|  Goodbye Salamanders Ever since Salamanders were relegated to a tertiary chapter again with the 4th edition Space Marine book I've been slowly losing the love for them. With every basic Space Marine chapter able to take the Salamander power and the Chapter Traits being so cookie-cutter I just don't feel the flavor anymore. Cleanse and Purify isn't about taking an extra flamer, and none of the fun discounts or wargear options of the old list. We take a Major Disadvantage in Eye to Eye so that we can get an advantage in Never Despair that is the same as the disadvantage Trait. On top of it all as they have fleshed out the Horus Heresy fluff they have given the Salamanders and Vulkan the role of cowards, deserting Ferrus Manus in the Istvaan massacre. Also we have been totally shafted so far in the Horus Heresy series with barely one mention in 5 books. So the love is gone. I learned a lot about how to play a good marine army and got good at a lot of the units and wargear that people tend to not use. Multi-meltas, Thunderhammers and flamers for example. I'm in love now with Iron Snakes. Brothers of the Snake is a great book. Shows a very cool homeworld and culture. Goodbye to the color green.

| Lieutenant  | Re: Goodbye Salamanders I think that if they re-do them a little bit they`ll be quite competitive, seeing how 40k seems to be more and more about short range/meelee. Last chaos dex took out one of the most powerfull static armies in the game while the new ork dex added a new level to meelee swarms  You can realistically run 60+ biker orks in a 2k game now not to mention the insane ammount of normal orks you could fit in there.Template weapons are the only thing stoping them, that and lots and lots of attacks

Blog Entries: 8  | Re: Goodbye Salamanders in the HH books they showed a tactical decision in resting there troops and letting others fight but then got raped by second wave, if you ask me Vulcan made the right decision IF they hadnt been betrayed by the second wave otherwise they were good. Tabletop wise, well i really liked them in the armageddon book then they got shafted

Blog Entries: 1 | Re: Goodbye Salamanders Don't blame them too much for Istvaan...Ferrus saw that there was no way out and, instead of dieing like a dog, choose to lead a brutal assault right into Horus's HQ...Basically Ferrus went for a suicidal stab at the heretic's throat. He figured that he was so beast that if he and his best broke through to Horus he'd slay him and at least he'd die having accomplished something. But instead he and nearly all the terminators and veterans of his legion slaughtered their way through to...something. No one really knows what happened to Ferrus...his body wasn't found. Some stories say he died in the melee and his head was presented to Fulgrim but thats never been proven...some say the Iron Hands got his body and escaped...Vulkan just didn't support his all or nothing assault.

But I do feel bad that not only the Salamanders, but the Raven Guard, White Scars, Iron Hands, and believe it or not Imperial Fists dont get enough attention b/c they were in fact of the original legions. I mean Black Templars and other second founding chapters get more press than the original legions?? BvL

The first founding legions should get a fricken codex! If not one for each then one to cover the remaining loyalists! Come on GW! Those orginal Legions that aren't really different from the standard marine chapters but have just a few traits! Instead of bastardizing them with the damn marine traits in the codex...at least...

| Re: Goodbye Salamanders Sadly like everything else, it's all about making money. Not trying to turn this into a political style thread, but more people buy ultramarines stuff over salamanders, as the same Black Templar players over Imperial Fist. It's a sad state of affairs, but maybe they will release codexes like the armageddon booklet which helps you refine your armies so they are true to their nature. We can hope anyway!

| Re: Goodbye Salamanders im sorry but the black templars got a codex cause they were so out there in their ways and doctrin. think does any other chapter mentioned, except the white scars, have a very unique game play? ill list it off imperial fists- seige experts= gun line raven wing- hit and run/ infiltrating= assault marines EVERYWHERE iron hands- gunline and tech= lots o' tech marines and big guns salamanders- firery shoot em assaulty bastards= termies and flamers EVERYWHERE most of these do not have overwhelming traits that are off color from vanilla marines, black templars do not have a lot of shyte, their dogma and doctrin are completely different from all the other chapters. no librarians, no scout squads, no devistators, ccw EVERYWHERE, completely different playing style. the marine codex is set up so you can build the chapters your talkin about, hell the chapters are listed in the trait system so you can play those chapters truly. im not tryin to be an ass about it but ive had this conversation with many other GW employees and they say the same damned thing. the reason the wolves , blood and dark angles have there own codexs cause of their unique playing styles and organizations. im not saying the others are not unique its just these few are alittle ****her off the deep end then most if you get my drift (i mean they are fraggin nuts!!)
