The Holy Orders of the Emperor’s Inquisition

Across a million worlds throughout the galaxy spanning Imperium of Man, untold billions of humans toil each and every day in the name of the God Emperor of mankind. Each citizen is His servant and each plays their role in maintaining the day to day routine that ensures mankind’s continued dominance. From the cathedral churches of the Ecclesiarchy, the priesthood instructs each man, woman and child in the imperial and ensures humanity’s faith in the undying Emperor stays strong. Billions upon of billions of nameless scribes and adepts of the monolithic Administratum record each minute detail of the Imperium’s many worlds. From Mars and the other factory-spanning forgeworlds, the ancient order of the Techpriests equip the Emperor’s armies for war. Billions of tones of ammunition and millions of tanks roll out of the forges each day to be delivered by the Munitorium to all arms of the Emperor’s mighty armies. The Glorious men and women of the Imperial Guard march forth at the forefront of the Emperor’s forces and stand shoulder to shoulder against the hoards of vile aliens, foul mutants and deviant traitors who seek to destroy all of humanity. The holy, super-human warriors of the Adeptus Astartes push back the darkness and take the fight to mankind’s most terrible foes. And from Holy Terra itself, the mighty High Lords rule the Emperor’s realm in His name, and ensure that His will is carried out across the stars.
Yet there is one organization that is feared above all others and set apart from the rest of Imperial law. They are the Holy Orders of the Emperor’s Inquisition. A secretive and shadowy organization founded at the dawn of the Imperium, the Inquisition is the stern guardian who protects mankind from it’s greatest and most terrible foes; the Alien, the Heretic and the Daemonic.

The Ordo Malleus:

Throughout the Imperium of Mankind, the mere mention of the Holy Orders of the Emperor’s Inquisition is met with both fear and awe. They are the secret warriors who guard mankind from its deadliest foes, shining guardians who stand strong against the ever present darkness that would otherwise engulf the Emperor’s realm. Across a million worlds, the wise and the wary speak in hushed whispers of that most secret order who stand vigil over mankind’s very soul: the Ordo Malleus, the Daemonhunters.
To even speak of the ordo malleus’ existence would earn a man a long, drawn out death deep in the excruciation chambers of an inquisition fortress for their foe is the most terrible of all, the manifest form of chaos itself: the Daemon. Yet still, in lonely silence and behind closed doors, many would tell the fanciful tales of these most noble of mankind’s defenders. Men whose faith, and purity of spirit is anathema to the daemonic hoards of Chaos. Within the temples of the Ecclesiarchy, mighty stained glass windows stand as tribute to these holy warriors, smiting the foul champions of the ruinous powers with their blessed weapons.
Yet even within such a noble order, there exists a much darker truth. So terrible is their foe, and so great is the price of failure that an Inquisitor would not hesitate to sacrifice entire worlds and their populations to halt a daemonic incursion. No threat is too small and no amount of force is too great in the war against Chaos, for to fail is to forfeit your very soul. And still, despite such dark truths, there are some who would believe that they can harness Chaos as a weapon. The Radical seeks to prove that the warp is but a tool, and some would agree to certain extent, for many so-called Radicals foster their own psychic powers with which to better combat their foes. Others go beyond psychic mastery and attempt to utilize Chaos tainted artifacts and weapons or go further still and seek dominance over the daemon itself. Bound to mortal flesh by ancient ritual and imprisoned with holy chains and sigils, the Daemonhost is the most revolting and damned weapon at an Inquisitor’s disposal. However pure a Radical’s initial intentions may be, they realize that they walk a very fine line between salvation and eternal damnation at the hands of their peers.
