Default Superheavies

Hey Guys,

I was wondering...

There is a constant clash of the use of Superheavies

The question:
Why invest 500+ points into one tank when it can be used for 50+ guardsmen and weaponry...?

So who has have success with either, or both?

your thoughts?

i think the 50 guardsman + weaponry is a better buy pts wise
but the superheavy looks great on a table

i dont think a whole platoon of men could fit under that template
just think of the heavy weapons those men could take to knock out that super heavy

even more appropriately, compare a Baneblade to 500pts worth of Heavy Weapons Platoon.

Hey man this was why apocalypse was created... TAKE THEM BOTH to better crush the enemies of the Imperium! Superheavies are sweet but they cant score so 50+ guardsmen might work better there.

Superheavies also are psychological weapons. Your opponent will have to divert a lot of effort to kill them off, and if he doesn't, they are gonna **** his day up royally.

Yea what Erus said, that is the only reason why Im taking a Baneblade.

I figured it would be the perfect diversion from the two other Leman Russes that I am sending out in my 2k list for a tournament that is coming up.

Not much to add, mostly been said.
One thing I like about superheavies is to watch all the cool carnage it can create.
Sure it MAY not be as good as some other things efficiency wise for the same points value, but YOU HAVE A SUPER HEAVY NOW!
Watching 50 guards killing 50 guards is normal.
Watching a Baneblade or Warhound totally SNUFF OUT 50 guards is awesome.

Can super heavies (IE BANEBLADE) be fielded in a NON-APOC game and if so are the GW (non FW) rules for them in non apoc games?

i didn't think they could. still don't

and yeah, imo the best reason to take a super heavy is cool factor. the platoon may very well be more effective but the 'blade is just sooo much more awesome to look at and make vroom -vrooom and kabooom noises with

i dunno... if that 1 superheavy gets to shoot even once with all those horrible templates (have you guys actually seen the size of the baneblade template? insane!) it can wreak havoc on infantry units and it will draw fire like no ones business

personally, i think the baneblade is udnerpriced considering the weapon it has. ive played a few 2 vs 2 10,000 point games using 3 baneblades (my 1 and my firends 2 + his 15 leman russes) and the baneblades are insanely good against infantry

ork and tyranid horde armies dont stand a chance

Hmmm...all good arguments here. As a total Apocalypse nut, I have seen all the above. Now, I personally lean towards the super heavies for actual use rather than cool factor. yes, 500+ points (or in my case 750, I don't do baneblades, I am a HUGE Titan fan though!) buys a loty of guard, but as previous arguments have said, drop a 10" template and you'll be sending 80% of that formation packing to say hi to the Corpse Emperor(That's right, I said it!!!). and then that isn't counting Vulcan Mega Bolters, Demolisher Cannons, etc (and lets not forget "D" Class weapons!).

My overall thought is take the Baneblade. Odds are you will come up against Superheavies yourself, and that would be good to have around (sorry, 50 guardsmen ain't gonna stop a rampaging Titan). One thing you can look into is the "other" superheavy tanks: The Shadowsword (I see one of those...I kill it quick...bad juju for my Titans), Stormblade, Stormsword, and Macharius. I am pretty sure all those are generally cheaper than a baneblade, and in the case of the Shadowsword (in my humble opinion) it can do more against superheavies.

Yes you can run with Super Heavies in Tournys, granted they are specialized Tournys that normally go under the name of Iron Man Tournaments, but still...

As for throwing them on the Field, they are amazing. I have a few Apoc. games under my belt now and my Stormblade has barely been scratched. With the new rules in Apoc for shooting at super heavies they are insanely hard to kill.

Not to mention how many freaking traitorous marines are killed when that huge plasma cannon of doom bears down on them.

God I love my Gurad!

Yep, I agree with servo...I fragged 17 SM models (including Supremem Grand Master Azrael and St. Celestine) with ONE salvo from my Turbo Laser on one of my Warhounds. I can only imagine what happens when I plop my Reaver down....*drool*

I don't know i was at my local GW and the staff had a Apoc battle and the manager lost 40 marines in one blast or was it a flame template i'm not sure.
