| alright i want to create some ratlings however i can not find the things at my local hobby store or at a GW store and i refuse to buy stuff over the net. and as i cant just buy a set of thunderers and say that they are beardy ratlings i was wondering if i could just cut the shins off of a guardsmen glue the boots to the knee cap and hopefully it would be short enough to look like a ratling. after all there isnt much of a difference between a man and a ratlig excpet the height right? so tell me what you think before i go and chop off some legs

| don't bother trying to 'shrink' a guardsman or anything - just use the 'counts as' rule instead! (much too difficult to get the proper anatomy right not too mention it'll simply look funny...) just convert your snipers to appear elitist by say giving them cloaks, night vision goggles or such and/or mix in some of the cool sniper models like 'mad' larkin & the cadian snipers... (your local gw store should have an in-store bit order service!) sniper rifles can be easily converted by filing down the gun muzzle of a lasgun to appear really skinny and then adding on a length of plastic spear shaft as a flash supressor! finish the gun off with a targeting scope and you're done! that's what i did and i've never had a single complaint! just be sure to inform your opponent during set-up that's all. ![]() a quick little, "i really hate the proper ratling models, so these guys here 'count as' my ratling unit!" should suffice... hope this helps, cheers!

| yeah but im thinking of taking my ratling squads to games day and i dont really think some guardsmens with cloaks and sniper bits would be able to be the ratling squad i say they are. something about proxying or something like that. but i guess it could work alot better if i did that because hey there ratlings with sniper guns. the guns are what identify them also stich please go see the Games Day thread i made hopefully you can help make me a list that is indestructible for Games Day in Atlanta.

99.9% of people should be okay with 'counts as'... also, the mad larking model crouches down nicely too making him good and small! i don't know about 'indestructable', but i'll see what my devious little mind can help you come up with! ![]() cheers!

| if you're wanting an easy way to make some night vision goggles, here's what i do; a) take a flamer from the catachan sprue and cut off the trigger bit b) the little nobby things right above the trigger/grip is what you want - carefully using a modeling saw, remove that area to get a rectangular bit that's ironically a perfect fit across a guardsman's face! c) file down the 'goggles' so that all the sides are good and flat d) to get the goggles to sit properly, use the round file and just file out the middle area so that the goggles will sit snug across the guardsman's face, just above the bridge of the nose! in all it usually takes me about 10-15 minutes to hack-out and file down a single pair... or else you could bit order the new necro vansar head sprues through your gw store's mail service. there's 2 or 3 of those heads with goggles on 'em! cheers!

| hmm all good ideas. just what to do what to do. what i have already done right now is i cut off the lasgun barrel and bayonet holder and took the shafts of the shovels and picks from the IG vehicle sprues and used them for barrels. ill probably cut some binoculars in half and use that for the scope after i get rid of the gun sights on the lasgun. then ill get some tiny wire mesh and create some form of camo you would see a green beret sniper use.

alternatively, there are some binoculars on the cadian and catachan heavy weapons sprues that look the biz. thats what i'm using for my "ratlings" file them down and the fit nicely into the gap on a cadian vox helmet. run a thin piece of wire from the side of the helmet to the back of the gun and you're good to go.
