Default Staff Applications

Quite a simple thread to keep things easier on us. As the site grows (which it will!!!), we will need more staff. While currently not recruiting, the issue has been decided that a staff application thread would be best, so we have a ready pool of applicants when we are ready to promote/recruit. Those who we select from the pool will also be sent a set of test questions to gauge your reaction and skills in common day-to-day duties for the position you would be being considered for, and to gauge your true skill.

I don't care if you've been here a week or since day one. We promote here based less on the 'Good Ol' Boys/time spent' and more on skill. Though to be sure, if two applicants of the same spot are equally matched and one has experience on their side, that will likely be the deciding vote, but only in cases like that. Do also please note, that the badge under your name makes you no greater or lesser than the newest member with a pink name and 0 posts.

And this is for all positions, even Admin. Just, if you apply for Admin, make sure you don't waste our time, and don't be angry when you don't get it (that's a rare position, lol!). Now, answer these questions and post 'em here, and we'll keep 'em under consideration when and if we recruit. Do also note that when recruiting for a High Lord or such rank, current staff will be given preference.

1. Real Life Age(for legal purposes)?

2. Do you work for, or are employed by Games Workshop or any afiliates of Games Workshop?

3. What times (state timezone as well) are you logged on most commonly?

4. Which forums do you feel you visit the most, and/or do you think you would be most skilled at moderating?

5. How long have you been a member here at 40k Terra?

6. How long have you been involved in the hobby in general (40k collecting preferred, but feel free to mention years spent in WHFB too.)?

7. What armies do you own/have owned and played?

8. What aspects of the hobby, modeling wise, do you feel yourself most skilled at?

9. Do you have any other unique skills you could bring to the forums? (This includes graphics, programming, web advertising, etc..)

10. What position(s) are you applying for, and why do you feel you deserve them. (If a MOD job, please state subforums you wish to cover, and a seperate reason for each subforum. If multiple jobs, please state reason why for each job).

Please note: ATTTENTION CURRENT STAFF!!!! If you want to be considered for a promotion, there will be a copy of this thread for you to fill out posted elsewhere. Look for it and fill out a copy, or else you can not and will not be considered if we look to promote.

Edit: Please post replies, and replies only here. Don't ask what's open... Just apply. Certain ranks, like Librarian or such, may require a sample of your work. If that is so, you will be told.

1. Real Life Age(for legal purposes)?
15, yes, shocking

2. Do you work for, or are employed by Games Workshop or any afiliates of Games Workshop?
no

3. What times (state timezone as well) are you logged on most commonly?
On the weekdays, I'm off and on between 3:30pm and 9pm GMT 7.

4. Which forums do you feel you visit the most, and/or do you think you would be most skilled at moderating?

I find myself visiting the Painting, conversions, scenery, and modeling most often because of all the very skilled converters here! I think I could best moderate any forum except the RPG thread and WHFB threads, as I know nothing about them!

5. How long have you been a member here at 40k Terra?

Almost a year. I joined a few days before the GW forums went down.

6. How long have you been involved in the hobby in general (40k collecting preferred, but feel free to mention years spent in WHFB too.)?
I've been playing 40K for 1 1/2 years, but through this site, I've learned a surprising amount (IMHO)

7. What armies do you own/have owned and played?
I currently won 1500+ points of the mighty Black Templars Space Marine chapter.

8. What aspects of the hobby, modeling wise, do you feel yourself most skilled at?
Modeling wise? If it is just models, I would say modeling/converting, but nowhere remotely close to the likes of Hairy and D_C. If its the hobby in general, I would say I am most skilled at making scenery and terrain.

9. Do you have any other unique skills you could bring to the forums? (This includes graphics, programming, web advertising, etc..)
Um, nothing other than my skills at modding DoW.

10. What position(s) are you applying for, and why do you feel you deserve them. (If a MOD job, please state subforums you wish to cover, and a seperate reason for each subforum. If multiple jobs, please state reason why for each job)
I'm applying for a job as a moderator. I would like to moderate the General 40K discussion thread, as Dan is the only active and dedicated mod for that section. (If I understand all the forum mechanics correctly) I'd like to mod this section because 40K Terra has been and will be receiving many new members, and many of them are asking lots of questions here. I'd just like to help out.
If that doesn't work, just stick me anywhere that you need me.(aside from RPG and WHFB)

thanks.

8. What aspects of the hobby, modeling wise, do you feel yourself most skilled at?

EDIT: Oh modelling not sure if you did that intentionalyl but maybe just really good ideas having the bits and the skill is another story But if its overall like Mikal said above yer I seem to be a bit better at terrain making.

9. Do you have any other unique skills you could bring to the forums? (This includes graphics, programming, web advertising, etc..)

Mod

General: Well just because its general kind of hard to explain this one. Guess because its just overall questions and tuff.
Humour: Because I think I have a sense of humour all though others may not agree.
Space marines: Well jsut because I have the msot experiance in them of all the other armies since I collect them.
Painting: Just because I know quite a few techniques from GW magazines I might not be the best painter but I can help as much as I can.
Rules questions: I generally read the rules before playing and I think I have quite a sound reasoning with most rules except for specific rules for armies I don't know have a few codexs SW,CSM,WH,IG,Tyranids,Tau,Eldar

Site manager: Might not be very educated but have worked in sites such as these a bit

1. Real Life Age(for legal purposes)?
18 now, 19 in December

2. Do you work for, or are employed by Games Workshop or any affiliates of Games Workshop?
Nope

3. What times (state timezone as well) are you logged on most commonly?
evenings (1800-0100) GMT

4. Which forums do you feel you visit the most, and/or do you think you would be most skilled at moderating?
Rumors & News Report(inc. Previews & Reviews)
General Hobby Discussion
Specialist Games

5. How long have you been a member here at 40k Terra?
since shortly after its creation just before the closure of the GW Forum, i'm member 157, so I've been around a long time, even if there have been long periods of absence.

6. How long have you been involved in the hobby in general (40k collecting preferred, but feel free to mention years spent in WHFB too.)?
I have been involved in the hobby for 8 years now, with varying levels of activity, but have always kept tabs on everything that happens in all systems, primarily those in the 40K Universe (mostly helped by White Dwarf subscriptions). 40K has always been the system i've based myself in. Although I do have the Mines Of Moria set and have played a couple games of LotR. Also I am a regular Inquisitor player.

7. What armies do you own/have owned and played?
The ubiquitous Space marines from when I first started, though never with any real determination.
Imperial Guard since the most recent Codex came out just after the Eye Of Terror campaign, incomplete army list of 1,500points that has only ever witnessed one battle.
Chaos Space Marines, just started these guys with the new codex, I have repainted my space marine collection and am expanding it with the newer chaos models, there is no definitive target for the army except for "big". Currently estimate at around 3,500 points total when all current purchases are complete.
Inquisitor Warband with eight members - with a second one with three members and a third of at least six members in the making (slowly).

8. What aspects of the hobby, modeling wise, do you feel yourself most skilled at?
I must shamefully admit to have no expertise in any particular area and would class myself as distinctly average.

9. Do you have any other unique skills you could bring to the forums? (This includes graphics, programming, web advertising, etc..)
I am currently a 2nd year student at University studying Multimedia Visualisation with Product Design, through this I have a good grounding in the following relevant software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, 3DsMax, Adobe Première Pro.
I am also very good at proof-reading other peoples work and can often spot errors and glitches that most people miss.

10. What position(s) are you applying for, and why do you feel you deserve them. (If a MOD job, please state subforums you wish to cover, and a seperate reason for each subforum. If multiple jobs, please state reason why for each job).

Moderator:
Rumors & News Report - I like to keep a very beady eye on what's coming in the future and have also been a source of information in the past as well, such as my regular feed on what coming for Forgeworld (in truth its rarely little more than copying the Newsletter, but it still seems to be appriciated all the same). This section is also always the first place I look when I come to 40KTerra. Also, because I regularly browse lots of other gaming companies websites (i.e. Rackham, Reaper, etc, etc) I have a large field of knowledge when it comes to identifying certain things, i.e. what happened in this thread.

Graphics & Art - As a University level design student myself, I would think I'd be quite suited to overlooking this generally quite section. Also, it currently has no Mod assigned.

Specialist Games - I know its an excruciatingly quite section at the moment, but never-the-less. I'm an avid Inquisitor player, as you may have noticed with this post, and am well up to scratch on it all. When it comes to the other Specialist Games I am highly interested in but have never played Epic or BFG, Necromunda I have a passing basic knowledge of, Bloodbowl just isn't my kinda thing as far as I can tell and I've played a game or two or Mordheim many moons ago. All in all I do find all the Specialist games interesting, just some more than others!

Rolls such as Librarian would also be up my alley.

Extra Note:
My previous experience on forum positions,
Moderator of the Off-Topic sub-board for a large Urban Dead group [a proboards forum]
Chief Admin for an Ogame group (i setup and did all the formatting for the forum) [a proboards forum]

Hi, Kenny Sherman, more commonly known as Imperial Commander Gent, applying for an adeptus Custodes position, an adeptus arbites position, and librarian position.

1. Real Life Age(for legal purposes)?
17

2. Do you work for, or are employed by Games Workshop or any afiliates of Games Workshop?
I work for an independant retailer, which I will be co-owner of in less than a year.

3. What times (state timezone as well) are you logged on most commonly?
Daily at aroun d 1:00 to about 4:00 PM (MST) and any other time that I can be.

4. Which forums do you feel you visit the most, and/or do you think you would be most skilled at moderating?
I visit the Warhammer Fantasy Forums quite often and I also visit the Tzeentch forum quite often.

5. How long have you been a member here at 40k Terra?
I have been a member since November of 2006

6. How long have you been involved in the hobby in general (40k collecting preferred, but feel free to mention years spent in WHFB too.)?
I have been in the hobby for 6 years, I started with 40k and added various other games since then!

7. What armies do you own/have owned and played?
Well, the first army I owned was the tau, then I moved on to Eldar, then Blooad Angels, Create your own Space Marines, and the ones I currently own are Dark Angels, Imperial Guard, and Thousand Sons. For Fantasy I have Empire and Tomb Kings, though I have dabbled in just about every army there. For Lord of the rings I have Dwarves and Minas Tirith, both at over 1000 points.

8. What aspects of the hobby, modeling wise, do you feel yourself most skilled at?
My best aspect modelling wise would have to be some of the conversions I come up with and the uniqueness of many of my models. Sadly, the painting hardly ever serves that work justice.

9. Do you have any other unique skills you could bring to the forums? (This includes graphics, programming, web advertising, etc..)
Well, I work with computers daily, and if there is a problem I cant fix, I know several people who are webmasters for various companies and various others who I can get help from.

10. What position(s) are you applying for, and why do you feel you deserve them. (If a MOD job, please state subforums you wish to cover, and a seperate reason for each subforum. If multiple jobs, please state reason why for each job).
I am applying for and Adeptus Custodes job because I have every codex and army book for each warhammer game and have in-depth knowledge of all the rules.
I am applying for the Adeptus Arbites job because I read almost every thread and would just like to contribute a little more to make sure our rules and policies arent violated.
I am applying for a Librarian position because I have some very interesting article Ideas I am coming up with and I would just like to contribute more to the forums!

10. What position(s) are you applying for, and why do you feel you deserve them. (If a MOD job, please state subforums you wish to cover, and a seperate reason for each subforum. If multiple jobs, please state reason why for each job).

i am applying to be mod over the imperial guard section, because i know alot about guard and i feel the guard section could do with some help, not only in the helpfull department, but in the orginization department. ( i will also offer free beer on dafts tab)

out.

1. Real Life Age(for legal purposes)?

I`m 19 years of age.

2. Do you work for, or are employed by Games Workshop or any afiliates of Games Workshop?

No.

3. What times (state timezone as well) are you logged on most commonly?

Way too often, GMT+2 between 8 AM to noon and 6 PM to 4 AM

4. Which forums do you feel you visit the most, and/or do you think you would be most skilled at moderating?

Visit? I`m a forum junky so i go through all the active threads i can find, though i have a higher level of interest for WIP`s, rumors, tactica, lists, battle reports, dow and offtopics.

5. How long have you been a member here at 40k Terra?

I`m an official member since the winter of 2006.

6. How long have you been involved in the hobby in general (40k collecting preferred, but feel free to mention years spent in WHFB too.)?

I`ve been thrown in the middle of the warhammer univers somewhere around 2004 and i`ve managed to turn it into an addiction at the end of 2006 I simply consider it the best sci-fi univers available (and i`ve went through quite a few before this one).

Sadly i can`t brag about owning thousands of points worth of minis, actually i can`t even claim to own a single mini without breaking my 'bring ya no useless lies here' code Certain bighearted 40kTerra citizens have decided to change that fact in the near future though.

I read every single piece of text related to 40k i could get my hands on though :P

7. What armies do you own/have owned and played?

I played chaos and necrons won both times As far as owning goes, please rever to the above entry.

8. What aspects of the hobby, modeling wise, do you feel yourself most skilled at?

Modeling? I`ve yet to model a single mini yet but people seem to be pleased with my advices so far. Call it luck, intution or common sense but it works.

9. Do you have any other unique skills you could bring to the forums? (This includes graphics, programming, web advertising, etc..)

I`m ashamed to say i`ve forgoten everything coding related as i posses the secret superhuman power of ultrafast skill deletion.
Seriously, i went from top of my school to first day student in 2 months. And i haven`t touched Photoshop in more than 2 years so... It`s sad, but i don`t let it get me down

10. What position(s) are you applying for, and why do you feel you deserve them. (If a MOD job, please state subforums you wish to cover, and a seperate reason for each subforum. If multiple jobs, please state reason why for each job).

Whatever you find me apropiate for.

I`d gladly embrace the work of a mod for the general, hobby, tactica offtopic forums.

Why? first of all i will not state seperate reasons for each subforums because that`d mean simply rewriting the same few lins 5 or so times.

Now, back to the reasons, first off i`d like to be a mod because there still are people that break the rules every now and then.

Second reason would be the fact that i think i`d be great for the job. I have the habbit of treating people in the understanding and helpfull fashion i`d want them to treat me I`m quick to admit and correct my mistakes and i bother to read the last 5-20 entries in a thread when i`m faced with an ambiguous post.

I`ll make sure to contact people via PM for any eventual problem rather than simply expecting them to notice the moderation on their own or worse, threaten them with sever mesures when they fail to notice a deleted post

A level headed atitude and a non-aggresive but serious, simple and crystal clear explanation goes a long way.

I`m completely capable of giving anyone the benefit of the doubt (since i simply don`t belive in being completely right or wrong all the time)

Well, i would have more to say and typos to shoot down but it`s rather late and i`ve got posts to read and some school projects to finish (yeah, my university belives in giving people lots of things to do beyon the lot of things they have to learn).

PS In case i get back into html, data bases, c++, php, java script or even photoshop for whatever reason i will make sure to let you guys know

I am 56.

2. Do you work for, or are employed by Games Workshop or any afiliates of Games Workshop? NO

3. What times (state timezone as well) are you logged on most commonly?
I am in the eastern time zone. Log on from work (Sun/Wed) from home the rest of the week.

6. How long have you been involved in the hobby in general (40k collecting preferred, but feel free to mention years spent in WHFB too.)? I have been collecting and painting minitures since the 70's. I am more of a collector than a gamer. I do run 40K tournaments for a local convention every year. I am Great River Games and was a member of GAMA and the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design for many years.
I have designed games and worked for some of the old "board wargame" companies in the past.

7. What armies do you own/have owned and played? I have a very large IG army, also dark angels, blood angels, orks, choas SM, TAU, and lots of Warhammer fantasy armies.

8. What aspects of the hobby, modeling wise, do you feel yourself most skilled at? I am fairly good painter (not golden demon quality), I have done conversions of vehicles for many armies (for others). Scratch build terrain.

9. Do you have any other unique skills you could bring to the forums? (This includes graphics, programming, web advertising, etc..) I did build a web site but a very simple one years ago for Great River Games.

10. What position(s) are you applying for, and why do you feel you deserve them. (If a MOD job, please state subforums you wish to cover, and a seperate reason for each subforum. If multiple jobs, please state reason why for each job).

I will do what ever the Emperor asks of me to make this the best site on the web.

Gramatical Correction? I pride myself on knowledge of the English language and its usage. If I saw something that didn't make sense/the usage of "u" etc, I would PM the person, and edit the post.
Also, I have experience in modding forums, having managed some before.

Moderator Of -
Roleplayer's Guild: I love roleplaying, and I think this forum is lacking care and attention (Aww, negelction.) I would like to moderate this section because I think with me being active, (No offense intended here Erus) but Rp's could be kept alive and going, rather than other problems interfering.

General Talk: This forum is often, just killing people with spam. Though yes, I know, posts do not count here, but often the slight post slips past the mods. Also, it would save Erus the trouble of ridding the area of those pointless posts. =]

Thanks, much appreciated if anyone actually takes time to read this.
