Default hobby tool section.

How about a hobby tool section? A place where we can rate hobby tools we buy. See whats good and whats not.

I like it. For a Terrain noob like me it might be a great place to learn what to use and what not to. Yes I know after 15 years you think I would have tried terrain building long ago, but I was blessed with a good gaming shop that had great senery so the need never arose. Now I have a gaming shed that is getting cleaned out and will need tables and terrain to fill it.

This is a great Idea. Since this is Relliks Idea he should start the main thread ( but thats up to him ) and maybe would could turn it into a sub forum later, with one thread for tools another for materials etc. Include pics and all.

Sub-Forums : Painting, Conversion, Modeling & Scenery, should it go there? thats where my tricks of the Trade threads at just wondering.
I already took some pics of GS,BS, sculpting tools and some other stuff just FYI

Good deal. I'll be posting a lot in that thread. I have tools out the wazoo. It helps that I use the same tools everyday in my work, and that I've been building models of one sort or another since 1971.

OKay folks. I saw someone requesting tools so I thought what better than something I use on a daily basis.

We all glue. You play with 40k models, then you have to glue.
glue can get everywhere, it can get in clothes, on hands, and even on the model wher we don't want it.

I bought a Land Raider off Ebay, and it was 100% glued togther. Sponsons din't turn. Top lens things were solid. All doors closed. and even the body was not snapped together all the way. A bit of the following chemical, and I had a brand new LR off the sprues!!! No exaggeration.

This stuff works WONDERS.

DE-BONDER (a.k.a. "Uncure") - Anyone using cyanoacrylic glue should always keep this stuff within reach. As its name implies, this chemical de-bonds parts attached with CA glue, including of course your fingers or other body parts.

This water-like product works best with fast-setting superglue, leaving virtually no glue residue. However considerable "frosting" will occur. This will be easily washed with water and soap, though if the frosting is inside a hard to reach place it becomes a lot more complicated to remove. With slow-setting or gap-filling superglue, repeated applications may be needed, especially when the glue excess is very thick. Never use it on painted surfaces, it will instantly trash any solvent or water based paint. Once again this is highly-toxic stuff that must be kept away from children.

PROS - de-bonds CA glue. Will remove stubborn paint from "ugly" models. 30 seconds on a plastic model OR metal, and all paint wipes right off! I have yet see it eat/melt a plastic model.
CONS - toxic, does not work as well with thicker CA glue. If left on Plastic models, and not washed clean, it will begin to "Frost" on the plastic, making some models a bit ugly without the paint.
IDEAL USE: to de-bond parts attached with CA glue, and use as a quick "paint stripper"
