Default Tournament Chaos List

Okies folks here is my first draft of the list that I am atempting to put together for my first venture into the Tourny secene in about 3 years or so. Please all comments/sugestions/crtiques are welcome.

1750 Chaos Space Marine Tournament List (Fluff to come later)

HQ

Daemon Prince - Mark of Tzeentch, Wings, Warp Time - 175

Chaos Sorcerer - Mark of Tzeentch, Wings, Personal Icon, Wind of Chaos - 185

HQ Total = 360

Elites

6x Terminators - 4x Pair of Lightning Claws, 2x Chainfist - 250

Squad 1
Aspiring Sorcerer - Bolt Pistol, Force Weapon, Bolt of Change - 85

Stratedgy:

Well I figure the DP runs around with one squad of Raptors causing havoc and either hunting down expensive elite units or tanks or Transports with tasty treats inside.

The other squad of raptors is stricktly for armour seek and destroy.

The Sorcerer Lord and the two units of Raptors can allow the Deep striking Termies to get to where they need to be depending on my opponent.

Rest of the army moves forward and lays down a torential rain of fire. Hurray for rapid fire AP 3 weapons!



That about wraps it up. What do you all think, what are its weekness that are apperent.

iwould say my only concern would be the squad# of raptors
i always try to have even #s for scoring purposes

Not sure bout the Termies. I would make them shootier, as I don't see how your gonna get them in CC.

Well the Sorcerer on Disc and both squads of Raptors have Icons so they can teleport in with out scattering. In the new Codex it states that you can Deep Strike reguardless if the senario allows it.

Any other thoughts or suggestions

Ah, I see the Icons now. Keep in mind you can't assault the turn when you DS, only shoot. That's why I opt for shooty termies when Deep Striking. Other than that, I'd say it's a fine list.

Yeah I know just means that I have to use them carefully... I still might have to re-tool the squad seeing as how I have about 5 weeks to build and paint this army and I don't have enough Lightning claws on hand and not enough to buy them and some of the other more intricle parts of my army.

Well, you could DS them behind cover close to the enemy, and hope you get within range to assault the next turn. Just don't let them get shot up.

+++ i'd give bolt of change to both of these guys + warp time. expensive i know, but it better focusses your ranged anti-tank as you won't be having to waste those godly ap3 bolters when you snipe a tank!
besides, wind has a nasty habbit of potentially leaving you out of assault range, especially against clever opponents!+++


HQ Total = 360

+++ as you'll be deep striking these guys, i suggest a heavy flamer for crowd control. you can't assault anyways the turn they come down, so you may as well wreck anything in range!
plus, a heavy flamer is THE weapon for putting a swift end to a tau or eldar 'fish of fury' manouver!+++

Elite Total = 250

Troops

Squad 1
Aspiring Sorcerer - Bolt Pistol, Force Weapon, Bolt of Change - 85

+++ swap out bolt for plain 'ol doombolt... it's simply the best power for complimenting your bolters.+++

+++ i'd honestly drop these guys - or at least 1 squad to get rhinos for all your 1k sons. without a transport, the rubric marines have alot of trouble trying to get to their targets due to their 'slow and purposeful'.+++

PS: the main armies that I will be facing are Marines of some form or another.
keep in mind that in tournaments, every army is pretty much designed to kill MEQ's. so expect to face an abundance of plasma...

you need some better mobility as those thousand sons can be agonisingly slow at times! (yes, i've seen a game where a unit barely moved 10" in total!) rhinos are your friend here as they'll at least get you 12" first turn...

some more long-ranged anti-tank would be ideal. right now you're best ranged anti-tank is only 24", only half the range of what most battle tanks can reach! try a 5-man squad or two of chosen w/lascannon for sniping. yes it's dumb, but it does work...

anyways, best of luck with the tourny and may the dice gods bless you with many 6's!

Thanks for the Ideas Stitch. If I A) had the rhinos they would be in there, B) I am attempting to Buy what I need, Build everything, and then paint everything in less than 5 weeks. The only thing from the list above that I was missing are wings for the Raptors and I have 6 sets so far so I only need 4 more.

All models, except for the Raptors have a 3+/4+ so I am not to worried about stuff that is designed to kill mine. and this is only 1750 so I am trying to keep the points down as much as I can. I will consider changing the Sorceres in the Tactical squads though.
