Fighting Dark eldar - 40K Terra

Hey

i rarely play the dark eldar and i was wonderin if i could get some pointers for what an army list should probably look like in a 2000 pts game. thanks

well i haven't got a set list for you ultramar, but i think a fairly static, cover-protected shooting army would be your best bet. DE armor saves are crap, and their tank armor is just as crap. the speed they've got will outmatch our poor, heavy infantry and so i think it's a good idea to stay put and pump out the bolters as quickly as possible, throw in some pie plates and see what happens. the best experience, of course, is simply to try it :]

those dark lances will cut a land raider in half without even blinking
go infantry heavy
lots of heavy bolters
and pray the archon fails his invulnarable 2+ save

i cant remember what its called
some thing like shadow field or something (its been a while)
but it gives the Dark Archon a 2+ inv save
if he fails it one its gone for good

its not so bad if the dice gods smile on you at least once
ive seen one take about 50 saves and never fail
and ive seen an other one fail its 1st save vs a pwr fist and turn to dust
remember to sacrafice a cheeseburger to the dice gods before the game

Should i go with 2 predators? 2 Vindicators? or 1 Vindicator and 1 predator?

If you're fighting a GOOD DE player then...expect to be hurt....bad.

If you're fighting an ok or beginner DE player then you'll have no problem tearing him up.

No use in taking anything heavier the plasma against DE, i.e. no meltas, lascannons or anything. If you take tanks...don't expect them to live against Dark Lances. I'd go for Predator destructors with autocannons and HB's.

Theres one of two ways he will probably play

1) Lots of Raiders and bikes. FAST FAST FAST army that'll run circles around you but will also have less men to shot you dead with.

2) Webway portal. Just as mobile since he can basically deep strike his whole army if he puts a webway gate some where. Expect 2-3 raiders with webway portals and tons of warriors and wynchs in reserve to come through the portal. Set up good fields of fire where ever he drops a portal.

WYNCHS = close combat massacre. Run far away and shoot them.

No vindicators.

Whirlwind could be useful.

Its ok. Flexable and such. Might loss Frags and go with plasma guns instead of flame. But thats just my preference. I don't think you'll be assauting him in cover much since he'll be launching the attacks most likely. You want to shoot a lot!

No. Lascannons are worthless against DE. Heavy bolters have a much better chance of hitting and with more shots they can penitrate just as often as a Las...AND THEY CAN KILL INFANTRY!

I REALLY think that two Predators with side sponson Heavy bolters and turret autocannons would do better if you have any tanks at all! I'd go with less tank power and more man power!

Meltabombs? No! Their only vehicles are skimmers!! If anything give the squad a plasma pistol or something. Flamers would also be nice...either one

Loose both of these and expand on the Termie squad? Give the a cyclone missile launcher...and more bodies!!!

Scouts = Cheaper marines. Give 'em heavy bolters and, well, cheap front line. Scouts an infiltrate will help 'im get some cover. COVER. Even giving them snipers is good. Snipers and heavy bolter. Hell might as well. Better to have a squad pinned then coming at you.

Ok, so now i got a list, then what do you think my tactics should be? i no shoot, but how should i work literally everything?

Avoid combat with wynchs. (You'll know them. Look like gladiators and have lots of combat weapons.) Shoot them to hell, DO NOT let them get into hand to hand with you.

DE HQ choices can be monstrous but they also cost lots of points. Incubii are deadly in combat and have great (+3) saves. Try and blow the transport if at all possible.

Standard warrios are not anything to be afraid of in close combat but you won't want to let them bog you down and keep you still for the combat monsters to come in and finish you.

DE have lots of...odd wargear. It is perfectly within the rules to ask to read his codex before playing and maybe ask him what some of his troops are. Knowledge is power.

Er...I hope I'm not steering you wrong...

What do you know of this guy? Is he good?

If he is good you might be swept up fast.

DE is a fickle army to play...they will either destroy you within an insanely short amount of time or loose.

P.S. You'd better post a battle report beyond "I lost..." or "I won!!!"

I Just wana give you guys some inout on what happened in the game. It turned out to be a 4 way carnage game with me, A ork player, and Necron and obviously Dark Eldar, i Finished in second behind the Necrons in first me in second DE in 3rd and Ork in last So it went well
