Default stitch's staff tournament army WIP

greeting, greetings man-things!

well, our yearly staff tourny is only 3 months away... for the first time ever, stitch will be playing LotR?!!

so, do i have a list yet? hell no... still, my plan is to have a solid center of easterlings supported by the much weaker orc hoards. (as the black numenoreans won't be out yet!)
however, for now i've started painting up my 1st phalanx of easterlings which consists of;
1 easterling captain w/halberd
1 banner bearer
4 easterlings w/sword & shield
14 easterlings w/sword, spear & shield
that should make a nice solid block which can fight in 3 ranks!

so here they are - pretty pictures!!!

okay, so it's barely a start - but it is a start!!!
as i'm off today, i'm planning to spend the bulk of my time feverishly painting!

cheers!

Keep it coming!

PS, the bases, could you do something to match the gravel they are standing on? That looks good

Here stitch have a Human to eat.

Well the army idea is a good one i play High elves when i can be arsed and wipe the floor with all but easterlings *stupid 3 rank *** ass phalanx rule*. The models are looking awesome as i would expect good luck with the tourney.

my main problems i'm having with designing my army list are;
a) getting everything i want!
b) the minas morgul allies lacking their scarier models! (sadly, the black numenoreans aren't out untill 2-4 weeks after the staff tourny!>.<) stupid early easter in march becuase it's a leap-year!!!
still, i've got 6 morgul stalkers and i'd like to include at least 4 of 'em as they're not only sweet models, but for orcs they're also dead scary!

anyways though, i've been thinking about dropping my phalanx a bit in size so i'll have 2 smaller ones of about only 15... i'll need a good 5 or so kataphraks hobbit armies are very popular! (stupid hobbits and their throwing of stones!)

i'll try and get a list up soon... hopefully within the next few weeks we'll have finally heard how many pts the lotr tourny will be too!

cheers!

UPDATE!!!

okay, so we're all a bunch of lazy gits where i work... but luc finally e-mailed a few photos, sadly, his camera's acting up.
anyways, this is probably the most models i've recently painted and seen through to near-compleation!

Image of easterling army WIP 4 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

sadly, i've had to drastically alter my list for a few reasons;
a) my original list called for a total of 67 models
b) the tournament's in 2 weeks!O.O
c) continants drift faster than i can paint!

so right now i've still got the following to compleat;
5x spear & shield easterlings
10x easterling archers
THE DARK LORD SAURON!!! *insert evil laugh*

hope you all enjoy!
cheers!

oi...you stole my line! i know how you feel blue, i can't seem to help adding obscene levels of detail to everything i paint these days.

the easterlings are looking good. the gold in particular is very striking.

oops! sorry about that... (though not really!)

the gold is a real b*%!$ to paint though. mixing shining gold + mythril silver = a fate worse than death! the mythril is simply so strong that it's dead easy to over do it and then it's back to re-blending the previous highlight! (and there's 3 of 'em once the basecoat/ink wash/re-gold is done...)

this tediousness with the gold does mean however that the red is for once easier to paint and highlight, which i guess is a plus?!!

cheers!

yeah, mithril is a real bugger alright! used sparingly and it's really effective, over do it and it winds up a right mess.

i plan to use the small & large slate from the 40k basing kit. i also have some yellow'ish flock to creat little patches of dead grass/weeds.
i'm going to try for a look similar to the grey'ish/ash-choked wasteland at the black gate in the films.

cheers!

got luc to take some more photos today... hopefully i'll have them up by the weekend.

also got the red fully done on the last remaining spear/shield warriors!

i'm thinking that my list migh be;
captain w/easterling halderd
easterling w/banner
8x sword/shield warriors
12x spear/shield warriors
2x kataphraks
dark lord sauron w/the one ring

okay, i'm a dirtball i know... but hell, it's the only way i'll have a fully painted army and my goal is to win 'best army'!

and, horror of horrors, 1 model is actually... BASED!!!

cheers!

yep! i did indeed... the 40k urban basing kit was a great buy as it has the large & small slate.

i gave it all a wash of 60/40 brown ink/black ink wash and then overbrushed codex grey followed by a light drybrush of fortress grey with a bit of dark flesh mixed in... looks decently close to the terrain they had in the film.

luc is off tomorrow so i plan to bug the hell out of him today about e-mailing the newest photos!

cheers!
