all if Carcer ever does anything remotely intelligent!" He shouts, before rushing back into the combat, taking a mad swing at one of the nearest thugs with his hammer..

"Let him go!"

The man was touched in the head, and the spirits protected such people. It would be bad luck on the group to interfere with him. Of course it was pointless trying to tell these people that. Garvel had barrelled into the man before Blake could take half a step and Carcer was already calling for blood. Throne, were they trying to get them all killed?!

"What are you...?!"

"Begone off-worlder! We don't need your kind!"

Oh for the love of...

A group of eight armed thugs were closing in on them, all of them with Painted faces. Thankfully they hadn't drawn their guns yet but that could all change in a second if... The thought froze as the sharp crack of ionised air swept through the alleyway. He hadn't fired, and Carcer and the Priest didn't have lasguns....

Tell me he didn't...

But he had. Garvel had his lasgun out, firing from the hip into the thugs, and Carcer had his shotgun out a step behind. Wonderful. Just fething wonderful. IF there was a surer way to draw every thug and guard imaginable tumbling at them this was it. Did none of them have so much as a lick of sense? He was forced to admit that at least the priest seemed to have a head on his shoulders, using his hammer. Of course the man immediately ruined the moment by charging forwards and doing his best to get in the way of Carcer's and Garvel's shots. Just. Bloody. Perfect. Cursing fluidly in the tongue of his tribe, he glanced around him, taking stock of the situation. Someone had to take control.

"Garvel, Carcer," he called out clearly, drawing his sword. "fall back to those steps and use the high ground to your advantage. Angelus! Fall back next to me."

If they had even a modicum of sense (which he doubted) they'd comply, and draw the thugs in. If not he'd have words with them later. Snarling, he feinted left, took aim, and slashed at the first thug to reach him.

While Blake yelled at his companions the battle began for real. The fastest on the shot was Garvel, who's accuracy was suprising indeed, given the time he had to aim. It would appear that the Emperor had shown him favor? The thug's head explodes in a furious display of light, showering gore everywhere. . (Righteous Fury! Total wounds:23)(Critical Hit)

The second man to attack is the priest. Though filled with the might of the Emperor, Calaestius hammer blow is blocked by a club. In reply, the thug attacks back at Calaestius. Calaestius attempts to dodge the blow, but fails, the blow lands at his head.(-4 Wounds)

Three of the thugs close enough to do so Blake with their clubs. Blake smiles as he shoves off their feeble attempts in a flury of blows.

Four of the thugs who hung back aim their pistols and fire at Garvel and Carcer, all fail to score a hit, however .

The final two to act are Carcer and Blake. Carcer with a grim look on his face and a curse on his lips, raises his shotgun to return to fire at the thugs who tried to hit him, like them though, he misses.

Blake, caught up in a melee with four of the thugs, attacks one of them with his sword, but he fails to do any significant damage.

With only one dead, the battle is far from over.

OOC: If you have any problems with how I've handled the rolls, please tell me... it wasn't easy linking them all into the post though!

Nodding to Garrus, though he doubts the young Guardsmen can see him face to face as he with the thugs, Garvel takes a couple of steps backwards towards the steps. One foot on the bottom step he brings his Lasgun to his shoulder and braces, with his finger seemingly performing a rapid staccato on the trigger, bolts are erupting from the Lasgun as fast as the mechanisms inside can produce them.

"When in doubt..." he growls over the whine of each shot leaving the barrel.


OOC: Semi-auto (Full Action) +10BS, additional hit for every 2 degrees of success (currently on 59 shots left out 60 in that charge pack)

Carcer growls in frustration, drawling his rather odd sickle-sword. The red head charges the thugs that Blake is embattled with from behind, striking out with blade to try and relieve Blake of some pressure and hopefully allow the trained soldier to kill something.



OOC: I was bored so I dug up an interesting sword and gave it to Carcer...He is a pic:

Calaestius kneels with the pain from his head, before growling and thrusting upwards with his hammer towards the thug's face. Hoping it will rally the men beside him, he shouts "In the name of the Emperor, KILL THEM!"

OOC: Would this be a roll for just me to see if it's successful, or for everyone to see how they take it? Don't worry, i'll have the rulebook back soon! :P

Alright, they were holding their ground, that was something. Blake whirled, parrying the thugs attacks with ease. Their skill was not inconsiderate, but then neither was anyone elses. Snatching a quick glance around, he noted with no small satisfaction that at least one of the thugs wouldn't be getting up again. Hearing footsteps behind him, he feinted right, hoping to get out of Carcer's way.

"In the name of the Emperor, KILL THEM!!"

What was...?

Snatching another glance, he grimaced. Angelus was staggered, a trickle of blood wunning down the side of his head from where a club had hit it. Fortunately for him (and unfortunately for Blake), the thug seemed to have run past Angelus in order to confront him with the other two. Mildly disconcerting, but he shook it off quickly. Knowing it could make all the difference, he took the split second to aim before lashing out at the nearest assailant.

So there were eight thugs, four of whom are hanging back, one of whom is dead and the other three of whom are fighting me? Just to summarise and avoid confusion.

Actions used:
Feint (half action) - opponent must take WS test or may not dodge or parry attack next turn
Standard attack.

And so the battle continued. Angelus, filled with holy fury charged at the thugs surrounding Blake, however, at the last moment a thug turns around at blocks his blow.

Garvel, still providing support from behind the party, aims his gun and fires at the thugs that stayed behind, at the last moment, the thug ducks behind cover, causing him to miss.

Returning fire, the thugs hit both Carcer, and Garvel.

The in the melee, there is less action, . Blake is hit across the chest, blood flowing freely. His return blow also sheds blood. (OOC: 6 Wounds). However, the thug is still standing.

Carcer, as he charges into the melee, fails to do significant damage.

It would appear that the battle still had much to it, neither side willing to give up. But at that very moment, a siren blares and twelve men, covered in black carapace and armed with shotgun, run into the alleyway shouting, “IN THE NAME OF THE EMPEROR CEASE YOUR FIGHTING! YOU HAVE 10 SECONDS!”

OOC: Garvel, Blake, and Carcer all lost 5 wounds.

Holding a hand tightly to his wound Garvel flicks the safety on his Lasgun, letting it go to swing on the strap he pulls a Laspistol from its holster quickly, yet keeps it pointed towards the ground making sure its ready to fire if the thugs continue to fight.

"It's over" he shouts at the knot of men in the alleyway entrance.
Before he can take more than a couple of steps he collapses against the alley way wall and slides down till he sitting with his pistol still firmly clenched in his hands.
