There is no official fluff on the matter, but most fan-fluff and such seems to point to such, and it does make sense.

Yeah, lots of evidence seems to point in that direction, but nothing is official (as of yet). It is thought the Eldar took a phermone controller-thing (I don't know the exact name) from an alien races Swarm Queen. This gave the Etherals complete command over the other Tau.

Or so the theory goes...

many fan fiction sources (including one that HAS to have been well researched, Rise Of The Tau) and it would make alot of sense if the eldar made the ethreals. they saw a race of nubs (no presence in the warp) and saw potential in them to defeat chaos forever. thus, tau.

I think non pshychic people are called blunts.

I also like the idea of Eldar creating the tau. In the ancient times, the Old Ones created the Eldar as a race to carry on their work. Now the Eldar wish to do the same with the tau. The Eldar have provided to the tau, what any other civilisation needs; Purpose. A nucleus on which to focus their efforts.

That is why the Tau are so successful. That's until the stuff calms down around the Eye of terror. Then the Imperiums is going to go Fishing

its said that shortly before the first etherals were sighted a warp storm was hanging over T'au. Also bright lights were seen in the sky as well as mysterious tall figures were seen in the mountains. Shortly there after 2 etherals walked into enemy camps and had them sign a peace treaty and join the greater good. this soon happened all over T'au

Why not take a look at the Tau thread in the librarium. It should do a little explaining.

It had better. I spent ages on it.

A chunk of it's based on the Wiki article. Hence the link at the bottom of the article.
All the history from the Damocles gulf to the Wars of the third Sphere wasn't on Wiki in any detail so I had to go 'dex diving.

Sorry, but the original rumour came from the book Xenology
Really a fantastic read. Go get it!

As far as I can tell this is a completely reliable and fully endorsed Fluff source.

[Spoiler. Highlight if you want to know the rumour]
The Alien, insectiod race is called the Q'Orl, which communicated through diamond shaped Pheromone emitters. The Ethereals have this EXACT organ in their... erm... facial orifice, which upon dissection, looks like it didn't evolve there. The two races are from opposite ends of the galaxy. Not only this but the Q'Orl have a written 'language' that tells of how the 'Dar stole one of their queens

You do the math.

[/Spoiler]
