Fly'Rant Painted! (About time!)

Well here he is my fly'rant that blinds the enemy well looking bad ass in bright light. (still being touched up)

Looks pretty cool bud. like the idea of having gold claws and etc.Its not the normal bone color but its a nice take on him.

Thanks man, the local gw manager was trashing him for having gold. So i lost a custom contest to a well painted Ork Hq.

It looks good, but I dislike the gold as well... Those are spines and claws, and it makes more sense to me for them to be bone colored or such rather than gold. It's not a badly painted model, but for overall atmosphere, feel, and effect, the gold would really drag it down for me.

Something seem off on the side of the head though... Not sure what, but it's out of proportion.

EH im the only person that likes gold on nids, it makes them stand out really well. I had gold\purple genestealers for the soul reason of ticking off Fluff Fans

And it's your army, your right to do so and I commend the originality! Just be sure you know that when you enter competitions, they do judge on atmosphere and that will cost you there.

I like the purple and the wing coloring in general.. Very smooth and excellent finish.

Have you thought of a thin brown wash, or yellow, or brown-yellow mixed wash on the teeth? It might give them a kinda dirty, nasty feel. As if he's been gnawin on bodies for quite a while.

Thanks for the Idea Erus i was thinking SOMETHING had to be done with the teeth but i couldn't put my finger on it! ill give that a shot when im @ gw next since i would rather use there paint then mine if i can help it (plus i only have 1 brown lol)

it's a good start, but overall i find the model looks quite flat as there's no shading what-so-ever...
especially with the new washes due out on june 7th, i'd try and use a few quick inks to add some depth to the model. there's a tonne of great detail that is really just kinda hidden right now with just the basic basecoat... a good inking + a quick overbrush or a more careful drybrush will really bring out that detail!

i think it looks really good. the gold make it looks original, what fun would it be to have a bunch of the same minis painted the same way. great job.

I think the "winged bug of death" looks awesome. What makes this hobby great is the artistic flair which everyone puts into painting these minis. Judges forget about that at times and want things done traditionally. I say "BULLY!" Do what you want and damn the torpedoes. I think the gold looks good and the color scheme is great.
