Blog Entries: 2 |  Custom Chapters So i'm thinking to self that i want to start a custom Space Marine Chapter. my question is whether or not i can just make it up or if i have to follow some formula? can i use any SM codex or just the standard one?

 | right. if you want to completely make one up use the traits system in the back of 4th ed SM codex. if you're going to make a successor chapter to BA, DA, or BT, or even SW, then i think you might want to use their codices instead, and perhaps change the color scheme to differientate your chapter from the parent chapter[s] :] good luck ! and don't worry about it being a noob question. just ask away !

| Oh! I´m in the same... i want to make a succesor chapter form Black Templars; but where i can find those differences? i don´t have the space marine codex, do they appear there?

| hmm. okay well for you luis you could probably go one of two ways: the first way would be to buy the black templars codex, use the rules and models from the templar line, and simply change/make up your own storyline, characters, and color scheme. then you could call it a BT successor chapter and you would certainly have the background to support the chapter. the second way is to use the space marines codex, choose some traits that are fitting for black templars from the back of the book [there is a custom chapter building system in the back], and use a captain or something to represent your emperor's champion. granted, this method won't allow you to have neophytes and initiates in the same squad, so it's not as fitting for the background, but it would work. :] good luck !

| Oh thanks you a lot friend! I´m thinking to do what you say first But i want to play in black templar style... these stand alone armies could not be improved with some new virtues and flaws ¿? Thanks for the help

| no problem ! glad to help.. if you want to play an army that is more like BT, then i would definitely suggest going with the first suggestion i had, using the black templars codex and maybe changing the colors you use or something to show that they are a successor chapter. i don't think there is any way to make a normal space marine army with the standard space marine codex that would be sufficiently close enough to black templars though unfortunately. does that answer your question ? :] good luck !

| There is no such thing as a noob question only noob answers. As has been said before there are 2 ways. 1. You just use the normal rules for SW,BA or whatever and jsut change the colour. 2. Or for more of a personilised chapter you created go with the traits its in the Space Marine codex near the back.

| Thanks brother A friend of mine suggested me to play blood angels, but i want a purple chapter with black templar rules... but i wanna know if i can change some rules... for example change black templars rule about jump pack as core troops... how i can place a deragement?

| i have collected 3 different space marine chapters all were succesors. one time for blood angels and twice for space wolves. but i have decided to just create a normal templar army now. allthough i can say it is damn fun to use the trait system, that was one of teh ebst idears the guys at games workshop have ever had. it realy allows u to customise ur army |

| I use the Black Templar Codex to represent my Chapter, the Royal Knights, going on a crusade. They leave their normal traits I use from Codex: SM behind and fight as a BT army.
