Default brick wall tutorial

Step 1) First pick out the material your going to use for your wall, im using a scrap piece of foamcore.

Step 2) Next is to cut and shape it how you want

Step 3) Now since im spraying it with black primer im going to use this

woodland scenics foam putty real good stuff. its made to provide a "skin" over exposed foam, once applied you will want to wait at least a hour to dry( another good thing about this is that it dries really quick ). making sure you have covered all the foam areas, you can use your finger or x-acto knife like i like to do.

Step 4) Now for all you aspiring masons/bricklayers time to get your brick. what i like to use is those subscription cards you get in magazines. they have just the right thickness to pop out off the wall, so cut them into strips

it doesnt matter if there even or not then cut them into small rectangular shapes

Step 5) Now once the foam putty has dried you can start your brick pattern using elmers or white glue. your going to have to cut some of your rectangle cards in half to fit at the ends, when done with each row go over it with more glue to keep the ends of the card from popping up, and when your done it should look something like this

now for the other side

Step 6) when done base coat it and glue it to your base.

Step 7) Time to paint, im using codex grey as my foundation, then a drybruch of fortress grey, space wolves grey, bleached bone, then skull white.

Then add the final details to your base and your done. enjoy

This is great. I've never done much with bricks and foamcore, as I always use a pencil to score the lines, but never finish for my lack a patience. Now here is an alternative!

do you think i could use this method to make a castle with cardboard(ie use the card board and a lot of paper grey primer and touch up paint as needed) it has been my dream for a long time to have a hand made castle terrain piece and then to scale it up cut it in half and have the inside of the castle as a 3 story board with slides and stairs . and I know castle first

Ha ha, really good Rellik, though I have to admit I was dubious at how convincing it would look as I was reading through! I was wrong to doubt, as "it does exactly what it says on the tin" and looks like a brick wall! Thanks, this is very useful!

That would work...... for a short time. IMHO something more substatial like Molded castle walls would stand up to the rigors of gaming. Relliks Walls would def hold up for a short while and wold be cheap but if you plan on gaming more than 2-3 times on it I think it would break down and ruin the hard work to make one. PM me if you really want to build a castle and I'll show you some sites to help.

I say this so I don't threadjack this awesome tut!!! for the Rellik

Non sense!

Dont buy into that over priced molded resin stuff! As long as you build your walls with something like foam core and not cheap card board your walls will stand just fine. Just make sure your foundations are sturdy. reinforce and/or pin your weak points of structure, and finish it all off with a couple coats of matt varnish and it should last the test of time. With proper care of course.

I've been playing on foam core scenery at my local gaming shop for years! Most of the stuff there was donated/used over 10 yrs ago back when i was still a kid. Paint will chip over time, edges will become worn, but the same will happen to molded scenery without the proper care.

If anything I'd be more heart broken over losing a peice of scenery I shelled out a bunch of cash for, rather then a peice of scenery I made from scratch.

HUMMMM Maybe Im just heavy handed......I seem to break most stuff so Its possible.

I was however thinking of pointing him to castlemolds.....still a money saver and DIY but without all the outragous prices. I have had mine for years and enjoy them still. I built a 3D dungeon for a friend of mine and when something breaks....I just make another!
