ahha i think they're alright. while they are very simple to build AND look good, i have two complaints: the weapons are all attached, and if you turn the torso a certain number of degrees to a certain direction, it no longer fits onto the legs, because the pistol holster gets in the way :[

haha. one other thing: the weird hole in the carapace armor is a bit awkward. but more importantly, they DO look cool :] haha

well yeah that is my one complaint. everything has to fit on there the right way with the little dimples in the arms. however i did cut the blade and handle off of one hand and reverted it and its pretty cool now. the scout has his hand by his belt and it looks like he is about to draw it or something.

ill post pics when i get a chance

I got some scouts the other day to. They don't seem very detailed compaired to other minis.

It might just be my set.

theyre great models, save their heads. i ill never forgive the otherwise great Brian Nelson for sullying the world with those faces, though the rest of them (especially the snbipers) are great!

rarely have truer words been spoken. space marines, even scouts, should never look constipated!

i find the arms a bit doggy though... sadly it seems that there's very little posability in the arms due to that little tab they all connect into on the torso.
now, cutting it off of corse leads to gaps which means it's time for the green stuff! still, i find it rather fustrating to pull out the green stuff for only a little patch job!>.<

and yes, the faces are terrible! i think for my bearers 'acolytes', (counts as templar neophytes), i'll just slap on some trimed-up chaos warrior helmets instead! then they'll not only look menacing, but they won't be asked constantly why they haven't kept up a high fibre diet! (bad joke, but i couldn't resist!)

cheers!

There is a great arcticle from Black Gobbo on personalising your Scouts (it deals with Black Templars but it can be applied to any Chapter). Its really good.

Check it out Personalising Space Marine Scouts

the 'customising your neophytes' article is basically were i "borrowed" the idea about using chaos warrior helmets!

the cadian sergeant head also fits fairly well onto the scout bodies too... handy if you know someone who's got a cadian modeled army as you get 1 of those heads/sprue!
the catachan heads can also work in a pinch... (just file off the silly bandanas.)

cheers!

I did with some Iron Warriors and was looking for more articles about that kinda thing when I found it-Black Gobbo is fantastic, wish we had our own version (that was any good)

Its good to personalise your scouts as you do it with the rest of your army so why have them looking like everyone elses-also its a good way to show off your Marines Heritage with a link to there home world...styles of dress, head gear, tattoos and totems-stuff that normal Marines not have/display

With a couple of shading tricks the scout heads don't look as bad. It's pretty simple, you just have to shade everything blow the cheek bone. This is to make that ugly jaw disappear a little. I work primarily with the old scouts myself though.

I actually prefer the old pewter scouts. Good thing I have in excess of 50 of them. The shotgun-armed scouts are particularly cool looking. Too bad shotguns are kind of weak.

if it werent for the nurgly heads id love the current plastic scouts, though as they are theyre ok.

i still havent found asuitable alternative for the heads. normal marine ones are too big and old looking! hehe

but yeah, theyre great models oozing character, especially the sniper ones.

theres some blood raven covnersions made by an eavy metak artists of bp and cc scouts using the cloaks from the sniper sprue that look brilliant!

though i still like the old 2nd edition/rogue trader idea of having the sarge in power armour minus shoulder pads. i think its cool. but im sure thats just me

No, it's no actually. I plan on doing my scout sarges like that, with catachan arms and heads, and GS some simple chainmail or some such armor to tie in the roman feel. I always loved that idea!

actually, having had a closer look at the plastic scout heads it seems that its only the mouth area that lets the face down. the bottom lip is MIA and it looks like the surrounding skin is being sucked into they're mouth find a way to cover the bottom half of the face (rebreather/hair/dust veil/etc) and it ain't so bad.

I think the scouts are okay, but the faces need masks or something.

Also, has anyone else noticed that scouts have absolutely massive "packages", if you catch my drift?

hahaha my brother pointed that out to me. no, that was the FIRST thing my brother said to me when he saw my plastic scouts.

i wasn't a big fan of the scout heads either. i've used the IG sergeant head once, pretty successfully [minimal conversion needed] and, haha i've also used tau helmets that fit right on there..though i have no idea how i'm going to justify that.
