Default Taking a pic of your Mini, help for painting comp

Thought I'd lay out some basic advice for taking a good pic of your mini's to help everyone's entry.

I have done a complex diagram for you to follow:

The best way to get a clear pic of your mini is to use daylight (unless you have loads of posh gear and know what your doing!). Don’t put your mini in the window as it will more than likely be getting to much light and you will end up making your mini look a bit wishy washy.

Instead face your mini further away on a table (use of background is useful, you could print out a blue to white gradient off your printer to stand your mini on that if you wanted) so your back is to the window, and your facing your mini, (don’t block the light out though!)

I have found dullish days provide the best light, avoid direct sunlight though as that will be to bright.

Once you have set your mini on the table you need to set your camera on a flat surface. You may need a couple of books to put under it so your mini is framed right. Don’t get to close in, because as with real life you wouldn’t look at a mini 2 inches from your eye so give them a bit of space but not so much that it's in the distance!

Now make sure you have the macro setting on, with sony camera's it's an icon of a little flower I think. Set you camera on it's normal auto settings. But here is the trick... turn the flash off... focus on the mini (again with the camera in position on flat surface) then set the timer to take the pic whilst the camera is on the flat surface and let the camera take the pic without you touching it!

This is a good way for a normal person with a normal camera to get a reasonable pic that's clear and a fair representation of your mini.

Here's a good one I took of one of mine (I know most of you have seen this before it’s just an example!)

you can use this technique with a lamp or normal light but it's not as good:

^ I compressed that one a bit to much so looks worse than should do really.
