| Hello guys, I'm mostly a newbie starting out 40k. This is my list for my custom chapter. Before, I had a devastator squad (6 man, 4 missile launchers), but I removed it in favor for a Venerable Dreadnaught. Was that a good choice? I'm also planning to put in two Whirlwinds for the future. What other stuff should I use to fill in those gaps for 1500 pts? Maybe more troops with a different setup other than Lascannon/Plasmagun? Thanks for your input! [HQ] Chaplain Reclusiarch: Jump Pack, Bolt Pistol @ 106 pts [Elite] Venerable Dreadnaught: Twin-linked Lascannon, Missile Launcher, Extra Armor, Tank Hunter @ 170 pts [Troops] 6 Bolters, 1 Lascannon, 1 Plasmagun @ 145 pts [Troops] 6 Bolters, 1 Lascannon, 1 Plasmagun @ 145 pts [Fast Attack] Vet Sergeant (Terminator Honors) w/ Powerfist and Boltpistol, 2 Flamers, 5 Boltpistol @ 219 pts [Fast Attack] Landspeeder Tornado @ 80 pts [Heavy Support] Predator Annihilator: Heavy Bolter Sponsons, Extra Armor @ 135 pts |

| Trooper ![]() | [HQ] Chaplain Reclusiarch: Jump Pack, Bolt Pistol @ 106 pts ++ Excellent HQ. Nice, cheap, reliable. ++ [Elite] Venerable Dreadnaught: Twin-linked Lascannon, Missile Launcher, Extra Armor, Tank Hunter @ 170 pts ++ Solid Anti-Tank. Expensive perhaps, but probably worth it ++ [Troops] 6 Bolters, 1 Lascannon, 1 Plasmagun @ 145 pts ++ Simple. if expensive. ++ [Troops] 6 Bolters, 1 Lascannon, 1 Plasmagun @ 145 pts ++ Again. Consistency is good though. ++ [Fast Attack] Vet Sergeant (Terminator Honors) w/ Powerfist and Boltpistol, 2 Flamers, 5 Boltpistol @ 219 pts ++ Being a fan of these myself, excellent. Consider Plasma Pistols if facing MEQ's though. ++ [Fast Attack] Landspeeder Tornado @ 80 pts ++ Not a fan of these, but for 80pts a bargain ++ [Heavy Support] Predator Annihilator: Heavy Bolter Sponsons, Extra Armor @ 135 pts ++ Abit much anti-tank in this list, but hey whatever floats your boat ++ Overall, good list. Id probably lean toward more Assault, but thats my preferance....

| Hello guys, I'm mostly a newbie starting out 40k. This is my list for my custom chapter. Before, I had a devastator squad (6 man, 4 missile launchers), but I removed it in favor for a Venerable Dreadnaught. Was that a good choice? Newbie eh? Well then, as a person who's read the Codex: space marine dozens of times, and thought out a lot (if not played) of the traits, lemme tell ya something... best trait in the game is Cleanse and Purify, the minor disadvantages aren't that bad, so, feel free to take 1 trait... taking 2 will mean you'll have to think a bit, but it shouldn't be that bad. I'm also planning to put in two Whirlwinds for the future. What other stuff should I use to fill in those gaps for 1500 pts? Maybe more troops with a different setup other than Lascannon/Plasmagun? Whirlwinds I have never used, but, they are definatly good against horde armies (IG, Orks, 'nids) so use a few if you think they'll be worth it. As for troops... scouts are a must have, great CCW and inflitrate is soooo good. Also, consider making your tactical squads 10 man squads. Thanks for your input! your welcome! [HQ] Chaplain Reclusiarch: Jump Pack, Bolt Pistol @ 106 pts While everyone else likes this HQ, I don't. I much prefer a command squad to go with a simple chaplain... also, you can get terminor honors and save 5 points. Plus command squads are cheaper than assault squad... and inflitrate will get yo into combat just as fast as jump packs. [Elite] Venerable Dreadnaught: Twin-linked Lascannon, Missile Launcher, Extra Armor, Tank Hunter @ 170 pts Venerable dreds aren't bad... but normal ones are cheaper, in 1000pts I'd consider dropping the venerable. Also, if you really want tank hunter, I do think the dev squad you had was better. [Troops] 6 Bolters, 1 Lascannon, 1 Plasmagun @ 145 pts I don't like this and don't see why anyone would. Now thats just me. I prefer using cleanse and purify, with either melta (assault), flamers (horde) and plasma guns (shooty). Also, I like to give ALL of my sergeants termie honors and a p. fist or p. weapon [Troops] 6 Bolters, 1 Lascannon, 1 Plasmagun @ 145 pts Same as above [Fast Attack] Vet Sergeant (Terminator Honors) w/ Powerfist and Boltpistol, 2 Flamers, 5 Boltpistol @ 219 pts Same comments as r4wr89 [Fast Attack] Landspeeder Tornado @ 80 pts Not bad [Heavy Support] Predator Annihilator: Heavy Bolter Sponsons, Extra Armor @ 135 pts Good, but you already have so much tank hunting I think it might be best to get some more marine... 135 points is 9 more marine, which is a lot in 1000 points. As for expanding to 1500, I'd say termies, and a commander. Both of these units are kickass and rock hard. Commanders aren't as good as CHaplains in CC but, they are better built for lighting claws... which rock. Consider a Termie Commander to go with your termies... as that makes standard terminators pretty good in CC, something they sorely lack at the moment (but, hopefully will change like the DA). Hope you enjoy your new hobby!
