Default Hive Fleet Chimera

I created this list mostly because I was bored, and partly to see if I could. I was surprised to find myself actually struggling to make up 1,500pts, despite the presence of eight monstrous creatures, so I began throwing biomorphs and psychic powers onto the list. I haven't played 'nids before (can you tell?), and I don't have any plans to in the near future, so I doubt it'll ever see the light of day, but I thought I'd put it up anyway.

HQ:

Hive Tyrant: 141pts
Adrenal glands (ws,i), extended carapace, toxic miasma, 2x scything talons

Enhanced senses, 2x devourers

Troops:

Ripper Swarm: 110pts

Ravener Brood: 120pts
3x Raveners; scything talons, rending claws, devourers

Heavy Support:

Enhanced senses, mace tail, symbiote rippers, barbed strangler, venom cannon

HQ:

Hive Tyrant: 141pts
Adrenal glands (ws,i), extended carapace, toxic miasma, 2x scything talons
Okay, this guy doesn't need extended carapace. Since he has not ranged weapons, I would replace extended carapace with Warp Blast
Hive Tyrant: 141ptspts
Adrenal glands (ws,i), extended carapace, toxic miasma, 2x scything talons
Same as above

Elites:

Carnifex: 111pts
Adrenal glands (ws, i), 2x scything talons
Slow, but cheap. Expect this guy to get smashed by all sorts of high S and AP2 or 3 weapons.
Carnifex: 111pts
Adrenal glands (ws, i), 2x scything talons
Same as above
Carnifex: 113pts
Enhanced senses, 2x devourers
I like this guy a lot, in fact, he's my favorite Carnifex
Troops:

Ripper Swarm: 110pts
10 bases, leaping

Ripper Swarm: 110pts
10 Bases, leaping
I haven't used rippers before, but, I can see them being useful, 30 wounds in one squad... evil!
Fast Attack

Ravener Brood: 120pts
3x Raveners; scything talons, rending claws, devourers
You could drop the devourers to save points, as these guys are going to get shot to pieces really fast
Ravener Brood: 120pts
3x Raveners; scything talons, rending claws, devourers
Same as above
Heavy Support:

Carnifex: 113pts
Enhanced senses, 2x devourers
Same as your elite 'fex
Carnifex: 155pts
Enhanced senses, mace tail, symbiote rippers, barbed strangler, venom cannon
Not sure what the point of mace tail and symbiote rippers.... IHMO you want either CC or ranged on most 'nid units (the only one I can think of thats an exception to this rule is the Hive Tyrant).
Carnifex: 155pts
Enhanced senses, mace tail, symbiote rippers, barbed strangler, venom cannon
Same as above

Okay, while I'd never play a nidzilla (all MCs) list, I can see how one would be useful.

A mass of gaunts (both normal and hormagaunts), a few 'stealers (usually led by a broodlord, who rules in CC) and then lots of warriors, a 'fex or two, and 3 zoanthropes. Oh, and a Hive Tyrant, is I think the best way to use the 'nids as an army... its only the most fluffy.

Aww, Master, don't crtisize! :P
I think the list is alright, though i think a few Stealers or Gaunts would have fit in nicely.

contructive critisism is a good thing!
and on that note....

DAAAMMM
thats a nasty list right there. those rippers are going to get into close combat very quickly and tear it up
8 montrous creatures in a 1500 point list?
if youre going to actually get this army, its going to be sick!!
i would change one of the CC elite fexes to be the same as the devourer fex. those are much better, and will do more. CC fexes are meat sheilds, pretty much.
for the two tanged fexes, you should give them two of the same weapon. twin linked is much better and specializes the unit. give one a VC and the other a BS.

You think? I may have to give it a shot then, it'd give me a chance to try out my plastic Tyrant idea...

Right, I've made some of the suggested changes, as well as a few of my own when I had some points left, so the list now looks like this:

HQ:

Yep, thats a pretty sick list you got there...

I still think you should lose extended carapace, but thats me. I suppose if you fight lots of ML launchers it'd be good.

Yeah, my usual opponent likes to stock up on missile launchers, and since he'll probably try to get rid of the Tyrants first, I thought they could use some protection.

Oh, and since you guys reckon it's a good list, I think I'll officially move it off the backburner, and onto the... frontburner, I guess, is that a word?

Ah! Many a time I have considered an army like this... you should do reasonably well with it, but remember that mobile armies will unfortunately have a massive advantage over you! 'fexes are very slow, and even Eldar basic troops can outrun you... apart from that, you should be ok! Perhaps consider a winged Tyrant? I haven't seen one of them used before though.

If anything it looks like it will be a really fun list to play! Just imagine your opponents face when you sit 8 MC's down on the table...

Right, I've made some of the suggested changes, as well as a few of my own when I had some points left, so the list now looks like this:

Hive Tyrant: 151pts
Adrenal glands (ws,i), extended carapace, toxic miasma, 2x scything talons, warp scream

Hive Tyrant: 151ptspts
Adrenal glands (ws,i), extended carapace, toxic miasma, 2x scything talons, warp scream
+++ personally, i'd go with a flying 'quick-draw' tyrant for sure! add on bio-plasma and now skimmers are much less of a threat too...+++

Elites:

Carnifex: 101pts
Adrenal glands (ws, i), 2x scything talons

Carnifex: 113pts
Enhanced senses, 2x devourers

Carnifex: 113pts
Enhanced senses, 2x devourers
+++ tasty! don't expect the assaulty 'fex to make it anywhere though... slap it in front of your assaulty tyrant for an extra 4 ablative wounds.+++

Troops:

Ripper Swarm: 110pts
10 bases, leaping

Ripper Swarm: 110pts
10 Bases, leaping
+++ i'd honestly cut out a few bases and get some leaping warriors w/bio-plasma for skimmer hunting as those things will cause you a world of hurt!+++

Fast Attack:

Ravener Brood: 120pts
3x Raveners; scything talons, rending claws

Ravener Brood: 120pts
3x Raveners; scything talons, rending claws
+++ split up into 3 broods of 2 each... yes i know it's gimmicky, but it's another unit to deploy and it's also a bit more efficiant in terms of 'scoring units' you'll have, which 'nids have a hard enough time with anyways!
it also means you break up your opponent's shooting a bit more as he/she now has another target unit to worry about...+++

Heavy Support:

Carnifex: 113pts
Enhanced senses, 2x devourers

Carnifex: 133pts
Enhanced senses, 2x barbed strangler

Carnifex: 163pts
Enhanced senses, 2x venom cannon
+++ i'd go with a 2nd twin-linked barbed stanger personally simply because it can at least cause penetrating hits on av13 and lower, which the venom cannon can't unless the target is open-topped... (and if it's and open topped squadrond like sentinels, the strangler will cause more hits too!)+++

Total: 1,498pts
i heartily suggest above all that you find some way of squeezing some fast moving bio-plasma warriors into the list to take care of sikmmers! always hitting on a 4+ is sweet!

cheers!
