The new Horus Heresy book, Legion, on the Alpha Legion, is by far my personal favorite. they are, after all, my favorite legion and it was awesome to finally know why they turned.

I'll try not to give too much away JIK you guys havent read it yet. The book doesnt follow the marines like the other ones did. this is from the perspective of several Imperial Army officers in the expedition that the Alpha Legion is following.

The basic premice is that the army is trying to subdue a world, but they cant because of its powerful chaos magic. they call for help from the alpha legion, who is already operating in secret on the world, unbeknown to all, and they pop out and start the offensive anew. however, there is a spy in the imperiums midst, who works for The Cabal, an anti-chaos group who needs to talk to Alpharius about something extremely important, namely: The Heresy....

Now Dan Abnett is definately the person for the Alpha Legion. I got it on saturday and couldnt put it down until last night. they have always been my favorite legion, and in light of this book i am planning on converting my chapter into Alpha Legionaries

I love the book. Im about 3/4 way through it, really cool style they did with it this time around. I gotta say though my favorite book so far is Fulgrim. I dont think I ever wanted to be a noise marine so bad. Definately making conversions for it, especially (I forget his name) the VERY first Noise Marine.

Flugirm is a rollercoaster of a read. well, it dosent just suddenly speed up in terms of pace, but it keeps the suspense there, and keeps jolting you with idea, all of which are proved false at the end.

to put it simply, fulgrim, plenty of surprises, plent of twists, and abnett delivers once again.
anyone who is an abnett fan or is merrly a casual SM fan should pick this book up, its a really good read.

Just finished legion this morning.
It's easiliy one of my favorites, I've never seen so many plot twists in a story.

Highlight for spoiler: Did Alpharius having a twin take anyone else completely by suprise?

Legion is fugging brilliant, i would say it was AWESOMESAUCE but AWESOMESAUCE is wayy to awesome.

That aside i liked how we were following the Imperial Army instead of a Legion as it makes a nice difference, the ending is a twist i didnt expect at all. Im waiting on the next one as i have finished it.

The first Noise Marine was Marius Vaerosian crimslain. He went slaaneshi slaphappy during the mariviglia. And I can't wait to read legion either, but I just started Descent Of Angels. Fulgrim is my fav so far (naturally, since I a loyal Slaaneshi) with Galaxy In Flames running a close 2nd. I loved Tarik Torgaddon!!

Legion was my favorite book, maybe because I tend to prefer stealth, and deception, in tactics, so the Alpha Legion is my natural favorite CSMs.

Highlight For Spoiler: It struck me as kind of odd that two loyal primarchs would turn against the emperor just because a bunch of aliens told them it would be a good idea.

One can never trust those eldar. It was also suprising that they're was already an Autarch despite the fact that the fall only occoured a relativey short time before hand and the Aspect shrines weren't set up for some time after the fall.

...... The fall happened a looooooong time before that, man.

It's what spawned Slaanesh. And it really did happen a ridiculous amount of time before. Some small proof of this is the fact that, in the book Fulgrim (as loath as I am to risk another deviation from the main topic) Ulthran of Ulthwe already had his own Craftworld for a rather long amount of time.

The birth of Slannesh blew out the warp storms surrounding terra just before the Emperor compleated the unification wars. Then he started the great crusade which lasted for about 300 years before the heresy started.

EDIT: Seers such as Ulthran were already well respected as it was because of them that them craftworlds were created. The building of the craftworlds happened before the fall too.

I actually kind of like the Horus Heresy books. Sure, ertain deaths have pissed me off, and I disliked how Horus's conversion was a two-page "Come to the Dark Side! We have cookies!" I greatly prefer Lastie's version, if you want to find, it, it's the =]L[= link at the bottom of my sig.

And all the fluff they are messing up...

Spoiler Alert (sorry Stubber, had to steal it ) Well, for one thing, Torgaddon being Chaotic, then normal, then dead, then supposedly Chaotic is pissing me off. Ferrus Manus's death angered me, what with Iron Hands giving me the impression he might still be alive. No, not only did they kill him, they ate his frickin soul. Fulgrim's now a daemon? wth?

What else.... Ah, yes... the lack of explanation for why Mortarion would turn, the switching between the Emperor and Horus ordering the Burning of Prospero, the fact that everyone but Loken is completely blind and deaf, the idea that not even Horus questioned who might have stolen the anathame, and why he is not at all angry concerning Erebus giving the anathame to the Nurglitch Unclean One, and how every single kinebrach, and the interex as a whole, despite knowing Chaos's full potential and powers, doesn't seem to notice that the anathames seem to be Chaotic in nature.

Not to mention the fact that only a mortal, and Karkasy of all people, realizes just how unlikely it is for the Nurglitch general to betray, given how even sees Horus.

My view on Legion is very dual-sided. Plot twists threw me off balance quite a bit, because some things were very new, unheard of, radical, and I didn't know how to react to it. I still loved the book though.

@Stubber's spoiler thing: Oh yeah, surprise indeed. Do we pass these new facts off as canon now or what?
