Default Grey Knight Land Raider Crusader

I did this one a couple of weeks ago. I thought I would share. This is a Landraider complete with ForgeWorld upgrades for my Grey Knight list (Actually its a Grey Knight chapter).
It comes complete with detailed interior, reclining leather bucket seats!! (shot of the inside are included prior to final assembly).

This was actually my first attempt at a Land Raider Crusader. It was a fun project with lots of pinning!

I especially love the skull on the side hatch/doors... How did you get that greyish/worn color to it?

Overall, a very nice piece. It's not OTT, but painted beautifully and skillfully (my favorite type)

I start off base coating with an off white color (GW bone white or equal) then I hit it with some white. Once its all dry I hit it with one of my special home brew washes. The wash I used on this one is 2 parts black / 1 part dark brown. Mix the color into a 50/50 mix of water and future floor wax (lemon scented is what I use). There isnt a science to this so its alot of trial and error as far as how much pigment is in the mix. Next time I make a batch I will record the amounts I use.
Once the wash is dry then go back and highlight the very raised edges.

Here are some pics of the interior after it was put together.

I'm not very familiar with terms what is "OTT"?

I love the metal paint you've got going on, most Metallic painted models still look as if they've been painted, this looks like you forged it out of a lump of stainless steel

did you do anything out of the ordinary for such an outstandingly realistic colour, or is it something we mere mortals can accomplish?

I thin the metallics out and dry brush heavily in circular motions. Absolutely no brush strokes and it gives the look of an uneven metal shine.

It goes back to one of the original lessons I learned a long time ago. Thin your paints at all times.

Very nice work.

I love the cleanliness of the entire piece.

I am curious, what is the purpose of the floor wax?

The floor wax has a higher specific gravity than water alone. It will settle into cracks and recesses better. Thus taking any pigmentation with it. The effect: Pigments from the paint will flow into cracks and leave little pigment on raised surfaces.

Pretty dang impressive, especially for your first shot at a Crusader. Oh, I do love it when new members post lots of tasty pics! Keep up the good work, and give me some Chaos pics!

Oh Dragoon...Always with the chaos. He just made a Grey Knight LRC....They are the polar opposite of chaos!

Anyway, excellent model. That inside is great, I could envision a group of grizzled grey knight veterans prepping for battle in there while the hurricane bolters wail away...

Thats freaking gorgeous. Outstanding work, the color job you did and how you placed them are awesome. Question.....what if you did, what kind of airbrush did you use?

I have airbrushes, but didnt not use any for this piece. It was all done with a good ole brush.
I usually reserve my airbrushes for camo patterns, and base coating on larger projects, like the Tau list I was commissioned to do.

My first love in tabletop miniature gaming was an undivided chaos fantasy list. I then discovered the puss filled joys of Nurgle and have been a fan ever since. "Beware the Traveler, Typhus!" I do have a Death Guard list. I will post pics of them soon. I am finishing the last 5 Terminators for the army. I also have 100 Grey Knights, 3 Land Raider Crusaders (only 1 done) 25 GK Terminators, 3 Converted Dreads(all weapon options fully magnetized), Inquisitors a plenty (with retinues) ... and they are all individually named ... yes I thought of 135 induvidual names which are on every shoulder pad. Now THAT is why my friends call my sick ... I call it dedication, some say it's ... ok FINE! I'm not right in the head!!

I never really sat there and wrote down any mixture I make. Which is kinda weird considering I am a color lab technichian and I write down every little thing I do ... my rebelious side taking over I guess
The next time I make a batch of any of my washes(which is pretty soon), I will record exactly what I do and post it here.
If you want to experiment, get a piece you dont care about and go to town.
