Blog Entries: 1 | its good, very good for a first model. i could suggest a few things though. 1. the cloak looks a bit flat, don't overstep yourself, but mabe add a line of purple or red to out line it. 2. give the face a coat of flesh wash, the silver armor a coat of black ink, and the gold a coat of flesh wash or chestnut ink (all thinned mind you)

Blog Entries: 1 | There might be a painting tut on eyes somewhere. I know Hairy did a very good one on painting faces, you should check it out. Let me find the link.

| Pretty good paint work for your first mini. My advice is to just keep experimenting and attempt to try different ideas. There are many threads here with very well painted minis. Look around and don't be afraid to ask questions here, as everyone here is friendly and is not hesitant to share tips and ideas. A highlight is a final painting step used to get a depth look to a model. For the face as an example would be to add a little white to your face color and just paint the raised areas to create more of a realistic look. Paint the high areas such as his cheeks ,the tip of his nose and his brow line and that will give you a more natural look, and give it depth. The cloak you could just use a bright red or orange and paint the edges as a highlight.

| Very good first attempt. If you dont know what some terms mean or certain painting techniques are. Google is your friend. Try googling Dry Brushing Miniature Highlighting Miniature blacklining etc ... This is how I learned a bunch of techniques. Also, there is a tremendous wealth of knowledge right here on this site. Ask one of the VERY accomplished painters/modelers here. I have been painting for a very long time, and the guys here still have the ability to make my jaw drop.

Blog Entries: 1 | nice stuff, i also like the twin tailed commets. what i meant was drybrush/highlight (or "a drybrush highlight" as i call it) some white on the fur part.

Blog Entries: 3 | MARCUS! Last warning.. Until we've come to a decision on signature links to other forums, yours is to be removed. Remove it NOW. And, the technique you were speaking of is dry brushing, I'd mix some grey and white to paint on the fur trim, to separate it from the grey of the cloak, then drybrush some white over it. Over, black. Both colors are seen mixed in with grey wolves.

Blog Entries: 3 | Almost exactly like that! You're getting the idea. IT takes time and practice, but that's not too bad.

highlighting, as has been said, is what brins a mini to life. basically, once the base colour has gone on paint a darker shade of it into the recesses and a lighter shade onto the ridges. it might help to imagine where the theoretical light source would be for your mini. for example you could think to yourself that the sun would be in front of your priest, slightly off to the left. this would mean that any surface facing left would be slightly lighter than the base colour and serfaces facing right would be slightly darker, and that the top of such areas would be lighter than the bottom. the wash thing that munkey mentioned is basically an ink, or a paint diluted with water to the consistancy thinner than milk, which helps shade certain areas that are hard to get to. try thinning some chaos black with clean water until you can see the mixing pallet through it and then paint this onto the metal areas. the wash will run into the recesses but leave the ridges more or less the original colour. just be careful not to overload your brush. it'll take a bit of practice but once you master it you never paint in flat colours again! ![]()
