OK...Acetone or any Acetone based materials..i.e. NP remover will eat plastic but it works fast on the paint so you can strip plastics with it as long as you don't emerse them...use an old tooth brush and keep a small bowl of soapy water handy when using it...it's the best for metals as it cleans ALL the paint off and can also be used to wash the figs in without any worry of having to rewash them...

If Acetone bothers you..then pinesol on plastics is the next best choice...no damage at all but you have to be a bit more patient...2-3 days and then scrub a bit...rinse and scrub again...

Just personal experience there...

I painted them prior...then I decided I wanted to change them...

And..does anyone have any tips on how to get the sticky substance off the figures? I was just going to redo the stripping, hope that would work.

I just bought my new stripping chemicals today.

Might as well put an article on my stripping technique i've been using for years.

I use concrete degreaser/cleaner.

Thats POWERFUL stuff.

Hey... what's up with this... did I just miss it or what? I'm looking into stripping my marines and wanted this advice.

Here is what I do...
I buy cheap marines on ebay
I clean plastic with simple green and metal with pure acetone. may take 2-3 times cleaning with it.
I prime and paint!!
Enjoy myself or pass the savings on to others

Workss good for me!!

I use some stuff called Simple Green, it works like a charm! It doesn't eat the figure either, I left some in it for a week and the paint came right off.

Right, my friend tried to strip some models painted with Citadel paints with brake fluid, but it was not really effective. Brake fluid works well on acrylics, but I'm gonna try Simple green on a Vindy I have because it was painted with Citadel. Let you know how it works out.

I should probably mention you should leave them in it for 12 hours minimum, I usually leave them soak for 24 hours!

umm i don't know what exactly is used for stripping paints, but i hear that brake fluid works ? but don't quote me on that, i could be wrong. it's also probably an extremely unhealthy chemical to be around XD
i dont believe brake fluid would work because its hydroscopic meaning it absorbs moisture and i dont know how much moisture there would be in 3 layers or dryed citidel paint....(yes thats all true didnt make it up lol....im learning to becom an auto tech so i must know these things^_^)

the best thing to strip metal figures is nitromorse it takes less than 10 minutes to take effect and doesn't cost the earth and you can buy it from most DIY stores but do not put plastic anywhere near the stuff as you'll come back to nothing this includes bases or anything else.

Its also quite a toxic substance so a well ventalated room and the rest of it and a knackered old toothbrush but dont leave this in it either ( toothbrush = really hard plastic = still no match for nitromorse ) the first time I used this stuff I left my toothbrush in and came back to a handle

Plastics i've been told Mr muscle oven cleaner works dont know if thats available in the states though
