The only equal characters in a story are NPCs. the rest are main characters, and main characters stand out. They are the ones who see and hear, the ones through whose eyes we see the story and the world. They are not just useless NPCs you control, they think, they feel, they are, by definition exceptional, because otherwise they would not be interesting.

Another good point, but I think he meant that each main character is exceptional at one thing and one thing only, but are equal to each other in that they all have flaws, hence the Eldar being good at their chosen path, the humans being all rounders, and my Tau having a necron right forearm.

It's only a concern because the Space Marine has a lot less weaknesses than the other main characters.

depends how you play it really. Personally I'm just tired of playing normal people and want to play someone of that calibre who is only in it to get where he needs to go and be done with it. I don't like the idea that Space Marines can't have personality or haven't the wherewithal to duck long enough to get the job done instead of leaping on top of every mortar shell that comes their way...

I suppose you have good reasoning, it would be interesting to see a Space Marine working with other races as it clearly wouldn't happen in normal fiction, unless of course they'd abandoned the Emperor but hadn't succumb to Chaos

Ides I understand where your coming from but if your sick of playing 'normal' people then this RP really isn't for you, no one is saying that Space Marines dont have distinct personalities and flaws. The problem is that as a character he would physically overwhelm all the other characters making the rest of us in the end simply his lackies- which just isn't fair on any one else.

If we do a SM oriented RP (something for which I have a number of ideas squirreled away) then he'd be fine because he'd be surrounded by companions of similar physical potential but otherwise I'd suggest a rethink on using an Astartes in a Xenos trader/corsair ship.

And that's my problem with people. They don't think marines can put aside their hubris long enough to get the job done. Fair enough, I'm in enough RPs as it is, but one question though, and this is for any other characters on this ship.

What do you do? Because let's face it, Eldar captains don't let people onto their rare and expensive ships for the heck of it.

You both have good point about this, from my perspective and from what I;ve been told, it just seems virtually impossible that a Space Marine would get involved and if they did there would be no competition.

But I can also imagine a powered down Space Marine joining the crew, almost as if he was near death or something and then aided by the Sunfury crew on the path to his objective

Why would the captain take him in? He's not operating a hospital. It isn't a ferry service. He's in this for himself and his crew, and if you do not have a use you will not be taken in. End of story.

As for the character I had in mind, he wanted to get back to his chapter, and whether anyone else understood or believed it, that objective was more important than the imperium's inherent xenophobia or his own personal distaste.

You don't have to like everyone else's character's to rp with them, hell its more interesting if you don't like them and play it as such, you just have to deal with them. I've read enough rp posts of he walked over to the bench, tapped his bolter and sat down.

Alright alright calm down. I was on your side pretty much, and to be honest I don't know much at all about Games Workshop, i'm only going by what i've been taught by my brother and by what i've found out independently so don't take it out on me.

As far as i'm concerned, go for it have a Space Marine in the crew, but don't say no warned you when this character ends up taking the entire focus of the RP.

I'm not getting onto you. I don't know that much either, but I'm asking everyone here to think a little more about why their character is on the ship. The how and where of it all can be revealled as the story prgoresses but if no-one knows where they are going they won't go very far.

sry Ides, but im gonna take back what i said before and say no marines. theyre right, a marine, even without armour, is too overpowered.
beyond that, even the wargear you gave him is rediculous. heavy bolter/flamer AND power sword, + a multitude of grenades. im just gonna say no to marines, renegade or no.

Out of curiosity, when is this thing going to start up, because so far we've got 2 Eldar, 3 Humans, a Tau, a potential Kroot (if Brain ever makes it), and something else depending on whether Erus makes one and what he makes. Obviously minus Ides Space Marine as of yesterday.

How many characters is the limit aswell?

Hoy. Not familiar with eldar tech so please god correct me with names and so forth... lets go with this for now.

Name: Vaetor Dusyl

profession: former striking scorpion, Mercenary/ranger
gear: bolt pistol, scorpion chainsword, combat knife. Cameoline greatcoat, carapace armour, salvaged firewarrior helmet.
Favourite phrases: Crude but effective. Fire at Will.

Appearance: Shoulder length, obsidian hair, cold, emerald eyes, bronzed skin, and a gaunt, angular face.

Personality: Sadistic and laconic to the point of being downright morbid, Vaetor is an unsettling figure with a fetish for all things mon keigh. He's worked the planets of the Fringe for many years, usually sticking to imperial territory, scraping a living hunting orks and other vermin, though the occassional well paying job does show up. He signed on with the Sunfury as an enforcer, partly out of boredom and partly from incurring the wrath of a large number of individuals.

Profession/faction: Former fire dragon, now turned medic with slight skills at machine repair as well. (Think of a sorta.. junior bonesinger.. sorta..)..

Weapons: (HIGHLY up for switching, I am new to Eldar in RP)Dragons Breath Flamer(I can go with fusion gun, if more applicable), Salvaged Karskin (helmet, rull suit)set of carapace armor painted and detailed to resemble his old aspects colors, a lone and exotic looking melta bomb, a mis-matched medics kit from the Imperial guard, containing tau pheremone treatments, odd looking eldar devices, and even a bizzare looking ork shaman totem (consider him to have the effectiveness of an IG veteran medic),

Backround: Ilyedan was originally from the Ulthwe Craftworld, and a proud member of the Fire Dragon Aspect Shrine. He was always hot headed, for an Eldar, and often reprimanded for his lack of the Eldar people stoic calm. He was gifted the use of a Dragons Breath Flamer, for his nature in battle assured he often ran ahead of even the exarch, screaming his fury, and the fiery breath of the weapon suited him.

However, after a long time spent, Ilyedan was sent to the Aspect Temple, when the Exarch died, to see if he could pass the tests their and be deemed worthy to lead his Aspect. What transpired there is not known, all that Ilyedan has said is that he left the craftworld with a ranger expedition force and struck for the most obscure, backwater worlds. From there, h obtained odd jobs working with Kroot, Human, and the rogues of the galaxy. His knowledge in the destruction of ships and armor was useful, but it soon proved that his hands were also adept at healing, and as he traveled he accumulated his odd med pack, and several small trinkets useful for helping to mend ships rather than destroy.

It was on a return foray from a world outside of known space that he met with the Captain of the Sunfury, quite by accident he thought, and was asked aboard. The rest, well, that's still in the works.

Just because the captain asks you to join, doesn't mean your character wouldn't see it as just one more job... But the beauty of RPs is that we can elaborate on character relations as the story progresses...

I will probably be out of action for about a week. Dan296, as you are the GM, you may use my character as you see fit to progress the story, etc. Otherwise he'll inquire about things and talk to other passengers, but not get in the way/start anything.
