| It also depends on what unit insignia you are attempting to put on if its Ultra markings you need to cut the decal in key spots to make it fit proper but yes decal set is a must

| The Munkey Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yea I ASS_U_ME d (LOL) this was done. large decals MUST be nipped in certain spots for them to "bend" in a rounded shape. if not it WILL tear or not set no matter what you do for it!

Blog Entries: 3 | I have some of the solvent/setting spray for transfers, but am looking to make my own. Sadly the software I got from Testors only lets me use very little of the program unless I buy another one (though I was getting off cheap! >.<). Anyone know how i'd go about making a sheet? (sorry to thread jack, but I thought the OP might find the question useful too).

| The Emperor's Mercy ![]() ![]() ![]() | hmm, i dunno about printing transfers, but i've heard that a hair dryer set on low to gently dry it helps a little bit. personally, i just don't trust them :P

Blog Entries: 1 | I find with transfers, (I have done a lot!) the favourite thing they like to stick to are your fingers. So i wet the suface I'm applying them to, I dip my finger in warm water and rub a bit over the area I'm applying it to (not so it is in a droplet, but evenly smeared) I use a fresh blade on my modelling knife and cut the transfer out. Cut into the clear excess around the actual design, carefully, to remove a much as pos. (do this step before wetting area!) Dip your cut out transfer into warm water (use tweezers) for about ten secs. Then slide it with your finger on the underside of the decal paper and your tweezers controling the actual transfer slide it into place. - Care must be taken with the tweezers as it is very easy to tear the decal, so very gentle positive movement required (you will get the hang of it). make small movements with your tweezers to do any fine adjustments. Leave the bugger - do not touch the mini!!!- for at least 12 hours. You will find you decal is shiny, do not worry... Get yourself some Dullcote gloss varnish spray...and some dulcote Matt spray... give a nice even coat of the gloss as if you would as you were under coating (your mini WILL look hideouse at this point) Then you need Dullcote Matt. Do the same as above, but you will need 2 coats, some say leave it for 24 hours, but I leave mine for about 3 before giving next coat and it works! You will get a lovely even finish all over your mini and your transfers look like they have been painted. Hope that helps (I have done hundreds!) |

| Lord Commander Militant ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ya know what I'm going to do a tutorial on this... I have a very good method and alot of Black Templars that could be used as examples. I have this stuff called Micro set and Micro sol that are great for getting decals to set properly on uneven surfaces. BvL

Blog Entries: 8 | well the offending insignia i need help with are the small BA wing things for the shoulder pads, it just wont all stay down. Most of the time i end up throwing the model at the wall. soddin symbol try an outsmart me...... The micro sol stuff sounds interesting and a tut would be nice. Mart i could tell you have done a lot of transfers as you answered with a rather large-ish post. Erus why dont you make them up in a program like Paintshop Pro and print onto the speshcal paper stuff. |
