Default Models

Once we've decided on the chapter colors, banners, iconography and such, there are a few other important things to decide.
Are the models going to be truescaled?
What kind of bases will the models have?
What else?

Good point! Now we're thinking on a broader level. Mikeel bring up a very valid point with the truescaling and such.

As this army will go to Erus' shop, we would want it top knotch. Does this mean we'll truescale? What do you think Erus? Time for a vote? If we go truescal, we can all convert them long before we have the color scheme decided on. Thanks to D_C, we all have the mens to do it also.

As far as bases go, we should decide on a proper basing for a uniform appearance. Maybe a poll for this as well with a few different basing themes?

Personally, tutorial or no tutorial, truescaling scares the bejesus out of me. i have never once used greenstuff, done pinning, or repositioned anything in 14 years of the hobby.

i'd vote no, simply because i think if it isn't quite done right, the army is going to look very disjointed!

Also a valid point. Not every modeler will be comfortable with truescaling.

and we couldn't really have a DC size company captain at the head of every company, could we? *shifty eyes*

But really, those who are comfortable with truescaling can elect to do it (for captains, chaplains, sergeants and the like), and those who aren't can elect not to. In the end, we'll have some taller marines and some smaller ones, just like in real life.

I wouldn't see a problem with that. After all we are all different...
It would bring a little flavor to the models as well.

if true scaling was given the go ahead (like we could stop you anyway ) then i'd suggest that the true scalers don't take it as far as D_C's marines. After all we dont want a dozen marines or more who a half again taller than the rest, make it more subtle so they're at most only a head taller than the 28mm average.

true. I just have this vision of the chapter master towering over the rest of us for some strange reason. But yeah, the smaller scale truescaling would be more than sufficient.

i like the look of truescaling and if we have an army of varied looks it will add variety and spice to the 40k Terra army.

true, but then again so would just some extra converting

if some are truescaled some are not it will look akward with some squads much bigger.
true, some astartes would be taller then others but not 1'6'' taller, which it seems like truescaled.
i think we should be uniform when it comes to scale, and because some people couldnt do truescale, noone should.

the question of uniformity also brings up basing. what kind of bases are we going to have? grass? snow? ash waste?

most people have grass flock so i would go with that.

hence why truescaling could be restricted to company captains and such, but if such is the councils ruling, far beit from me to question.

Normal scale, or True scale if you feel like you can effectively pull it off without making your marine look like he's in a completely different scale all together.

It would look incredibly odd to have normal marines, and then one "normal" marine with termy legs and arms

People who want to truescale:
Just make a SECOND ONE truescaled. Make the Normal Scale one first though.

Basing: well we are TERRA/N... so white-grey stone masonry to represent the old architectural relics?

I like the marble bit.

As far as truscaling... Perhaps have it just a lucky few spread through out the units? And there is more than D_C's termie insane way. Look at Hairys. That is well within the realm of possibility for height variance. Matters not to me though.

Well I encourage everyone truescaling to make a normal one anyway,
just in case.
EDIT : i meant make a normal one in addition to truescaled.

I concur. The base should be marble or stone of some type.

Send that to me some how so I can hear it, third time someone suggested that for an SM theme song.
