Default Can I use an Emperor's Champion in a regular Marine army?

Well on the bottem it says "The Emperor's Champion may be included in your Space Marine army as an HQ choice."

IIRC, as of the new standalone ("new") Black Templars codex, no you can't.

I know for sure in the original Codex Armageddon rules you can.

However, you can basically take him in, add five (or 10?) points (whichever makes it 100) and drop the BT universal special rules, and ask your opponent to field him.

Hm really? I thought that somewhere in the Black Templars codex that the tradition had been adopted by other chapters. I thought that other Chapters could take an EC, but now I can't recall!

I just reread the codex. Fluffwise yes, other chapters have them, but rules wise I don't recall it existing.

It's entirely possible this is just GW implying that you can use BT list as other chapters. (i.e. a IF or BT successor that has same fighting style)

Basically you can have ONE for a BT army, no more than one, no other armies, and does not count towards the FC chart.

Only loyalist army I play is Black Templars. I have read the entry many times. While fluffwise, yes, you can take an Emperor's Champion, ruleswise, they did not include provisions to do so. I would say that means, in tournament it's not legal, however in games between you and another player, where house rules are allowed, I think it would be perfectly alright to use the Emperor's Champion, so long as you either gear your army to act like Black Templars (no psykers, optional CCW for troops, LRC instead of LR for HQ/Elite transport, etcetera and so forth) or remove the oaths... Perhaps allow for the oaths if he himself is one of your 2 HQ choices...

Lol I'm afraid I can't mate.
I don't currently posess a copy (i.e. I lost it somewhere in my house)

I also never really used it, but if my memory serves you used to be able to to take the EC elsewhere.

Course, I could be entirely wrong.
(Last time I even seen my Codex:Armageddon was... oh... 3 years ago?)

Um. The current embodiment of the Emperor's Champion is not available to Imperial Fist successors. It is available only to the Black Templars. Black is their armor, to match Sigismund's own black armor when he was sworn, by Rogal Dorn's authority to be the Emperor's personal champion and bodyguard. His failure to save the Emperor from death drove him to take up a crusade against the enemies of Man.

The Emperor's champion is exclusive to the Black Templars as far as the rules go, because it was Sigismund himself who founded the Black Templars, and gave the shards of his black sword to be re-smelted and re-incorporated into a limited supply of black swords which are jealously guarded by the Black Templars. The hilt of his sword was reforged into the sword of the High Marshals which currently is held by High Marshal Helbrecht.

No other chapter has easy access to the Black Sword. While others may field what was once mistaken to be Emperor's Champions, they are now revealed to be company champions, who merely weild a powersword and a combat shield. These champions are still fierce foes to be met on the battlefield, but only the an Initiate drawn from the ranks of the Black Templars may truly wear the mark of Emperor's Champion.

PS: I looked through the Black Templar codex. I didn't catch anything that allows non-Black Templars to field the chump. I also don't believe the current embodiment of Codex Space Marines allows for it either. And Codex Armageddon has been discontinued as a source for Black Templar material.

Chapter approved had the EC as a "you can use it with consent for special characters"
person,But I don't think chapter approved is good for any thing anymore.

You could always stixk him in your army and count him as a Commander with Power Sword and Bolt Pistol, and Artificier Armour.

Its the easiest way to get consent to use the model...

If its the rules your after, i tihnk your stuffed at any official event.

Um, good ones?
They have a great stat line, and some special rules for weapons and combat.

the emp's champ is now "black templars armies only"

as pointed out though, you can get a similar style character in any marine army;

a) a captain w/master-crafted power weapon, bolt pistol, terminator honours, artificer armour & iron halo.
- your basic cheap version. a slightly better fighter, but only at his basic S!

b) a chaplain w/master-crafted power toy, (model his 'crozius' as a regular old sword), terminator honours, artificer armour & iron halo. (aka rosarius)
- the more expensive version, but a much better fighter!

c) librarian w/might of heroes, master-crafted power toy, bolt pistol, termie honours, artificer honours & iron halo.
- no he's not 'really' a psyker! in this case, his 'power' is more like his utter faith and determination! the big rule of thumb here is; 'never use the force weapon's instant kill ability'. the psychic hood is actually usefull for representing the templars 'abhore the witch' vow as the champ's "faith" will nullify enemy psychic powers!

cheers!
