Painting Competitions - 40K Terra

Out of curiosity I was talking to someone (Mart to be exact) about when the next painting competition was going to be so I could enter. I was told that it had already been this year and there weren't anymore planned till next Feb.

So IF this is true I would like to suggest having more than one painting comp a year. If new members join in March then they'll have to wait an age to enter a competition and for those of us who fly in and out of Terra, may miss one being advertised.

I know that some may say it would devalue the competition by having more than one but I cant agree with that. Even if there are no medals awarded for other painting comps scattered throughout the year ( say one in July and November) then at least ppl have the opportunity to look, create and judge competitions on a more regular basis. If they're are only awards once a year in art and conversion comps I would also suggest the same competition format for them.

If Im wrong about there only being one a year then you have my full apology and could you please tell me the date of the next one.

There are the weekend challenges you could enter which are like mini competitions. But sadly ya you missed the big one.

and right now we are haveing the big quiz comp
i think they are having the scenery big comp next
imnot real sure of the schedule on the big comps
but there are mini comps every week

There's going to be more paitning competitions, but not.. Well.. There will be themes, goals, etc.. Not an open, submit whatever you've got laying about your desk type, if that makes sense. This has been beaten and *****ed and argued about ad nauseam, but the sad fact is some members proved they couldn't responsibly handle such freedom, so we've had to make it more regulated.

I'm more than open to suggestions as to what type, themes, and such for painting comps in the future.

I was thinking, with ID and Mart... Perhaps a tank/armor painting competition?

Thanks for telling me about the weekend competitions but I'll still campaign for the bigger competions to be held more often throughout the year.

That sounds cool Erus and Mart and ID are both v.good painters. You could always put the painting comp into categories similar to golden demon?

i think that a vehicle/ monsterous creature painting comp in say July? would be a good idea. i know that mart showed interest in participating and i would be happy to officiate as i am already part of the "COMP SQUAD".

ideas abound here.

i agree with daria's first post.

whats to stop me, for instacne organising an on the fly painting contest with no prizes? its not harming the site, not devaluing the so-called proper contests with rep and medal prizes and is giving people an incentive to do some modelling/painting.

i like the weekend challenges though frankly i find the three day period were given to work in very difficult (not in the least because i work on saturdays and sundays).

What's to stop you is an Admin issued decision that no such things will be done, on the penalty of a site ban. We had users running their own comps, and one of them proved he could not behave responsibly, so we had to nix the idea in it's entirety.

Simply put, we'll be having a competition every month at least... And, honestly, there's no sense or use having user run comps that will detract from the sanctioned ones in terms of competitiors if nothing else. There's a schedule and such being formulated now that i'm posting up for you and the staff to view and suggest D_C....

members of other forums do it all the time and their admins dont seem to mind.

thats the kind of thing im on about. if two or three mates want to have a 'contest' to help them finish a project i see no problem with it and dont see why some (Dare i say it...) draconian overheads should stop them. theyre not harming anyone or shaming the site... at least not to my knowlegde

User to user is cool and encouraged,. And it's not that we don't like the idea of user run comps.

It is just they were tried, failed miserably and several tempers were strained past the breaking point, and it has been decided that until further notice they're not on th ebooks. As allowable. What's not allowed, to be clear, is someone hosting an open entrant, all comers full fledged comp. A challenge to other users (like with Mart and Krom, I could see them challenging one another) is just fine... Just not open entry comps with the ideal of 'paint and copvnert a mini in x time' and more of 'I bet you can't paint your vehicle in x' or such...

You can try it, but that's basically just as comp. By the same token as you NOT seeing a reason why you CAN'T do it, i don't see any reason FOR it. Wait until next year, and we'll talk about letting them trickle back,.

D_C is a High Lord, which, via the new staff organization, is a MOD. He is not Administratum really, lol. and it's not that staff can host these things, don't think that. It's that Staff can help run them. It still has to go through being proposed, rules being set up, admins approval, etc...
