Default Rhinos

I can ,t seem to use them effectively. What is the best way to delver the troops inside the Rhino since they cant charge when they disembark? I am trying to use two Rhinos to deliver Veteran SM squads into CC. When I drop the guys near a shooty squad they get blasted that next turn adn when i drop them off near a CC squad I get charged. Please help.

Smoke launchers, and deploy the squad behind the rino with the rhino between them and the shooty squad. For CC countering... Not much you can do but try and avoid them, or have a razorback or landspeeder or bikes escorting the rhino to tie up squads/shoot them down.

I use my rhino's as a baracade move,make them go around.

Plus, if the unit does not have LOS at the start of the turn, they apparently can't assault. so that would help on the CC units I bet...

- use terrain to your advantage. for example, if there's a building within 12" of the unit you want to assault, simply drive your rhino up & hide at the building's corner. next turn, deploy out 2", move 6" & charge 6" - there you go, a 14" assault range!

- drive up, pop smoke & deploy behind the rhino as the others have pointed out. on the plus side, if you rhino is destroyed, it'll become a wreck and provide you with some nifty size 3 area terrain, effectively blocking line of sight to your veterans!

- use a bigger vehicle to escort/act as a distraction. for example, have you rhino drive up behind say, a vinidcator! i don't know too many players who would want to go after a lowly rhino instead of that S10 ap2 template of doom!

I see... I wasn't quite reading it all right! I was preparing for work and the sequence didn't sync up right in my head.. Not a bad idea.

eldar are quite gross at this tactic actually! it's not much fun being on the recieving end of it...

as always, the key to pulling this off is to always take the extra armour/spirit stones upgrade - that way you can't be stunned, only shaken so you'll always be able to deploy.

I never take a rhino w/ out extra armor and smoke launchers. Or any vehicle for that matter. Never.

well, soon no marine player will go without because it'll be pretty much 'basic' upgrades! well, aside from the extra armour, but you'll get the smokes with the tank.

Soon? The SM codex was just released last year...

They better not re-release it "soon."

i like to screen them with bikes/attack bikes
it kind of gets the opponents mind off of the assault crazy squads held within
or i give them a tempting pred of dread to fire at
the main idea is misdirection like an illusionist
i get them thinking OVER HERE OVER HERE while the rhinos unload power weapon death in their ranks

believe me, i KNOW haha. eldar are the thing to watch out for..their storm of blades thingy can wipe out squads of marines at a time [honestly, 40 something shots in one turn, then re-embark, move around for a turn in a skimmer, then pop out and do it again...BROKEN.]

haha anyhow, the thing with rhinos i think is always armor, always smokes. nothing else can preserve it, so those are the necessities. keep them hidden behind cover whenever you can, don't trust them to succeed that often because their armor is literally crap.

haha ironic, isn't it ? the emperor's finest travel in the downright crappiest tank in the game...haha

Since a LR is a bullet magnet anyway, I always lead the charge with it, and have Rhinos following behind. Pop smoke with the LR, any Rhinos directly behind can save theirs. The Rhino isn't very heavily armoured, but it's better than covering open ground 6" at a time.

So would it be best to have a Landraider and two rhinos then?

Or would it be betterto just drop the transports, take inflitrate adn more men?

I myself don't like the infiltrate rule. The only squad I infiltrate is my Chosen, and then I make sure not to put them too far away from the main force. An isolated unit is usally a dead unit. As I've said, the LR attracts a lot of attention, but it's tough as nails.

the extra armour and smoke launcher method works good. but if you have just a few plasma or better shooters then your rhino is dead. if you use the LR then you could hide your rhino behind it to help keep anybody shooting from half the board. but a 250pt. moving terrain piece is expensive. I just conceal my rhino in the terrain the best i can so if i don't get the first turn I don't have to worry about them getting shot before they move. On my first turn I just plow on forward and shoot the smoke. most of the time with 3-4 rhino's they survive. I also like to give my opponents some other targets to shoot. maybe a dreadnought, predator, hell anything that your opponent is going to take as more of a threat.

Thats what I am thinking right now. I plan on rushing with the marines in the rhinos and the dreanought, moving the big plasma squad into range and standing and shotting with the other tac squads.
