Blog Entries: 1 |  Hairy's Ogres (maybe :p) watchya dudes  just recently i've been getting one of my bi-anual warhammer fantasy jones's. normally i manage to ignore it until it goes away but this time it came on just as Ikky anounced the tail of x gamers project (it's almost like he knew when i'd be at my weakest  ) so i've semi decided to go for it!i've chosen ogres rather than any other army for a few reasons, well 2 really... 1) they present the most modelling opportunities for a guy with imagination and GS skill such as myself. 2) they're fairly easy on the wallet  i'm reliably informed that the battallion box is nearly 1k pts for £50 so i won't feel the pinch.so with the decision (more or less) made, i've been scratchin my head over themes for the force. naturally it'd have to be something a bit special and challenging, wouldn't be worth doing otherwise  i wanna run some ideas by you guys and see what you think.ogre army themes -pirate ogres damn both jonny depp and orlando bloom to the pit of hades! plenty of bandannas, tricorn hats and peg legs with a noticable absence of parrots. down side is that it's been/being done by others. -viking ogres not really sure, will have to do a bit of research. -barbarian ogres probably loincloths and horned helmets a la conan the barbarian perhaps  -slayer ogres as in spikey orange hair, braided beards and axes a plenty. seen it done else where so it's not as original as i'd like but almost too cool to resist. -mongolian ogres pretty self explanitory but since ogres already have a fairly mongolish feel to them it's probably the least challenging option. i'm sure with a bit of research i could up the tempo some -araby ogres turbans and dark skin tones, not many other ideas for this one -zombie ogres does what it says on the tin. rotting flesh and mouldy clothing. -chaos ogres, probably nurgle could really go to town on mutations and such. -highlander ogres this one captures my imagination a lot. looks wise a mix of braveheat and the woads from king arther. blue and white tartan, blue warpaint on the face and maybe the arms, kilts, plaids, the full scottish sh'bang. not sure what id do with the gnoblars but that's a bridge i'll cross when it comes to it. irhgt then folks, what're your thought? any themes leap out at ya? got any other ideas i could run with? thanks for readin

| Re: Hairy's Ogres (maybe :p) highlander/mongols that was the theme for my never started ogre + orc army and id love to see it mogol hats, snowy bases, fur cloaks, pelts et all do it well and ill hate you and love at the same time! pathfinder sucked royal b******ks but looked great (those vikings are the c,osest thing to GW chaos warriors ive ever seen on screen and it deserves praive for that alone! and clany brown is cool incarnate!) though having said that ogrese themed aroudn that idea would be cool, though i dont think wil lrequire much work thanks Last edited by hairyyahoo; 04-28-2008 at 08:44 AM. |

those are pretty much the two ideas that hold my imagination the most. i really love the idea behind the scottish ogres but they might end up looking a bit too...civilised...for ogres. i might run with the mongol idea and then add in some of the others for things like maneaters and such i could do like a slayer maneater, a elflike swordmaster, etc. basically just rip off the elite sections of other armies.
