But make less sense fluff wise for the Chapter... We've no special encounters/campaigns against chaos, but we DO have such against Orks (hence the suggestion of Ordo Xenos and Death Watch Kill tems) and encounters with the lost SM legion (hence Hereticus). No tie in for Ordo Malleus though.

I'm a firm believer in self-sufficiency, and believe SM would rather have their own pilots they can call on, rather than running back to any particular Ordo for anything.

Ordo Xenos - We've dealt with Ork Waaaghs before, so a fair number of the chapter could be working with Deathwatch kill-teams or could be deathwatch vets.

Ordo-Hereticus - We're an SM chapter with a titular base in the Sol system, and they are tasked with internal policing. We might do well to keep on their good side.

Ordo Malleus - They deal with Daemons and other threats that SM "couldn't possibly comprehend". If they needed us for anything, why do they have the Grey Knights? Sure, if we cross paths while on our way to kick Ork ass, we might help them out, but as regular allies (emphasis on regular), I don't think so.

Hmm... true enough bit about the Malleus.
However, I do consider being close to Terra as being tied into more anti-Chaos-y, just because they've been the only major thing that has threatened Terra before, and the black crusades are getting deeper and deeper towards Terra every time (which is also more of a Malleus thing than Hereticus)

Ummm.. The whole Necrons on Mars thing is PURELY conjecture pup. Purely conjecture and fanboy ideas. Whilst I myself liek the idea, it's not cannon, so you can't exactly try to argue canonical fluff back statements with it.

Many staffers support the idea, but it's basically a "oh it'd be cool if" and "this will create a lot of mystique" type of support.

It's never been explicitly stated, or even solidly hinted that those rumors were canonically true, so meh.

So yeah, what Erus said.

But anyway, even so, Mechanicus is still working for Terra are they not?
While Abaddon slaughters his way closer to Sol every few hundred years?

His implication in the post was that the Necrons had threatened Terra... Goign by the 'dex the 'crons were there LONG before the Emperor had even unified earth.

also, wouldnt guard come with any other inquisition order? as inducted people? or just 'this planet is a recruiting ground so we also support it and its regiments.'

Guard could be with any =][= order I guess. However, it is less a 'we can't, and more 'who are we most likely to' be allied to.

ahhh I voted for Imperial Guard cause I mean come on MArines and Guard are peas in a Pod!!! Drop Pod that is!

Anyways they are the perfect combination and balance Guard = numbers and fire power SM= CC and strenght

After reading what followed my post...and thinkin about it...Steve's right...as we ARE SM we are allowed to ally with ANY other Imperial force...so yes as it would be nice to say, "OK we have this force as allies for game purposes(and a ready built allied army)" there is nothing that says we wouldn't be able to field say my SWs with the force or even Steels IG...or any other Imperial players force...if in fact we needed them for a massive APOC battle of say 50K in points?....
