Hmmm...I may try this later myself... Do you plan on GSing over the spacers at the shoulders or are those fully hidden?

i'll probably gs them. it would be a shame to have that one flaw spoil a good job, although the oversized shoulder guards do hide it quite a bit.

the legs look great, nice pose, and they should be good once GSed.

there shall be wolfy bits, oh yes, there shall. he'll get some hair and braids, talismans, charms and teeth on a string, company markings from a gs mold. he'll be pretty much festooned!

as for the shoulder pads i know what you mean, he could probably wrestle a terminator and win but they should look more proportioned when the legs are finished and bulked out a bit.

do you think that the legs could stand to be a little taller? or they ok as they are?

Hairy, I must say...you have surpassed even my own meager assumptions on this project...I believe you have a bit of work cut out for you in maintaining the standards you have set for yourself...so I will bow out and let you get started...just one final note...here here...

legs look good as they are, but its hard to say until i see the finished thing - it depends on how much you bulk them out. if you want really fat legs, i suggest making them taller, but i think they should be ok as is.

I actually love that. I'll try this on a spare chaos marine soon, see how it goes.

I may try it too...just as soon as I start working on new chosen models.... and as soon as I find sandpaper to smooth out my GS work.

yep. i've finished gsing the legs and i'm just plucking up the guts to add the wolfy type bits. i've had a couple of goes at molding something for the shoulder using dans stencil idea but i'm having limited success. the first try was based off one of the sw decal designs but ended up looking like a womble!

my main problem at the moment is the fact that i can't tear myself away from the key board for long enough to do any modelling. if you guys don't stop being so bleedin interesting i'll never get any work done!

i'll answer you questions but first off...more pics!

i'm well pleased with the legs but not 100% happy with the shoulder thing. its not bad, but then its not good enough to earn the hairy seal of approval.

d_c; i'd find it very hard to follow your example as my computer is a full tower unit and is situated in my living room while my modelling gear is in the kitchen (?!?) at the other end of the house.

as for the scouts i'll be using the plastics and i won't be true scaling them at all other than the wolf guard as i wan't to really show the difference that being in a suit of power armour makes to your stature. i will be modelling them fairly extensively though. i'm gonna have them armed with twin pistols sporting combat attachments and i want them in more dynamic conbat poses. one will be crouching and aiming to the right, another will be kicking someone in front of him and a third will be diving to the side firing both of his pistols at a target in front of him (very john woo style stuff). as for the other two i'm not too sure yet. one might be armed with a melta gun (depende onthe feed back i get on the list) and i'm sure i can find something for the other.

does that answer your questions?

cool, thanks!

the legs look really good! i hope they werent too hard to put you off doing the rest of the army!

the spacers between the body and arms i dont like - it makes them too wide, but thats just personal tastes: it looks good!

the shoulder pad rims came smooth, which is great though again, not to my tastes

though i think the shoulder pad design came prett good: id be pleased with that. just some careful painting and it will be fine.

so was that made in a mould or was it free hand, if it was freehand, Great stuff!

nope, not free hand. i cheated outrageously and molded it but i didn't do the mold very well and had some trouble getting the gs out. i'll redo the mold and have another go. does anyone know whats the best/cheapest/easiest type of lube to use on a gs mold?

the legs were gs'ed in one part at a time, letting that one part totally dry before moving on to the next. i know that this is the long assed way to do it but if i speed up i always end up with finger prints in the sculpt.

Vegetable oil usually works for me.

vaseline. ive experimented with moulds before, and found that GS moulds, with milliput is the best use.

the important thing is making the mould. really cover the icon with vaseline, dont be sparing

and really push the GS around it, making sure youve got no air bubbles and you have all the detail on it. id try make a few moulds, to see which comes out best

I'd keep the scouts standard size, or make them smaller TS than the marines, as they aren't in power armour, but should still be taller than your average.
