Blog Entries: 1 | swiping another of D_C's ideas frist painted shots page 6 scouts page 8 Yo to you all. So here i am setting out on my first 40kterra w.i.p thread, and as you may have guessed from the title i'm starting a new space wolf force. why? well when i first got into 40k i was a space wolf player but i gave them up because i couldn't get the paint job right. that was about a decade ago. now i've discovered that i can paint alot better than i used to so theres really no reason not to return to my roots. i intend for this project to incompass all the various elements of the gw hobby; modelling, sculpting, painting and gaming. i really want to push my skills to the limit on this one and create a great looking army in the process. the gaming aspect i'll be creating a tournie style 1500 pt list, not necessarily to take to tournaments but because its a nice round number and should end up being fairly competative. the basic theme to the army will be a fast moving task force that epitomises the term "surgical strike". i'll want every squad mounted in either a rhino or razorback, with landspeeders for fire support and little or nothing in the way of heavy equipment. one thing i absolutly know i want in there is a unit of scouts. i want to recreate the feel of a bunch of hard bitten veterans that operate behind enemy lines with nothing but their own resoursfulness to fall back on. when i can get my hands on copies of the sm and sw codices i'll make a seperate post in the army lists forum that i'll want some help on. keep your eyes peeled for further developments. modelling and sculpting i really want to push my abilities in this area, so i've got some fairly optimistic ideas about the final look for the force. firstly, i want to bulk up the models by adding plasticard spacers to the shoulder and hip joints, and the feet. any and all advice on how to do this would be most welcome. this means that the entire army will have to be plastic, but since theres a butt load of plastic sm stuff out there i really don't feel too restricted. its almost as if space marines are gw's fave . secondly, i want to really up the wolfy feel with some green stuff sculpting. i'm fairly certain that i can manage to do runic talismans and wolf teeth. i might try a bit of green stuff molding for a shoulder pad design if i can find a good enough piece to do. i've already done a test run on a plastic snap-fit marine i found in my bits box and it looks passable. i'll post up a pic once i have him all painted up, couple of days tops. any sculpting advice would also be most welcome. lastly, wargear. i had a crazy idea about mounting all chainswords and power weapons on a longer haft, making them almost like pole arms and having them weilded with two hands. pistol weapons would then mounted either on the haft or on the wielders gauntlet, kinda like custodes or grey knights. for the bolter armed models i want to play on the "true grit" ability by having them hold their weapons one handed and having combat knives in the other hand. the scouts will be getting catachan arms on plastic scout bodies and have their combat knives held "blade down". they'll also get some gs to wolf them up a bit. painting and stuff i want to try out some techniques that i've failed to master in the past, like blending for a start. i might even mess around with nmm but that might be a bit ambitious. i'm toying with the idea of having battle damaged armour too. what do you think, painted on or modelled on? if anyone can think of other painting techniques that i can try give me a shout, i'm up for anything! so how can you lot help me? well for a start, you guys give some great feedback on threads like this so i'll be expecing plenty of that to help me refine my skills of iron out the wrinkles in my concepts. if anyone hase any ideas that improve on mine then feel free to chime in, i'll consider any good idea. i'm gonna be setting myself a budget of about £15 per fortnight or £20 a month for this little project (have to beat my whyf to the cashpoint on payday to get the higher amount, if i fail she'll only spend it on dvds) so don't expect this to move too fast, but if you notice that i haven't added anything for a while please give me a nudge. i'm notoriously undisciplined when it comes to just about everything so this is an important thing that i'm asking of you, please don't fail. if you have to, physical violecne will not be held against you ![]() well, here goes. wish me luck what have i gotten mysolf into?!? edit: here's a taster of what's going on in here... ![]()

Blog Entries: 4 | Some of the DA and BT Rifles are already attached to the hands which lends itself nicely to inspiring poses. Otherwise, just lop off the bolt pistols from some hands and replace with bolters where necessary, it turned out well for my CSM. http://40kterra.com/forums/showthrea...t=1128&page=11

| Also, check out Scibors tutorial on the website for armor detailing. With some work, you could really make some nice looking rune adorned armor for wolfguard and such. Plus, I have done quite a bit of study into the norse cultures, so I can help you with runes, if you want to add a bit of an extra touch there! |

| well for the shoulderpad: one thing you could do is to cut out a stencil type thing in plasticard as the wolf head chapter symbol. then put it on a shoulderpad and press green stuff into it, take away the plasticard stencil, and bam. mass produced raised chapter symbols that all look the same! though its kind of a cheap way to do it, if you cut the plasticard well enough itll look awesome, and its alot less work on your part. |

| Fortnight i love how you guys still use that word anyway hairy i think this is an ambitios project to push your skills to the limit im rooting for you and cant wait to see the results as far as battle damaged armor ive use a fire heated needles to sim las burn as it gives a melted look go figure and ive used my dremel tool to drill holes for like bolter/solid shot and you can use small shards stuck in the armor to sim shuriken rounds

| bears. beets. BSG. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | mm first off: GOOD LUCK HAIRY. this is a huge project but i'm sure a bit of effort and it will turn out nicely :] i think for battle damage, i personally prefer modelled on. this way i feel it's more grizzled, but you could also do both and have them pretty ripped up. another method for creating bullet holes is to create a sort of dent in the plastic, then sweep out from the hole with a hobby knife. it really gets a pierced armor feeling once you get the hang of it. again, good luck! and looking forward to pictures :] -ant

| The Great Wolf ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Brother Hairy you have my respect and my best wishes...and my brain for pickin at...LOL I have found an article from an old WD with the Dwarven rune alphabet in it...(it's the same one as the norse alphabet)...if you need it I can send you a copy via scan and post... As for the Wolf teeth and runic charms...on one of the SW torsos there is a premade necklace hangin at the waist...(somebody actually had their brain functions in the on mode at GW) carefully cut this off and make several GS molds of them...I tell ya what...it makes modeling teeth and charms much easier...and by splitting the necklace just between the charm and the set of teeth...you can increase or decrease the size and amount of the teeth you want to use...

| Conscript ![]() | nice. ill be looking at the conversiins very closely, but a word of wisdom - as someone whose made about 50 truescale marines for his army, i dont think they will look nice with the plasticard in the hip. id extend the thigh/shin instead by cutting each piece in half and adding a piece of plasticard, smoothed oer with GS. if you see all new marine artwor its their legs that gives them their size. its a bit more work, but they will look much better. and another trick to make them bigger is to glue the arms slightly higher on the body than you normally would, which in turn makes the shoulderpads higher on the model. good luck! oh yeah: WE WANT PICTURES! |

Blog Entries: 1 | mmmm...good luck for the wolf scout are you using SM scout bodies with catachin arms...I would replace the weapons now axes are always a good choice and catachin knives are good too and what I did a few times to some bolt pistols in add scopes and silencers for that elite/steathy feel Silencers are easy. put about 4-5 pieces of plasti card on top of each other and drill a hole in the the desired length (you decide) and the width should be a little wider then the current barrel, not too big or it'll look bulky, and shove some green stuff in it let it dry and the remove the layers until the silencer is safely out..(REPEAT)..Same Idea for scopes just make it a different length and width and after words it will look much better if you embellish it with more green stuff and add an eye piece or something like it ![]() (scopes on a bolt pistol look cool)Oh also be sure to keep some of the shoulder pad from the SM scout for the arms or else it looks sort of odd

| Conscript ![]() | where are these pics everyones else is going on about, all i see are a bunch of lame links im too lazy to follow... ![]() seriously, nice work on the GS. the shoulder pad symbol looks great, question is can you do it on a whole army and have it look the same? ![]() thats a good solid SW colour you got there. looking forward to seeing it on the truescale models... speaking fo which, 2mm should be good. i personally go for a bit thicker on the shin (maybe 3mm) and 1mm on the thigh, but thats my prefence - i find 2mm on both makes the thigh look a bit too long, but experiment and see what works for you. also, the feet may require slight repositioning with this method, but nothing too big. and again, dont you dare add to their height bu the wais, i will personally seek you out and melt them down in front of you if i see that ![]() im really a nice guy, honest. PS: youll also find that messing around with poses can make a marine alot taller without recourse for anything. for instance, take the first marine you showed us, if you make his left leg standing on something (anything up to 5mm ish, hell be a lot taller than other mariens without the need to extend his legs (of course hell look different to the others. |
