Default [WIP] Adepts Custodes

Ages ago I was talking about making some Adeptus Custodes and I created the rules for them with the help of other 40K Terrans:

http://www.cg-multimedia.com/Image%2...s_Custodes.jpg

Now i'm going to start having a go at making then.

just a quick note on all the 'U' icons. I will greenstuf the space in the middle of the 'U' and make a gem ontop of it instead. This will be done with all the models.

Adeptus Custode Sergeant

Marneus Calgar Champion
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefr...=9947010129906

Marneus Calgar Champion Arms
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefr...=9947010129907

Captain Lysander Shield
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefr...=9947010131103

The power sword arm will be added as usual, nut the other dagger will be cut short and the Lysander shield will be glued onto the hand. Ill also greenstuff a cloak onto him.

Adeptus Custode

Marneus Calgar Guard 1
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefr...=9947010129908

& (for a bit of variation)Marneus Calgar Guard 2
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefr...=9947010129908

The Axe blade will be removed so the box and cable bit remain on the Axe shaft. The bolt gun will then be altered so it is shorter and taller, then glued onto the end of the axe shaft. The blade will then be re-attached to the end of the bolt gun bellow the muzzle. The pointy bit of the blade will be pointing the other way to what it is on the original model. The Axe shaft will then be extended and the hand/wrist will be bent so the other hand can hold onto the other end of the extended Axe shaft.

The vent on the top of the Head will be filed off and I will Greenstuff more of a pointy helmet. This will create a helmet almost exactly like the ones shown in the artwork.

Painting

The main colour of the armour will be gold. The joints will be Black and the Tabbard at the front will stay Red. The cloaks will also be red with white patterns and the aquilla.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, a few questions that you could answer:

1) Do you think the Lysander sheild is a good option, or is there a better?

2) Didn't the Emperor have a double thunder bolt badge before the Aquilla was used? I remember reading it somewhere...

3) Should I keep the exising Champion head for the sergeant, Or make it pointy?

Any any other general comments would be nice.

I think it works well. And, without exstensive work, none better come to mind at the current time.

2) Didn't the Emperor have a double thunder bolt badge before the Aquilla was used? I remember reading it somewhere...
Yes, yes he did. If I can get my big ol' Visions of book out i'll try and scan it for you.

3) Should I keep the exising Champion head for the sergeant, Or make it pointy?
I'd say pointy, as it is just my preference, but the look great!

Any any other general comments would be nice.
There ya go, it is my opinion!

Have a go man!

Oh, the link for the Lysander Shield is wrong... it gives the sword link all over again.

I have fixed the link.

Oh, I also forgot to put that on the top of the points head, I will also greenstuff some hair/ponytail thingy that comes out of the top of the point. Here is some more artwork I found:

For the Helms you could always use the high-elf swordsmaster heads...provided you can hack them from the metal models...

hmm, they would be good, but I think £2.50 for a head is a bit much for me. Im on a budget. I can make it easily out of greenstuff anyway.

*nods* Good approach so far. Can't wait to see how it ends m'man. Would you be interested in the conversion guide I have for my bikers for the Emperors Children? The same guide shows how to make a Custodian Jetbike!

oh yea, I know about that. If I really like these, and I go crazy and make another 20, then I might consider adding some bikes.

*nods* Fun thing about them is, if you do it right, it is fairly in-exspensive.. Most of the parts you can greenstuff mould (the redundant bits like icons, etc..). Also, for a look at the thunderbolt symbol, look at the old MK1 thunder armor. Those symbols are what the Emperor used in the Unification Wars.

hmm...i'm wondering if it's stupid to hack off the tops of eldar heads. it has a similar shape...or is that a stupid suggestion? haha. either way cag, i'm sure you'll come out with something awesome. that homemade codex page [as i've said before] is gorgeous !
can't wait to see how this project turns out ! :]

Im just greenstuffin the pointy bit onto the existing guard heads. That means I dont have to make the little wings on the helmet. I have ordered the parts now, so they should be with me within 8 days.

Oh, and thanks r4wr89!

If you want, the new DA lion helm wings are cheap, and a great source of wings for smaller things!

my parts have finally been delivered, and I have been busly working on them for a few hours. I have basically finnished most of the modeling, though I'm waiting for the greenstuff on the helmets to set so I cn do some carving. The veteran sergeant has been completed though:

You might not be able to tell in the front photo, but there was an imperial fist icon on the front, so I made a blank square over it and made a little gem. It does not look that good at the moment, but a bit of paint will sort it out.

A suggestion cag, on the front of the shield... Make a square (flat, barely raised from shield) with an oval or circle in the middle. Make comin off the square, rayed/wiggly sun rays. This reinforces the Roman image the Custodes are famous for, and would look hella cool!

Edit: The shield may not be suitable for this.. But if anyone else uses it I would suggest it! It's a good general motif. If you want any advice on Heraldry or such, I can help. The Custodes are based off Roman Praetorian Guard and basic Legionnaires, and Rome is my specific area of study for History currently. Hell, any help I can render, just ask.

Well, I have been busy sawing, cutting, filing and gluing and I have finally finished the actual normal custodes. I did not bother gluing any elf heads on and stuff, I just greenstuffed the point on the heads, and scupted some hair stuff on the back of the heads. Below if a photo of one of them:

And this is the entire squad:

wow....wow. haha. they look great actually. i haven't really any suggestions for you, because i'm confident in your abilities and i know you're gonna clean up the hardly noticeable flash, etc.

so definitely, excellent work. :]

i'm not all that familiar with custodes, but do ultramarines have anything to do with them? i understand why you used the honor guard models though, very regal, very intimidating :]

ps nice picture cag, haha.

I have completed the Adeptus Custode Veteran. I have also added a big base (6cm tall). For some reason gold looks all uneven on the photo, but its actually quite a smooth coat.

Damn't.. I have enough projects! Stop this before I get the urge to convert! Damn you!

But seriously, nice job. And did you use GW gold? Most of my friends who do complain of the same problem when they use it on large pieces, so it's likely just the paint.

woah! those are like, totally sweet (male ver. of paris hilton for a moment there *shudder*).

Seriously they are really cool, how did you get the gold so consistently...golden? I have trouble with that colour (and all the metallic paints) on areas larger than a weapon's blade.
