mentor legion modelling/painting question - 40K Terra

hi guys
looking for some advice on my latest project.
for the onset of apocolypse im planning on modelling up a small 1500-200pt force of marines to ally with my IG, in particular im going to be modelling/painting them as mentor legion - i mean who else but them to play with all the new toys and vdr goodies (well other then red hunters - but im fed up of red with my guard at the minute) so i plan on doing them, however whilst ive seen people using raptors pads on terminators and their fw doors on tanks but what do people use for their standard marines? do you hand paint the owl or raptor icon? whats the best thing to use for a chapter symbol?

good on you for going with the Mentor Legion (or just mentors as some call them...)

my best friend has a mentor army, with loads of devs, special weapons, custom bolters and termies!

his shoulder pads are freehand - painted by me, actually

its pretty easy.

the termies and vehicle doors are, as you said, raptor ones.
