Blog Entries: 17    |  Completely lost.....and scared... Ok, wat im about to say may shock you and disgust you....prepare yourself... WATS A F******G ARMY LIST? HOW DOES ONE GO ABOUT MAKING ONE? im sorry, i read all 40k novels, play DOW with a passion, and have played 3 rounds of 40k on the TT, but im still a terrible newbie.... i just love the game, and i would like to know how to play it correctly, even if it means asking dumb questions...

| Cause you pay for it! Where most people have excel already or you can use google docs's version of excel for free! Plus adding the pts up yourself helps you know the value of scoring units and such for gameplay Plus I like doing all the math and using a spreadsheet

| We use them in the lab sometimes but rarely. I mostly program so using excel is like vacation to me! But if it was my job i wouldnt want to do it in my free time either

Blog Entries: 1 | well i still do it the old pencil and paper way, usually about 15 minutes before the game is due to start. really, you don't need all this fancy software, just sit down with a codex, a calculator and something to write with/on and start adding up. that way you get to know your dex too.

| never rely on army builder... there's so many mistakes over pts costs, unit options and such that it really isn't worth it. just grab your codex, (aka, your army book), and work it out 'the old fashioned way'!lol. cheers!

Blog Entries: 1 | of course- you can make army lists to your hearts content without actually having to own the models, but if your talking about making an army list for your small amount of models thats no problem because theres no upper or lower limit for how big a game of 40K has to be. Your best bet would be to make a combat patrol list to start with- thats basically a 400pt list with some minor changes to the force organisation choices, such as only requiring 1 Troop unit and restrictions on the more powerful models (land raiders, librarians etc)

Blog Entries: 1 | pages 77-78 of the bbb tell you how to go about choosing your force and also in most if not all dex's there's a page or two entitled "army list" that gives some guidance on writing up a list (pg 27 in codex space marines for example).

| Re: Completely lost.....and scared... Its ok i see people all the time with this problem. If you go to your local hobby shop with your codex and models they will tell you all you need to no. AND DONT USE ARMY BUILDER. the game is fun, but remember once you make one list it doesnt meen use that one every game, in diferent games put diferent thing in your army, forinstance when i go against orks i put a lot of heavy bolters in my list b/ orks have a not so decent save. |
