LOL
gent we fielded almost the same slow armies
steve what a great map
i dont think we will be in range for several turns
that will give us time to manouver
ill post tactics later

Tactics: considering the field isnt very wideand niether one of us is set for ranged combet
ill form the 8 tacticl squads into a moving battle line of 2 battle columns
(maybe pausing a turn or 2 when the missle launchers are in range)
the chaplain will join the Assault squad but move slowly behind the 2 columns
(if the scouts get killed off they will jump forward with the teleport homer)
1 pred on each side and dread in the middle
and the scout squads advancing ahead in one big push
with the reserve delay and my reroll
ill wait as long as possible
and when lysander finally comes in with his 9 man termi squad
so will the rest of the Terminator Phalanx: 30 assault terminators
40 termis total will teleport into battle on one roll
then this will get bloody and ugggly

Um, this battle is actually really cool fluffwise!!!!!!! Souldrinkers versus Imperial Fists!!! In case you didn't know, rom, the souldrinkers are a successor chapter of the imperial fists and they were deemed traitor excommunicatus! This is actually really cool and I am horrified by all those terminators! I only brought 10! This will be one bloody bloody game!

Edit: Tactics
My tactics for this game will be to simply fight a semi-long range firefight with him, making his scouts a top priority to kill so that terminator assault squads dont get into my back field quickly and the to swarm and counter-attack any enemy units that do come in. Basically I fight the long ranged firefight as he advances and then charge with my battle line to deny him charging bonuses. The added punch of my assault squads should help, but as I pointed out, this will be an extremely bloody battle.

Wow... this is a tough one to judge.

To me I think it bassically comes down to Termies with Lightning Claws vs. Assault Squads.

Gent although lacking true Long Range AP does have enough Melta, plasma, and meltabombs that sense there is only a very sparse amount of armour on the opposing side that he should have no problem with them. On the other side his Dev. Squads are armed with H. Bolters. Against Marines I think you should have gone with a slightly different weapon here. I beleive these will be wasted points. Same goes for the Scouts. Try Sniper Rifles to see if you can't cause some pinning.

As for WR list... well that is a crap tone of Termies, but they are totally geared for assault. Sense they can't do anything the turn they deep strike in that is a lot of plasma/melta goodness comeing there way. If the Scouts stay alive and you are able to hone in on their Teleport Homer than that increases your chance of winning greatly. (as a side note your 2nd FOC is missing a Troops slot)

My two cents,
Servo

++++EDIT+++

Wow didn't see that the 2nd FOC of WR had 6 squads of Tac Marines instead of just 1... hmm this changes things a bit. That extra 50 marines might make a difference I will remove my vote for the time being and rethink the results of the battle.

sir servo
that second FOC troop category is full
it is six identical 10 man tactical squads with missile lauchers and flamers
that gives me 80 tactical marines
& 40 terminators plus scouts and tanks

OK I have reevaluated the situation and I am still going to go with Gent.

Sorry WR but there are just to many ifs on your part. If the Scouts survive, if you can get the Termies into close combat, if your tanks survive. Gent has to much on the field and still has enough Power Weapons, plasma, and melta to counter balance all your termies.

Gents Soul Drinkers have the Win

My two cents,
Servo

I vote Imperial Fists. The lists are pretty well matched up, but I think Rom has better Heavy Support choices, and lots of termies. Not to mention Lysander and his Command Squad. Good, fluffy battle guys!

Termies are bad news, and Rom has several well rounded Heavy choices. I think Gent has alot of counter but I think the Yellow Guys will prevail.....

Going to have to vote Soul Drinkers on this one.
I did fancy the Imperial Fists' chances with all those Assault Terminators but looking at the battlefield (and considering those scouts have got bugger all chance of surviving long enough to bring the termies safely in) theres only a couple of places Romulas can teleport them in without the real risk of them scattering into impassable terrain. Being in open terrain with no ranged weapons and in front of so many terminator armour busting weapons wont be good for their health.

Plus with 40 Assault Marines Gent can pretty much choose where that horde of 'Death From Above' fights...it''ll be a close fight but I can just see the excommunicated Sons of Dorn carrying the day.

I think this battle is pretty even, but with all the termies and 80 marines... I don't that Gent can win. All those termies landing on the same turn? SCARY

My vote goes to Warmaster Romulus

The thing to remember about all those termies coming in on one turn still means that all those termies will be shot on that turn before they can even get closer to my lines and you do have to admit, I have a decent amount of firepower at medium range and I am sure that, when focusing my fire, I can bring down a terminator squad per turn! Then it is just a matter of killing them before they reach my lines. I will admit that it is a very tough battle, but there is a lot that will have to go well for romulas to make those assault terminators count. In the end though, it will be whose dice will hold out the longest to win the day!

I'm voting for Souldrinkers mainly because the delayed reserves special rule is going to make it harder for those terminators to come into play and make a difference. and using the homer's on the scouts would be great but i believe that the scouts are gonna die before to many terminators will come out. it's even possible for some terminators to not come into the battle at all. both list are great.

i appreciate you voting
(wish it had been for me J/K)
but let me put some holes in your theories on this battle
the my assault squad carries a homer also and my tactic plainly state the reason for this
but let me state that lysander can reroll reserve rolls
this makes it almost impossible for my terminators not to appear
it actually makes it easier for me to choose which turn they would appear
giving me a tactical advantage on the reserve side
the delayed reserves means that my army can close into a lethal range and then zapp 40 angry terminators

Default Re: Gent Vs Romulas

alright warmaster i will admit that i overlooked the homer's on the assault marines, but on another level gent has more assault marines than you do and getting the armies all bogged down in the middle with nothing save a few guns in range to assest is not going to really do you any good. and as for rerolling your reserves your right my prior statement about never arriving is not very plausible but, you still really cant reliabley consider terminator's tell the 4th or 5th turn. i don't find them being that useful that late in the game. there is to many if's with reserve rolls in this match so that's why i will continue leaning to the souldrinkers, even if it's just barely. and by the way thanks for pointing those details out to be i hate it when someone doesn't let me know when i don't see something.
