Blog Entries: 1 | A friend of mine, who used to paint around the country, taught me this little trick if you can't paint for the life of you (Like me xD) :P 1) Paint the basic colours. 2) Paint the little details, but don't be too cautious. 3) Wash the model, preferably with the same color water as the area that you are washing, and tada! It looks lovely - But, if you can't use the same, a light black wash will do. Oh and, just to add (Years on) if you need to get an extremely mucky look for a model, get lots of Chaos black on your brush, and water it down in your little awesome water pot thing. Then wash it with that. Last edited by TheKiller333; 03-08-2008 at 11:50 PM. |

| If you are painting a black basecoat back over a plastic mini, either use a watered down black or a spray paint. Though you probably all know that.

| Hmmm... While I am on it... Anyone have any ideas (this is kinda paint related) how I could get a stencil, or some aid, to where I could make the images of wailing souls on my EC armor, ala Lucius and the barrel of the Fantasy hell cannon? I was thinking of using this to brighten up my models. |

Blog Entries: 1 | hmm...interesting. what exactly do you mean by wash? just wondering, i'll have to try this sometime. thanks for posting it! :] -ant Well, by wash i mean you paint the model with water, the same colour as the area that you paint. Plus, i thought it was better to basecoat in white not black, leaving the details?

| As far as basecoats go,black is better if you don't want your colors too bright. If you leave enough aroundd the edges it acts as a kind of hi-liter as well. All personal preference.

| well there is personal preference in choosing white or black basing. black helps bring out just as much details as white however black is slimming and the new black this year. havent ya heard? rolls eyes. anyway white will often help bring out the high lights later on while black will darken the paint making everything darker which i personally like more with my gritty guardsmen.

| The white vs. black arguement is one of those everlasting however pointless arguements; like ketchup or mustard and Is there a God? The correct answers are both, both and we'll see. You figure out what to use on a project to project basis eventually. My only bit of easy advice is for painting armies fast and to a standard just above table top quality. First you have to learn to layer, which isn't hard it is just a concept really and second is to make yourself some mixing pots. Mixing pots make my life so much easier and layering so much faster. Mixing pots you cannot live without: 1/2 blood red 1/2 red gore = bloodgore? use this as a red base coat (people always think it is valeho) 1/4 black 3/4 codex grey = charcoal? codex grey is just too stark a highlight on black.

| washing models is pretty simple. since its too cold to spray paint (as the paint wont really 'grab' the plastic if its cold) i wash with chaos black. dip your brush in water then a dab of black, then paint it over it. the watered down black wont really cover it as well as pray paint would but it will sink into all of the little recesses quite well. you can do the same thing with inks or other colors, but watering them down is essential |
