Blog Entries: 1 | As some of you know I'm have recently got a compressor and airbrush, I'm a novice in this area and would like as much advice as pos please! What pressure should I set the compressor at? What paint is best? Do I need to thin the paint, if so what with? What material makes a good stencil? Is normal lo-tac masking tape OK to put on other painted areas? and anything else you can think of to help me out? I HAnk you

| As far as I know that pressure is concerned, I believe it depends on what you are trying to do. Im not sure about that psi's to use, so I will read up on it for ya ![]() The paints that have worked best for me were the Tamiya military paints, for those classic military type colors ( ie olive drab, desert yellow, grey ), and Vallejo's line of air brush paints for every other color under the sun, they have quite a selection. For your acrylic paints, you can thin them down with a little bit of water. For your enamel paints you need to use a little bit of turpentine. after your done painting, you can clean your airbrush by shooting some paint thinner through it. NEVER use paint thinner to thin your colors. I can not stress this enough...Always use turpentine to thin out your colors. Paint thinner has too many impurities in it, and will eventually cause your paint to chip, hence why its better suited for cleaning. Turpentine is much more refined and will help prevent chipping. For stencils, thin cardboard or card stock works great, as do old cereal boxes. Lo tac masking tape, or blue painters tape should be fine as long as your base coat is dry. Remember to remove the tape once the new layer is almost dry but not completely, otherwise you risk chipping the new layer of paint. The only other thing I could suggest is to always test your paint flow on some card board before attempting to paint on a model. Also practice practice practice on some old card board before you even dare to paint on a model lol... You've entered an entirely new world of painting and you got alot to learn, so try to get a feel for your new air brush before you ruine those new birthday models of yours ![]() Oh and if you even dare to shoot some GW paint through that new airbrush, Erus's girlfriend wont be the only person you need fear.... You have been warned... Oh and be sure to post pictures of your progress! Happy Painting ![]()

| Sorry to double post, but I found this tut on the GW site. http://us.games-workshop.com/games/4...p2/default.htm You might find it useful especially since you plan on using your airbrush for tank painting. Tells you about the correct PSIs and what not. Do ignore their lil tid bit about using GW paints in airbrushes, they are trying to sell their products after all.. DONT DO IT OR I WILL EAT YOUR HEART AND CRAP OUT YOUR SOUL. Happy painting ![]()

| OK, OK, so you stop nagging me on msn...- No GW paints in air brush.. I swear I will beat you ( Youre old now, I think I can take ya )- Thin your paints. Milk like consistancy should be alright. Dont thin them out too much or they wont stick to the surface of your model. - Be sure to let each coat dry completely before applying another. - Layer your paint from darks to lights.. - You cant paint everything with the air brush. Small details need to be painted by hand ( rivets, lights, etc ). Anything else ?
