| Just a sudden question... I can understand the Ordo Xenos not having Chaplains as standard in their army, unless you take the rare and venerable Deathwatch. But why does the Ordo Malleus, who makes extensive use of the Grey Knights, not use them? Game play wise I could see the balance issues... But fluff wise... What the heck? They are the purest, and staunchest of the Emperors believers... Why no Chaplains, even if they are rare as heck. |

| My guess is that the Cult of the Emperor is not part of their indoctrination. They are completely seperate from the the regular space marines and so their organization is different. Regular space marine loyalty may be brought into question, and so chaplains remain a part. You cannot question the Grey Knights however and besides, maybe they know something you don't.

| I never really saw the Chaplains as enforcers of loyalty. More as embodiments of the zealot of faith. They may indeed follow a different indoctrination, and exclude the cult of the Emperor. But one thing is very sure. They are utterly convinced the Emperor is a divine being, so why no Chaplains. I don't remember seeing in the fluff as the purpose of the Chaplains being solely to ensure loyalty. I may have to try and model a Grey Knights Chaplain, just for jollies. |

| Possibly because Space Marine Chaplains teach a faith that is, for the most part, heretical. Space Marines DO NOT believe in the divinety of the Emperor, they simply believe that he was a great man (a REALLY great man), and so great is he, that he is worthy of their praise. I bet the Grey Knights don't believe this as they work with the Ordo Mallues.

| the grey knights do have a number of chaplains background-wise... (as stated, it only makes sense considering the nature of their enemy!) however, rules-wise it would be horrific to contemplate what 'litanies of hate' combined with S6 power toys would do! also don't forget that the main idea is to make grey knights play as differently as possible from 'normal' space marine forces... (which is why they get no transports/drop pods, bikes and other such silliness!) cheers!

| Extremis Diabolus ![]() ![]() | I just assumed that, to a normal Space Marine, a Grey Knight would be like a Chaplain, and thus they don't have them themselves.

| the age of insects ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i'm probably wrong, but aren't grey knights already incredibly zealous? from what i've read, GK have to go through a lot more rituals and training than a standard space marine has to, which is definitely saying something..but yea, aren't GK already super zealous/devoted to the emperor? i'm not sure if i'm getting the right point across, lol -ant

| Hmmm... interesting. They may be slightly pointless, as there's nothing as pure and zealous as a Grey Knight, so having a chaplain is slightly unnecessary... Though it could just be a balancing issue (A Grey Knight mixed with a Chaplain... really, really nasty!). I know I wouldn't want to fight one!

| ah now the ball is in my court. ..the scar and tatoo talk to me they tell me things. the grey knights do have chaplains as seen in the novel Grey Knights by Ben Counter. He leads the Grey Knights in their "religious movements" such as the litainies of faith, and so on and so forth. as a matter of fact in the novel the chaplain is in charge of one of the largest shrines of the Ordos Malleus. He is even the one that leads the brethern of fallen grey knights to the final resting place deep in the vaults of Titan. thats the fluff game wise its probably to keep the grey knights as different from the space marines as much as possible.
