more publicity

heya folks

personally i think 40k terra needs a bit more publicity, a few more ACTIVE members, many people sign up but do nothing here, we need more than that we need active members, that will contribute to 40kterra as a community.

i know it isnt really my place to be saying this but we need to get more ACTIVE players, somthing to encourage members to stay active and tell others.maybe some form of mini advertisements on othere websites, like the ones under posts right here on our site or somthing just explaining what our communitiy is about and maybe add some more features, because all these forums are great, but some people dont like going on forums but still like 40k. so maybe we ould do somthing to get more people or summin

i may have made a mistake or done somthing i shunt of done as if so, feel free to kill this thread

all suggestions welcome(if tis thread is useless or not my job to do please kill it or summin)

Also, a bunch of 'groups' of friends who had issues with stuff just banded together and left, including all their content was taken away from us.

We are recupperating from this loss, but we are doing fine. But Yes - I agree, we need to get some publicity going on heh~!

While I would love to give an answer... I don't think it would really be the right thing.

Suffice to say, if you think about it... they have recently disappeared and this disappearance has been publically explained. By the mods on one hand, and by one of these people on another.

Ok, i'm usually pretty silent but I'd like to point out some things you should take onboard.

People like simplicity. They don't want to read a forum with 300 different text colours of varying sizes. They don't like to see signatures taking up 3 quarters of the page. Warchild, your signature is at least 25 lines long...

Look at Warseer, they grew to that size for a reason. They're tidy, neat and professional looking.

Gawdy, bright sites don't attract people, Web 2.0. Simplicity is the key.

Your home page is stttrrreeetttccchhhing my screen on a 14" monitor. Is the side column necessary? It looks terrible and unprofessional. Like the staff havent bothered to make sure its right.

Your donate button is bright green, your rules bright red. Again, tone them down - blend them in - they don't need to be so bright.

Your forum sponsor is swallowing the page, does it need to be the most dominant thing on the site?

A vast percentage of prospective new members will see your site and make a split decision based on what they see - beggy green donate buttons, over eager advertising and awful looking harliequinesque text.

Don't take this advice the wrong way but its clearly these things that're hampering you.

Get a grip of the posting, apply sig limits, fix the errors, lose the "bit kingdom" advert thats taken over your page.

I promise you, following these tips will endear your site to far more people.

I actually think warseer is TOO big, and in fact thats why I came here b/c at the time there was a much higher percentage of active members and it felt more like a community. Thats what we're going for here, not just a forum but a community. But you're advice is appriciated.

I agree with Baron,we are not trying to be like every other 40k machine site on the net,theres enough of those out there already.I do however agree with Jez about a one thing but in the same time the site is going threw some overhauls right now and things are changing. I totally agree with Baron too.
40k Terra is something special compared to the other massive forums out there. As I've explained in the past, those sites, the clones, contain almost no personalisation, and they eventually get so big that people don't know each other on the level we all do here. I'm not claiming to know everything about you guys, but I will say, and no offence intended here, but if we follow your advice, we'll go the same way as Warseer. ALOT of members, but noone posting, strictness on the posts, everything done to the letter.

yea because warseer is just a load of random people that dont care about each other, here its different we all know each other, its a community not a talk show!!!!!
because here, you can have your file personalized without it going OTT, if the whole site was in black and white we would all be very bored, i like to talk to the people, like hairy, ive known him long time and talked to him frequently, i mean people like bro warchild, he dosent know me personally, but we talk on forums like a community should do!
we just need more people to make it more active, but we need people who are going to visit frequently!

Its things I considered myself, and I'll consider it for the redesign as well.

That's irrelevent to what I said - as are the 4 posts agreeing with the void point.
I'm not questioning the community you have here.

This is a thread about publicity, you obviously want to spread to the wider masses and become known or this thread wouldn't exist.

The changes i've suggested are nothing to do with becoming a warseer clone, (and to say other sites are cloning Warseer is absurd, warseer is stock out of the box vbulletin with a couple of minor changes. It wouldn't run with the number of changes other sites have made)

The changes are simply ways to help convert guests into members. Who then via word of mouth advetise your site...

How isnt it a point, you gave your opinion on what would make it better in your mind,and we replyed why we do or dont think the ideas are good. All we are saying is theres plenty of warseer like sites not exact clones but same feel thats all.
Just becouse a site has tones of members doesnt make them good,alot of them make you sign up before you can look around which is a cheap way to get members.

exactly bro warchild, that is what i dont like in sites like that, youve signed up, but you arent sure what youve signed up for!!!

we are a community and we want to grow as a community, but still be a community instead of loads of random peeps

in defence of Jezlad he didn't say that the site had to change its outlook/the way it is run, just the painfully bright (and haphazard) colours used where they're not needed. And the outrageously large signatures, much of the sig space is taken up by info that is basically useless since the blog system started.

If you want to direct people to things of interest then start a blog, put your links in their and stick that single blog link in your signature (like myself and Nanolathe).
