Thousand Sons Terminator

Hi, first post and I want to start it off with angering all Grey Knights players by defiling their Terminators!

Anyway here's the first Thousand Sons Terminator I've done, soon to be followed by a whole squad. You'll notice that I just drilled out the head and placed a Thousand Sons head in there, the only reason I did that was because I hate the Terminator "cow" heads, and putting the head dress on a Grey Knights head would make it look to much like a Grey Knight in a bad costume.

Wow! Thats an amazing model! That blue is really nice, and the Thousand Sons head looks great!

Also, thats a great flamer-like weapon he's got- what is it exactly, and how did you make it?

The flamer weapons is about 6 radom bits glued together to make it, all i did was cut the top of the incinerator off and glue what I think is a vehicle flamer on. Not sure, I buy bits bags/boxes off of people and just use whatever bits are in there.

Yep, I play my thousand sons almost exclusively! My Ravenwing might have to be put on hold at 1k points for a little while till I get the 2 Thousand Sons Dreadnoughts I intend to buy!

Yep I plan on getting one of those too, as well as converting a Defiler to look like a Scorpion. If that goes over well I may do a second one as well.

It's a shame no one really plays them, I think they have some of the nicest looking models around. But then I guess that makes us unique

nice work! the scultping isn't too shaby either... don't worry, it'll come with practice!
i recall the first berets i scultped for my drop troops looked more like a french painter's hat! 80 heads later though, and i can crank out about a dozen or so good berets a day!

i wouln'd mind seeing another front view shot though, as the way you have model turned, half his face is hidden behind his sword...

i do really like that flamer though! (too bad only the massively expensive chosen can take it though...)

yeah, my photo-fu is terrible and my camera likes to highlight every imperfection on the model. I'll try to work on a new set of pictures and have them up along with pictures of my painted Lord.

A few Photography tips:

• Dont move your camera too close, about 30cm away from the model.
• Rest the camera on something when taking the photo.
• Best lighting is daylight.
• Dont take a picture with the light source in the picture, you just get a shadow of a miniature.
• Try and use a blank background. A gradual colour change like blue at the top, which fades to white at the bottom creates best effects.
• If you have a macro setting on your camera, use it.
• Dont get in the way of the light source and cast a shadow over your model.

If you use the blue to white gradiant, then it makes the model look so much better, as shown here:

hey ion raptor, that looks really good ! :] just wondering though, how did you remove the head? you said you used a drill, but could you clarify that ? i have a few metal models in need of head-swapping :]

Oh boy it was not fun, it's basically a matter of using sprue cutters to hack at the helmet as far as you can go, then using a drill to dig into it. Then switching back to sprue cutters to trim the sides down before drilling again.

Needless to say the Grey Knight helmet will be destroyed in the first few minutes and it take a REALLY long time to get it drill out enough for a head to fit down inside it. It's a pain but looks nice in the end.

half of what im trying to change will end up being redone in green stuff...

but that is really nice! couldnt tell at first that it was a GK. i would also like another view of the face. the swords in the way.
how many layers of blue did you use? it seems really smooth.

How hard was it, and what methods did you use, to cover/destroy the =I= iconography and GK symbols? I might just use these guys for a project of mine...

well with a thin file it is actually very easy to get rid of the ]I[ symbol for the Knight, those 4 little knobs on the sides are a perfect track to run the file through, then I just green stuffed a REALLY bad looking eye lol.

As for the chapter symbol on the shoulder pad you just file away the sword and leave the book (they're sorcerers after all, and all spells come from books I suppose)

the blue is just one thinned down layer of Vallejo Ultramarine Blue , with my next Terminators I'll be watering down my golds and putting them on in about 3-4 layers so the flakes are not so obvious

Well technically you can't have a rubric termie as all chosen models are automatically sorcerors...

awesome model besides the inquisition symbol on the belt. Also I don't know what but something about looking at it from the back just looks space marine and not chaosy enough.

It doesn't look to chaosy, but, I suppose that's something you can work on later.

I give you credit for converting metal models, it takes a brave and patient man to do that!

well no it doesn't look chaosy, just look at the Sorcerer from the boxed set, nothing really chaos about it either.

actually there are Rubric Terminators, and there's also Chosen Terminators

ah...must have missed that part of the codex... The only real benefit of the chosen terminator thing I can see would be the combi-bolter inferno bolts combo...

Right, I'll throw up a guide on how to make stamps later tonight. mostly used for flat, one sided icons but i managed to make a purity seal one. I have to wait for it to dry to see how well it came out

not true for +18 points to the standard troops they all become terminators, take up an elite slot, only the Aspiring Champion does get W2 and slow and purposeful
