Default 1900pts. Space Marines Vs. Orks

Mission Type: Secure And Control
Special Rules: Infiltrate, Deep Strike
Game Length: Voting will go on for 3 weeks, ending the 12th of August

Battlefield Details: 6'x4'- Plains grassland with Ten 6”x6” areas of woodland and various small areas of shrub and light foliage.
In the centre of the field there is a Ruined Settlement of Five buildings roughly 4”x8” as well as adjoining wall sections.
The Buildings are arranged around a courtyard 8”x8” with a statue in the centre which marks the field centre point.

also shows why orks need an update bad...that devs will cut them down and the whirlwind will hurt...a lot

Maybe people show not know who they fight in advance...but both players had this advantage

Just one question though, why 1900 points? why not 2000?

Truth be told I'd expected alot more Armour from my Orkish opponent otherwise I'd have plumped for at least an extra Attack Bike and/or replaced most of the missile launchers with heavy bolters.

Still with 6 missile launchers, 4 enemy vehicles, and no armour over 11 I'll be getting alot of use out of the frag missiles.

Basic deployment: Despite the fact that my Devs have shorter ranged heavy weapons than my tactical and scouts I wont be deploying them ahead of my troops- they're there to mow down mobs that begin getting too close in numbers to any particular section of my firebase.

The scouts will get deployed depending on where I see any glaring weakness' once the orks are on the battlefield (whether they're my weakness' or calvor's I dont know) with the Attack Bikes running interference once those evil warbikes and stormboyz are seen to- dont want anything fast enough to catch them hanging around once they start there annoying flank attacks

Didn't really want traits as such but with each Marine being relatively wargear free i thought I'd better give them some sort of advantage, hitting on a 3+ seemed a good idea for any greenskins that hit my lines- especially for the assault squad (only got 1 squad so i want as many attacks as possible to hit home).

EDIT: Realised this is a Secure and Control mission not the standard Seek and Destroy (Kill 'em all) but I think a cautious leapfrogging approach by my Tactical Squads in the opening turn or 2 will still leave me with enough firepower to ensure that not too many orks dare venture near my deployment zone in search of the loot whilst also positioning the backbone of my firebase in a more central position where there close range bolter fire will come into effect much sooner (72 bolter shots that ignore most ork armour- ouch!)

Well my tactics is for my warboss, storm boys and warbikes to rush the up to the marines and get into CC while the rest foot slogs it up and have the tank bustas and kans take out any heavy stuff.

Whoever has the most scoring units near the Statue in the courtyard wins.

No Victory Points are earned for killing eachother in this game.

way to many horde killers in their hands. the only thing i would worry about is the warbikes and warboss squads, but the assault squads can come to the aid quite quickly.
2 many heavy bolters and missle launchers to cope with, not to mention the whirlwind

id have to say ORKY BOYZ ive faced 3 ork players and whether its the power of the Waaagh or the hatred of a god i have never succeeded in beating them. When the orks get into close combat they will beat that armour save. despite the fact that its a secure and control mission all calvor has to do is get his enemy squads below 50% mean while Baron is gonna have to pump alot of ammo into one squad to get it down.


Altogetha now Here We GO Here We GO! WAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHhhhhhhhhhh

i'm going with orks for this one. larger units keep their scoring status for a lot longer and the orks can always mob up when they start taking casualties. and as there seems to be a fair bit of cover on the board the marines might have some trouble drawing a bead on the greenskins.

im also gonna say ORKS if thye can get across the field fast enough and get into cc on the marines side. the marines will have a hard time overtaking the mobs once the start mobbing up specaly if they can keep the fight close.

score currently orks-3, marines-4


but they cant get across fast enough because 1-theres no wartrucks rokkiting across
2-all of the fast moving targets (warbikes, the single wartruck) are obviously priority targets
3-the foot sloggers take 4-5 turns each getting into close combat. during that time you are being shot at the entire time. bolters arent in range you say? ok, theres a whirlwind (half of a mob each turn right there, and with that many boyz its not going to miss) 10 heavy bolters (30 shots) 6 missle launchers (3-4 boys in the blast.)
sure they can mob up but theres simply too much firepower!!

and if this was a real game, that warboss would NEVER get into close combat. high priority target. when the boyz get into combat, youre against 8-10 marines with higher weapon skill, strength, toughness, and amour (sure 4+ cause of choppas but even so, compared to 6+?)
and then assault marines coming in for support...no chance.
