| Conscript ![]() | with great difficulty and patience is the way i find. well, theres really two ways of painting eyes.. well, three, really. 1) ignore them! probably the least effective method, both in terms of model appearance and pushing your skills. 2) give them a black or brown (or any other suitabel colour, depending on the model) wash. the ink will settle in the groove of the eyes, providing shading. this is good enough for most table-top quality models. 3) the works: this is done in one of two ways. either paint the eye white and then add in a tiny balck dot for the iris/cornea. the second way is paint them black and ad in two really tiny white dots for the scleras. this isnt easy and all i can say is practice and i cannot stress enough how important it is to use a good fine detail brushfor this. water your paints, but dont thin them too much or else its go all over the palce when youre trying to paint. what you want is a good texture of paint to hold into the brush and pick out the tiny details of the eyes without it being too opaque or watery so as to obscure all detail. |

| After you apply the ink, INSTANTLY take the sharp corner of a paper towel, and apply it to the center of the eye. It sucks up the ink in the center. Then you wait for each eye to dry, then you lightly apply a coat of white, wait for that to dry. Then you pop a dot on. Placement is key. If you go off-center you end up with Cletus's retarded cousin. And it's REALLY REALLY easy to go off-center.

| Hmmm, alright thanks. I'll go with the black wash I guess, can you elaborate on how to do that?

| First, paint the eye white, not using too much paint. Let that dry. Very important to let it dry thoroughly. Then use black ink, and do as I described. Yes, this means you will be putting ANOTHER coat of white on the eye, after the ink dries. After THAT coat of white dries, then you pop a spot on for the eyeball. Paper towels help to suck off excess ink. You shouldn't use a whole mess of ink to begin with, but if you have the right liquidity, a paper towel will help.

| Trooper ![]() | Another trick (don't do it for ALL your models) but paint one half of the eye white and one half black. It makes it look like they're looking to the side. It's good for models that are aiming lasguns or looking over their shoulder. I'll try to post some pics later of some examples. |
