| Confused and Enraged ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | After surviving an ambush by Ork ships in deep space and three weeks in a survival pod with his fragrent in all the wrong ways aide Jurgen, Commissar Ciaphas Cain crash lands deep behind enemy lines on the beleaguered world Perlia. He must overcome Ork assaults, limited supplies and Jurgens distinctive aroma in order to lead what survivors he can find to the safety of Imperial lines...and keep as many bodies between him and the enemy as possible. I love the Cain series. Easily the funniest books I've read in years. I'd like to see a more detailed account of the time he charged a Khornite Daemon with only a rusty bayonet and a bottle of holy water. Or how he found out that Techpriest Felicia's mechandrites are situated at the base of her spine. (A foot note says the subject could have come up in friendly conversation, or not) ![]() Last edited by Stubber; 07-01-2008 at 04:13 PM. |

Blog Entries: 2 | Well, Commissar Cain is tied with the Space Wolves for my favorite series, cause both are hilarious. Sandy Mitchell does a great job. The 'charging a daemonhost with a rusty bayonet and a vial of holy water' bit may be the next book, in which Cain must survive.... *drumroll* The 13th Black Crusade *gasp* Anyway, it's either then, or during a short story in which he encounters the Slaaneshi sorceress for the first time, and there's a daemonhost. I forget if he charges it, and if the quotes specifically says Khornate, but it's one of those two. Oh, and the uhm... comment... concerning the mechadendrite might have something to do with... 'fraternizing with citizenry.' ![]()

He fights the 'Nids. The position the administratum has taken with Cain is brilliantly funny. Because he's been presumed dead so often and it takes so much effort to have someone declared alive again they just gave an order stating that no matter what proof exists to the contrary Cain is always assumed to be alive. Resulting in him eventually being the only man in the Imperium to still be on active duty long after being buried with full military honours. ![]() | |

Blog Entries: 4 | So the Space Wolf series is comic too? Never saw that one coming.

Blog Entries: 2 | It's not necessarily meant to be 'comic,' but Space Wolves... there's just something about them. it doesn't help that they're freaking Nordic and are the only 'fun' Marines in a future of Grim Darkness. That, and when the Rune Priest in Wolf's Honour talks about how Russ punched the Emperor, who punched him back, hard enough to put Russ into a coma for a month.

Looks like a good book might have to pick it up. I think the whole fought a demon with a rusty bayonet and a bottle of holy water sounds hilarious.

Blog Entries: 2 | As I have said, it is likely explained in Cain's Last Stand. Hopefully, that won't be the last book, given Sandy Mitchell's production of stories at seemingly random points throughout Cain's timeline. I would look forward to another 597th book, and, given Cain's lack of a certain blank in his Perlia retirement, he'll have a few hells, no pun intended, of a time fighting daemons.

I know just a snippet of his character is enough to get me hooked.
