Post How would you paint Necrons?

For necrons what colour would you paint necrons?

Would you paint then silver, gold, green, etc?
I collect necrons and was wondering whether silver is the right colour to paint them. if you collect Necrons can you please tell me what yours look like or even better a picture it might give me some really good ideas.

Hmm, well the way I've thought of doing them is as follows:

Metal:
1. Drybrush Boltgun Metal
2. Black Ink Wash
3. Drybrush Chainmail

Shoulders:
1. Base Mechrite Red
2. Red Ink Wash
3. Drybrush Blood Red

Oh heavens no, I'm an Imperial Guardsman, through and through. I'm working on a 1,500pt all-infantry Chem-Dog list at the moment, and I just sold a 2,000pt Cadian army.

That said, I do have 1,150pts of various Marines. 750pts of Blood Angels, and a 400pt Black Templar combat patrol.

Sounds like 'Crons to me. I would of gone with a brown ink to give it that more of a rusted out look.

I take it that your painting the gun relatively the same to the rest of the model?

I'd suggest painting on a colour like boltgun metal, then washing with black ink or brown (depending how dark you want the recesses to be)...

Then highlight with something like mithril silver, or a mix of mithril silver and boltgun metal.

Thats my thinkings anyway!

For God's sake, lad, paint them any color but silver.

There isn't a lot of surface area on the armor plating, but there's enough that it ought to have some color transitions on there, and silver is just too difficult to work with to accomplish that.

Plus silver is so ubiquitous.

I got a hold of a random Warrior in a bits box a while back and painted him up in Kronus (DOW: Dark Crusade) colors, which are dark blue with gold highlights.

I'd suggest looking around and seeing what other people have done.....then paint them any color BUT that, which will most likely be Silver

Chem-dogs, nice they are my favorite guard army cause I love how they are all criminals and all hyped up on drugs...I was gonning to do a force of them but never got off the ground...how are you modeling the chem inhalers?

And on to the crons...I always liked either the rusted out ancient look, or the look of them being made out of exotic alien materials other then metal, or just golden because gold looks cool

my fave necrons are cermaic ones, either off/white or red/boltgun metal. both are featured in the codex, and i think they look great.

i hate hate hate brown, organic coloured necrons - just doesn make sense to me, unless theye meant to be weathered and rusted and painted really well

I wanted to paint Necrons with screaming faces in their armour, but sadly, I'm not that good yet. It's hard to paint faces that small.

i agree with deadcommando: the ceramic necrons look great. i also happen to like undercoat boltgun metal, then green ink it so it's metallic green throughout, and gold trim/details/faceplates for heavy destroyers and such.. :] good luck!
