Independent character

Wargear: Hydras Breath, Viper's Kiss, Melta Bombs, Frag Grenades, Primarch Artificer Armour.

SPECIAL RULES

Hydra's Breath: A unqiue pistol crafted by master smiths of Mars, this pistol is of the long lost Shenlongi pattern, though modified. In this respect, the advanced coolant and supression systems have been retrofitted and rewired to deal with the unique upgrade of this Plasma pistol.

Rather than single lances of concentrated power, the Shenlongi systems have been enhanced, ad couplings upgraded to where the weapon fires a small Plasma blast. In game terms, rather than one model being hit, the targeted model has the small blast template placed over it, with no scatter dice roll, and partials being wounded on a 5+.

Viper's Kiss: A sword crafted by Vulkan of the Salamanders to Alpharius' specifications, it is a weapon that singularly demonstrates the Primarch of the Alpha Legion's combat philosophy. Built to the dimensions of a huge Rapier of ancient times and fitted with inbuilt pits to continuously spread a deadly poison over the blade, this was a weapon designed for killing an opponent not honourable combat.

Counts as Master-Crafted Power Weapon with the Poisoned special rule- wounds on a 4+ unless the to wound roll needed is lower.

Primarchs Artificer Armour Grants a 2+ armour save. No one quite knows where this beautiful set of plate Alpharius wears came from, though it is unique to his brothers suits in that is is segmented and articulate, granting him a freedom of movement nigh unparalleled, and giving rise to his amazing speed and dodging ability in combat.

Ultimate Infiltrators: One unit of marines from either the elites or troops FOC section in an army lead by Alpharius may opt to enter play via the reserves rules but the player may chose from which table's edge they appear from. I.e. a unit of Space marine veterans in a army lead by Alpharius opts to deploy in this manner when they become available they may come from the opponent's side of the table of any edge they so choose as long as it is passable.

Dodge: Alpharius can dodge bullets at point blank. This uncanny ability confers a +3 invulnerable save.

Master of Deception: Alpharius commonly used "dirty tricks" and of such strategems to achieve victory. Before the battle begins secretly select 1 of you enemies troop choices, this squad contains a covert member of the alpha legion, a bribed/corrupted member, or are sabotaged in some other ingenious manner. At the beginning of any of your opponent's turns you may activate this trap. (The squad may NOT be locked in CC when you do this though). The selected squad takes 2 automatic S4 AP- hits, armor saves as normal. The selected squad counts as pinned for the remainder whether they take any casualties or are fearless. If they are assaulted in this turn they count as at I1. At the beginning of the next turn they take a morale test, if they fail stay pinned, if they pass they act normally for the rest of the game (Fearless units must test too as they aren't exempt from confusion, often they are more susceptible).

Hydra Dominium: Alpharius encouraged his officers to think for themselves and even made them lead without him to guide them for extended amounts of time. This superior training give every squad leader under Alpharius +1 Ld to a max of 10 ld. To represent these occasional disappearances Alpharius starts in reserve and only enters on a 4+ despite the turn number it may be.

The First is Last: Alpharius has an undying need to prove himself in the eyes of his brothers. If facing Space Marines he and his entire army gain the "Preferred enemy" Special rule.

Hungers for Glory: In order to prove that his Legion is the best that the Astartes has produced Alpharius has been known to allow the enemy time to prepare their defences in order that when the Alpha Legion does crush them it will be at the enemies strongest moment not their weakest.
Opponents of the Alpha Legion can re-roll failed to hit ranged attacks for the 1st turn.

Serpent Guard: Alpharius may possess a body guard comprising of the Honour Guard squad, as per Codex: Space Marines(pg51) who have the Infiltrate special rule and deploy on the battlefield without Alpharius- once Alpharius enters from reserve he is immediately placed with the Serpent Guard.

Gave Alpharius I.7 because his well documented dodge ability would suggest he has extraordinarily quick reflexes even for a Primarch.

To represent this I would include the fact that the Alpha legion should always sets up first and goes second during the first game turn...then reroll at the beginning of turn two, to decide who goes first for the remainder of the game

You guys like this rule? The wording confusing at all? The concept is sound? I dunno myself...I like it I guess but I want more opinions






Guys think Alpharius needs another nasty trick? Maybe to help him in an actual melee, like dishanorable fighting? A knee to the groin, eye gouging, ect... maybe give him another subtle edge?

...then again he's already faster than the rest of his brothers and because of his poison special rule he can wound even Mortarion on a 4+, I cant imagine what other dirty trick we could give him without him becoming unbalanced....but then again i've only just woken up and im NOT a morning person
