that would be the one!

looking over it again, i did my darker lines a wee bit thicker sadly, but then i kept to a standard brush instead of switching to the fine detail brush...

mind you, i'm trying to give myself a bit of a challenge by keeping to just a standard brush for most everything - including all the details! (yep, i'm truely mad!)

cheers!

the challenge being... inbability of doing fine detailing?

seriously if you have a fine detail brush and think you need it for something - use it, dont limit yourself to a larger one!

well, it's a personal, or rather, a peer-induced challenge that i'm trying to live upto! one of my mates painted a golden daemon worthy model a few years back using a tank brush!
so, a few of my friends, (including the psycho who painted the infamous mage!) have challenged me to try and stick to only a standard brush...

i'm also looking at this as a learning experience. if i can paint an army and have it finish in say the top 5 for best appearence and/or best army, then i might be at the point that i can seriously consider perhaps entering the demons in another year or so!

anyways, here's the long-awaited photos!!! forgive my techno-stupidity for the links... i have no clue how to post the photos proper in the thread!

hope the wait was worth it. anyways enjoy and as always, i welcome any comments/crits
cheers!

*stabs stitch with syringe, uses blood to make clones and sets them to work painting his army*

In all seriousness, amazing work. + rep.

thank-you!

the flames simply require practice & patience;
1) lightly outline your basic pattern with watered down blazing orange. once you're happy with the design, fill it in comleatly with a even coat of blazing orange.

2) 1st highlight is roughly an 80/20'ish? mix of fiery orange & blazing orange... (can't really recall, i might have just gone to very watery coats of fiery orange and slowly built it up?!)
anyways, highlight the upper 2/3rd's or so of the flames.

3) the top 1/2 of the design is then highlighted strait fiery orange

4) the top 1/3rd is given a highlight of 50/50'ish fiery orange + sunburst yellow. basically i keep these highlights to the edges and tips of the flames.

5) final highlight around the tips of the flames with 80/20'ish sunburst yellow + fiery orange.

my mixes are likely a bit off though... because i use fairly watery coats to get a much more subtle blend, i tend to simply mix the next colour with the previous mix! (and i'm lazy too!)

erus: ouch man! that hurt! thank-you again though for the kind words.

anyways, i'm likely going to be holding back on the amount of detail for now just so i can be assured i get my army at least properly painted for the tournament...
i've also finished assembling my 1st unit of terminators!*evil grin*

cheers!

well, let us know when you have them all done (i know my apoc army will take a lot longer than the 12 hrs i spent on my nids)

Even though i am VERY happy with the way that the nids turned out.

i most definately will do! though it'll be a bit before i get the chance to go back over everything as after astro, i've got about 25 or so odd days to prepare for a massive apocalypse game!

however, the 1st terminator unit, 'squad infernal' is now built and ready for priming!
in total i used a few of the blank chaos termie shoulder pads + the skull pad along with a pair of the spikey racks, 2 chest plates and a set of the walking legs for the squad sergeant.
i filed off a bunch of the chaos iconography, especially on the sergeant's legs! then finished them off with a healthy does of purity seals, incense censors, liturgy banners and such...

cheers!

well, i for one ain't happy! we didn't even get a close-up of the bolter you've spent the last few days or so teasing us about!?!

the rest looks good though definatly rep worthy.

oh...and to get the images in the thread use the [img] option, the last of the 4 options on photobucket.

i haven't done the bolter with the marble effect yet due to time constraints... i did do a proper job on the one marine's shoulder pad, (the sword), but alas the photo didn't turn out. (i'd varnished the 'marble' area and the camera flash just caught it at a funny angle so it turned out as a giant white'ish blur.)

and thanks too for the tip!

cheers!

I've got that new super duty firehose though. It keeps 'em in check.

LOL! there's noone who can truely handle just one of me! you're doomed if you clone that army of me...
oh, and actually, there's a local kid i'm slated to drop my guard army on top of next week too... he plays eldar and likes psykers alot, so little devius is going to have a nice snack.

anyways, i've got two full days off so with enough kicking, i should get a good amount of work of done. the goal is to finish up both my 5 man power armour squads at the very least... at best, i hope to have at least gotten the termies well underway as well!

cheers!
