Default deathwatch kill team army

I have the pdf rules for death watch kill teams, and I was thinking of making a death watch army. I could use tactical squads and just upgrade every model to a kill team vet, add some attack bikes or land speeders, use either of the inquisition armies as allies (for the inquisitor and assassins) and wala... my very own Ordo Xenos army list. Has anyone tried this? Or do you have any insight to the pros and cons of this army idea?

You could make a post in the Rules Development section about making a Deathwatch list.

**raises hand** thankyou! thankyou so very much for planting yet another crazy modelling idea in my already over-extended mind! that's just exactly what i needed!!! **lowers hand**

seroiusly though, i think you've just hit on the perfect way to get an ordo xenos army. the only drawback i can think of off the top of my head is the points you'll be shelling out to upgrade a marine to a deathwatch vet. it'll be even more expensive if you start throwing in special ammo as well. luckily you'll be able to add in a couple of squads of inquisitorial stormtroopers to spread the cost a bit.

Hairy,
The troops will be expensive but no more than grey knights. The same cost you get a deathwatch marine with kraken rounds (now tau aren't the only guys with 30" range) And drop pods just make the list evil, very evil. Modeling ideas, and other forms of madness is slowly infecting my brain....

Have you seen the deathwatch metal bits? here

Deathwatch just aren't the same without those cool shoulderpads.

The shoulder pads and the awesome guns do make the models. I'm thinking that scout heavy bolters would look great on these marines too.

it easily possible! i'd try the following set-up;

parent army: space marines w/trust your battle brothers trait
- libby or captain...
- deathwatch kill-team allied HQ

elites;
- only real allied choice is the daemonhunter =I=. this guy gets the psycannon/bolts options which are also heavily used by the ordo xenos due to the high number of psychic aliens out there!
- dreadnoughts

troops;
- tactical squads

fast attack;
- perhaps assault squads w/out jump packs loaded into drop pods?!

heavy support;
- devastators w/4 heavy bolters (if your opponent is a very sporting fellow, perhaps he/she would allow you to pay the extra pts to upgrade your shells to include the hellfire ammo + suspensors!)

the thing is, the deathwatch don't include any vehicles beyond rhinos, drop pods & tunnelers... they're simply a bunch of space marines! while the idea of say a bike squad and assault squads has been floated about, the basic premise originally concived is that the deathwatch marines are a purely infantry force who rely on their squad upgrades or else nearby support to achive their objectives...

cheers!

See I was thinking of doing the Witch hunters as the parent list, and use inducted marines as allies. You could use storm troopers as a strike team to back up the marines, etc.

Granted the Death Watch have no major support vehicles, but is to stop me from fielding the exorcist tank as a death watch only vehicle. I was thinking of a tank with a turret cannon, something like an ion cannon, or rail cannon (convert the Tau bits to fit). I remember seeing an adeptus Machanicus army in a white dwarf a while back that had cool converted tanks that counted as leman russ battle tanks. It would work fluff wise, since there is not much forbidden fluff for the death watch and again it would awesome to convert (Hey Hairy-wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

of course if you use one of the =I= lists as the parent you will have access to the orbital barrage to offset the lack of static heavy support. and it's fluffy as hell

Forgot about the barrage. Also you could use assassins. Keep having the story of how the vindicare assassin blew up an entire gargant by himself. Well I think I will have to make a list just for the hell of it.

Ive been kicking around the idea of taking a DW kill team along with my sisters... Ive heard "horror" stories of DW kill teams killing 3-4 times their own worth in points every match.

i suggest the daemonhunters simply for the psycannon which the witch hunters don't have access to... the deathwatch & ordo xeno inquisitors especially do use the psy technology almost as much as their daemonhunting counter-parts!
also, while their gear may more ex*****ve, the daemonhunter armoury at least lets you give your inquisitors a shot at holding out in an assault for a turn or two... witch hunter inquisitors simply get their faces beaten in as at best they have a power toy or eviscerator. (thunder hammers on the other hand are worth their weight in gold as they at least bring stuff down to I1 also.)

a 'counts as' russ or exorcist would make a sweet basis though like you said for a mechanicus explorator support vehicle!
or you could just go all-in and make it an apocalypse army;
- the deathwatch & inquisitional units
- doctrined guard to represent the skittari legions & funky support vehicles of an explorator fleet.

cheers!

Hmm... I like it... as long as its fluffy =/
Though that does entail NOT using too many deathwatch guys, because the more there are the less fluffy it is.

Oh and keep in mind you'll be out numbered
