My ruined building - 40K Terra

well boys and girls since i have absolutly no minis to paint, and with lack of funds i cant buy any more at the moment. i decided to spend my time making some scenery. so heres a couple of pics of what i started.

Nice start...and yer using foam core...best stuff ever invented for buildings...you gonna put in a second story chunk O' floor?...

Looking good Burny, be sure to apply very thinned poly filla to give it a really good stone effect on it (Not to thin that you get brush strokes in it and not to thick either!). Thanks for sharing I look forward to the progression on!

also be sure to seal the foam part before priming or it'll melt under the spray, but i' sure you knew that already

hey i have a question: are you gonna use spray paint to paint it, or are you gonna do use the ol' trusty brush ? i heard somewhere that spray paint on foam makes it melt and releases dangerous chemicals. although i may be wrong

haha just a word of warning. but it looks good ! definitely has the ruined building feeling. looking forward to seeing more ! :]

Yeah your right, I'm sure he know's. If you use polyfilla that will seal it, making sure there are no gaps of course!

It's gonna be a nice piece when finished

Looks great so far, remember to never waste any material. Use your scraps to make rubble and what not. also to keep the spray paint from melting your foam, just " paint " over those exposed foam edges with some watered down PVA glue ( any white glue will work ). Remember to matt varnish the entire peice when you are done painting. This will help keep the paint from chipping .

im planning on covering the exposed foam up with foam putty then spraying it with roughcoat, and drybrush the whole thing, to give it a good textured look. i hope it works.

If you plan on making more foamcore buildings, try using a sharper razor blade to get a smoother, cleaner cut.

im just winging it. what ever comes to mind i do a rough mock up if i dont like it i dump the idea.

here i added a base, also some bendy straws to represent water pipes, pieces of a soda can for scrap metal, did more bullet holes, razor wire as well, and added scrap pieces of foamcore and strips of balsa wood for the larger piles of rubble.

and the painting has begun. i did a roughcoat, then i started with shadow grey, then codex grey, then fortress grey, and a very light amout of space wolves grey. to be honest im not sold on the color but oh well. maybe when i get a side completly painted it would look better.
