Default Masters of Vengeance

Yet again another fictional chapter derived in some way of the Knights, feel free to post any changes, moderate or radical, and after a few I'll repost a list that more closely matches the general consensus.

2)No Dreadnoughts

What???! No lanspeeders or dreads? my two favorite units... oh, well, your fun- er, list

Masters of Vengeance

Trait Advantage:
Suffer Not The Works Of Heretics

Trait Disadvantage:
Have Pride In Your Colours

Hate this drawback... unless its purely fluffy, never, ever, ever, take it... die standing or have faith in supscion is great.

HQ
Knight-Captain Benedictus: storm bolter, power weapon, frag grenades
=81pts

Good units... though he could use some sort of inv. save.

Knight-Commander Atlas: storm bolter, power weapon, frag grenades
=81pts

Same as above.

(2x) Command Squad Durus Custodia- 5 Marines: frag grenades, 2 meltaguns
=100pts (200pts)
Transport(x2)- Razorback: twin-linked heavy bolter, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade, pintle-mounted storm bolter
=93pts (186pts)

I suppose you like the razorbacks eh? I don't, but that's me. I would replace them with rhinos and use the extra points for more marines... these are assault squads, no? Oh, and sarge's w/ p. fists are almost mandatory in these squads. One more thing, do these marines have BP and CCWs? they really should...

ELITES
Veteran Squad Malleus- 6 Marines: frag grenades, meltagun, tankhunters
=124pts

Veteran Squad Sceptrum- 6 Marines: frag grenades, meltagun, tank hunters
=124pts

Veteran Squad Clava- 6 Marines: frag grenades, meltagun, tank hunters
=124pts
Transport(x3)- Razorback: twin-linked heavy bolter, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade, pintle-mounted storm bolter
=93pts (279pts)

Once again, I don't like Razorbacks... thats me though. Once again, I would consider rhinos, and also, perhaps making this guys "assault" squads by giving them BP and CCWs + furious charge... its a pretty good idea IMO.

TROOPS
Tactical Squad Fulmen- 6 Marines: frag grenades, plasma gun, lascannon, tank hunters
=139pts

Tactical Squad Fragor- 6 Marines: frag grenades, plasma gun, lascannon, tank hunters
=139pts

Tactical Squad Cometes- 6 Marines: frag grenades, plasma gun, lascannon, tank hunters
=139pts
Transport(x3)- Razorback: twin-linked lascannon, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade
=103pts (309pts)

Good squads... 'cept, once again, I dislike razor backs.

Tactical Squad Grando- 6 Marines: frag grenades, flamer, heavy bolter
=107pts

Tactical Squad Torris- 6 Marines: frag grenades, flamer, heavy bolter
=107pts

Tactical Squad Aequo- 6 Marines: frag grenades, flamer, heavy bolter
=107pts
Transport(x3)- Razorback: twin-linked heavy bolter, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade, pintle-mounted storm bolter
=93pts (279pts)

Good units...

HEAVY SUPPORT
Predator Annihilator Incus: lascannon sponsons, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade
=158pts

Predator Annihilator Chalybs: lascannon sponsons, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade
=158pts

Predator Annihilator Audax: lascannon sponsons, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade
=158pts

I would replace the lascannon sponsons with heavy bolters.
Total=2999pts[/quote]

Okay... very differant list. In fact, its one of the few I've seen with razorbacks... trying to be differant here maybe?

for the command and elite squads, i agree. switch razorbacks with rhinos and use the extra points for more marines. those should be close combat squads, if they arent.
heavy bolter sponsons instead of lascannons will be better, because then you can move and fire two guns instead of just one. it will also give you alot of extra points that you could use for more command or veteran marines.
this would be a challenging list to play.

no assault squads, but if you really wanted to you could take the jump packs off and stick them in a rhino, i believe that's okay. a lot of restrictions though, and i respect that. :]

Masters of Vengeance

cool. pricey infantry though, that's a bit of a downside. having taken or at least paid for the 3 point infiltration for just about every infantry model in my SM lists, i sympathize with you, they are expensive at 18 points a pop. but hey, i think most tanks will think twice before tank shocking anything of yours. :]

Trait Disadvantage:
Have Pride In Your Colours

HQ
Knight-Captain Benedictus: storm bolter, power weapon, frag grenades
=81pts

Knight-Commander Atlas: storm bolter, power weapon, frag grenades
=81pts

2 HQ's that are identical? interesting... :] i can already tell this is a fluff oriented list, as your others are [more or less, at least! haha] and yea, again, i respect that.

(2x) Command Squad Durus Custodia- 5 Marines: frag grenades, 2 meltaguns
=100pts (200pts)
Transport(x2)- Razorback: twin-linked heavy bolter, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade, pintle-mounted storm bolter
=93pts (186pts)

i feel like the dozer blade is going a bit overboard, but...is this cityfight? did i miss that? just wondering..everything else is fine though, decent multitasking forces. others might ask for an extra body for victory points, but i say 5 isn't THAT bad. :]

ELITES
Veteran Squad Malleus- 6 Marines: frag grenades, meltagun, tankhunters
=124pts

Veteran Squad Sceptrum- 6 Marines: frag grenades, meltagun, tank hunters
=124pts

Veteran Squad Clava- 6 Marines: frag grenades, meltagun, tank hunters
=124pts

redundancy is good, i think. more things to do the job even if something dies. not bad for anti-assault either, i think with the frags and the assault melta.

Transport(x3)- Razorback: twin-linked heavy bolter, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade, pintle-mounted storm bolter
=93pts (279pts)

again, i think the dozer blade is a bit unnecessary, but i always try to emphasize, it's your list and your fluff so you don't have to listen to me ! haha.

TROOPS
Tactical Squad Fulmen- 6 Marines: frag grenades, plasma gun, lascannon, tank hunters
=139pts

Tactical Squad Fragor- 6 Marines: frag grenades, plasma gun, lascannon, tank hunters
=139pts

Tactical Squad Cometes- 6 Marines: frag grenades, plasma gun, lascannon, tank hunters
=139pts

ah, the lasplas squads. in the GW forums [RIP!] they were all the rage. strangely, they just don't seem to be as popular around these parts. personally though, i think it's good, solid anti-tanking, especially with tank hunters.

Transport(x3)- Razorback: twin-linked lascannon, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade
=103pts (309pts)

see above. i never liked lascannons on razorbacks, but they're great for popping moderately armored tanks when you need to! ha. the number of razorbacks your taking around is definitely cool/very intimidating!

Tactical Squad Grando- 6 Marines: frag grenades, flamer, heavy bolter
=107pts

Tactical Squad Torris- 6 Marines: frag grenades, flamer, heavy bolter
=107pts

Tactical Squad Aequo- 6 Marines: frag grenades, flamer, heavy bolter
=107pts

nice setup, some solid anti-infantry. i like the flamer/HB combination, seems like pretty solid effectiveness if you ask me.

Transport(x3)- Razorback: twin-linked heavy bolter, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade, pintle-mounted storm bolter
=93pts (279pts)

HEAVY SUPPORT
Predator Annihilator Incus: lascannon sponsons, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade
=158pts

Predator Annihilator Chalybs: lascannon sponsons, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade
=158pts

Predator Annihilator Audax: lascannon sponsons, extra armour, smoke launchers, dozer blade
=158pts

wow, nice guns.

Total=2999pts
looks pretty solid to me...could you maybe provide a head count/tank count? thanks!

and i think the auspex is more than one point, but i think that might be a good thing to throw in somewhere! :]

-ant

*edit* i think i agree with masterofweirdness as well, have faith in suspicion or die standing or something might be a better [gamewise] choice, but then again the knights and their affiliates are pretty fluffy, no ? :]

This is like the MP list- i.e. it has its own pseudo-fluff in the Knight's Index Astartes (Crusade of Penance) but nothing concrete- I only chose razorbacks cause they can throw out a fair amount of firepower thenselves and i like the idea of a blitzkrieg...

Got the dozer blades cause i think it would be quite alarming for my opponent if the armoured column ploughed though woods etc instead of using the standard clear passes controlled by enemy firepower.

There are 66 marines and 14 tanks, all moving quite quickly with strength and range to easily neutralise anti-tank threats.

the thing about razorbacks is that they are rhinos... only 20+ points more...

Rhinos only have AV 11 front. You move 12" smoke launch. You move 6" deploy marines, rapid fire. Rhino then acts as mobile terrain.

You can't really do that with a Razorback...

Well, a couple of things jumped out at me about this list.

1: All your squads are small, and none of them have power fists. You'll really struggle against any army that can get a walker or MC into assault with your forces.

2: Your HQs are a little under-equipped, and they're functionally identical.

3: Your Preds will have to remain static to fire to full effect.

Let me suggest some reorganization.

I think that Cleanse And Purify could compliment your list nicely. More on that shortly.

Well, instead of having two characters that do exactly the same thing, how about one Knight-Captain and one Knight-Chaplain or Knight-Librarian? I'd put them in the same squad, make the squad (including ICs) 10-strong, give them a veteran sergeant with a power fist, and put them in a Rhino. If you give the Rhino a pintle-mounted storm bolter, it can still put forth a decent spritzing of fire, and you'll have a pretty respectable assault force that has enough bodies to be durable. For that matter, if you could squeeze about another 60 points out of your list somewhere, you could field a Land Raider or LRC for your Command Squad to ride in. You have enough other tanks in your army that a LR wouldn't stick out too bad.

As with the Command Squads, I'd take these three squads and turn them into two 10-man squads in Rhinos, with power fist-armed sergeants and maybe power fists in the squads. That would give you pretty respectable assault power, and a backup plan in case the meltaguns miss.

I mentioned Cleanse And Purify as a possible complimentary Trait for this list. Where I was going with that is that, with that Trait, you could take these last 3 Tactical Squads and replace the heavy bolters with 2nd flamers. These squads could then sally forth with your Veterans and use the pair of flamers to clear a path through any horde-type squads. I'd also be inclined to beef up the squads and put them in Rhinos, if for no other reason than the ability to pop the top hatch and flame out without debussing from the track. However, that one is a judgement call.

By all means, take Annihilators, but give them heavy bolter sponsons. That way, they can move and shoot with everything they have, and it makes them more widely useful, as opposed to being totally dedicated to busting tanks and MEQs. It's not like this list will suffer a lack of lascannons if you take HB-sponsons. Even with the HB-sponsons, I'm counting 9 lascannons in this army, 6 of them being twin-linked.
